DESCRIPTION:Join us on October 5th\, from 6-9 pm\, for the fil screening of “Walled Citizen” by Sameer Qumsiyeh\n\n\nAs a part of the La La Lil Jidar: 20 Years Behind the Apartheid Wall programming\, InLiquid invites you to join us on Thursday\, October 5th\, in the InLiquid Gallery for a screening of Walled Citizen\, directed and produced by Palestinian filmmaker Sameer Qumsiyeh. \nWalled Citizen documents Sameer Qumsiyeh as he attempts to explore the planet as a backpacker defying the restrictions of movement imposed on him as a holder of one of the world’s weakest ranking passports. Over the period of 3 years\, Sameer Qumsiyeh travels with his personal camera from Palestine to Europe to the Canary Islands and Ecuador (featuring The Amazon) documenting his encounters with other freedom seekers\, wanderers\, refugees\, immigrants\, indigenous communities and nomads all of whom are facing the physical and non-physical walls that are erected between people in our modern time. \n \nThe InLiquid Gallery is located within the Crane Arts Building which is wheelchair accessible. There is limited accessible parking at the front of the building\, and a ramp leading into the main entrance. The main building door is not automated. Two all-gender bathrooms with multiple stalls are available for use — one with urinals\, one without\, and both with 1–2 wheelchair-accessible stall(s).

From 1989-1997\, she served on the faculty of Meredith College in Raleigh\, North Carolina. Julia received a BA in Religion from Wake Forest University in 1981\, a MDiv from Duke Divinity School in 1984\, and a PhD in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Studies from Duke University in 1988\, where her areas of study included the history and archaeology of the Old Testament as well as Judaism and literary criticism. Her academic specialties include the prophetic literature of the Hebrew Bible (especially the Minor Prophets); the intersection of gender studies and biblical studies; theological\, feminist\, and ideological approaches to prophetic books; ethical issues in biblical interpretation; the theology of the Hebrew Bible; violence; and metaphor. Her publications include Micah (Wisdom Commentary Series. Liturgical Press\, 2015); Nahum (Sheffield Academic Press\, 2001); Nahum through Malachi (Abingdon Old Testament Commentary series\, 2004); and Challenging Prophetic Metaphor (Westminster John Knox\, 2008). She edited the Oxford Handbook of the Minor Prophets (2020) and the Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible and Gender Studies (2014). With Chris Franke\, she co-edited Aesthetics of Violence in the Prophets (T & T Clark\, 2010). Publications in progress include a volume on the Prophets for Westminster John Knox Press; a commentary on Second Isaiah for the New Interpretation Commentary series; and the sixth edition of the New Oxford Annotated Bible for which she is an Associate Editor. DESCRIPTION:FRIEDAcommunity is proud to announce Manuel Hernandez first solo show and first exhibition in Philadelphia. \nThe artist was born in Iztapalapa\, Mexico City\, before migrating as a child to the USA.  Hernandez paints large-scale works that integrate Aztec mythology\, indigenous traditions\, and symbolism\, with contemporary life.  The resulting paintings are shaped like hide paintings and scaled the size of fresco murals\, anchoring his work in Native American graphic art traditions\, and breaking away from European practices.   \n  \n100% of the sale proceeds of any artwork during the exhibition go to the artist. In return\, we have asked that selected artists schedule time to engage with our community through a  workshop\, a demonstration\, or a discussion. \nFRIEDAcommunity – A closer look: Manuel Hernandez\nOctober 6 – November 19\nTuesday – Sunday: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm\nFRIEDA 320 Walnut Street \n

DESCRIPTION:This FREE two-hour Learn to Ride class teaches participants how to ride a bicycle.  This class is perfect for those who have never ridden a bike or who may need a refresher. \nStaff and volunteers will teach participants how to: \n·        Balance \n·        Pedaling techniques \n·        Starting and stopping \n·        Steering and shifting gears \nYou can bring your own bike and helmet or rent a bike and helmet for free at the class.  This class is for individuals ages 16 and up.
