SUMMARY:Priority Hoarding: A Retrospectacle
DESCRIPTION:“Where our baggage is yours!” \nWelcome to the Bearded Ladies’ Hairport\, an interactive installation & performance series built on 16-years of accumulated baggage from a queer cabaret company devoted to art\, care\, mess\, and community. While you’re waiting for a flight that may never take off\, unpack your baggage and rifle through some of ours. You may recognize something as your own\, or find something you never knew you were carrying. \nMade for anyone who has ever lost a bag\, gotten stuck\, or missed a (metaphoric) flight\, this trans(formational) installation asks: how do you know it’s time to move on when you don’t know where you’re going? \nProduced by The Bearded Ladies Cabaret\nPart of FringeArt’s 2026 Festival & Collective Futures \nInstallation on view September 10-December 20\, 2026\nat The Hairport | 444 N 3rd Street\, Philadelphia PA 19123 \nInstallation hours:\nWednesday\, Thursday & Friday 4-9PM | Last timed entry at 8:15PM\nSaturday & Sunday 11AM-3PM| Last timed entry at 2:15PM \nLive events at The Hairport | Saturdays at 8PM \nThe Hairport is an interactive\, immersive installation filled with costumes\, cardboard props\, and other ephemera from the Bearded Ladies Cabaret’s 16-year performance history. Visitors will make their way through a sprawling multi-room space made to look like a fantastical\, metaphorical “airport”. Visitors will be invited to interact with components of the installation and may encounter docents in guiding roles. The experience will culminate in a “lounge” space full of “Bearded baggage” which will also serve as the performance site for the Now Hoarding: In-Flight Entertainment live event series. \nIt will take visitors approximately 60-75 minutes to view the entirety of the Priority Hoarding installation. Groups of 6 will enter the installation\, at 15-minute timed entry intervals. An opportunity to ride a Surrey bike is offered but not required.

SUMMARY:Uncle Bobbie's X Earl Hopkins & Jeremy McCool: "Raps of Resistance"
DESCRIPTION:Earl Hopkins and Jeremy McCool come through for an incredible conversatoin about hip-hop and the impact it has on our movements.\n\n\nThe soundtrack for an entire movement… \nFrom Chuck D to 2Pac to Common to Kendrick – politics and rap music has had a long history. \nJoin us as we welcome authors\, Earl Hopkins and Jeremy McCool to discuss their book\, Raps of Resistance: How Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole Reignited a Hip-Hop Tradition. They will talk about how two of the greatest voices of this current generation use their gifts to connect with and inspire people to make change. \nBook signing will follow the discussion and Q&A. \nAll attendees can enjoy a 15% off in-store discount on your entire order during the event. \nDon’t miss this! \n****** \nAbout the Book: \nKendrick Lamar and J. Cole blazed paths that salvaged socially conscious rap at a pivotal time in history.Conscious rap\, a subgenre of hip-hop music that engages in dialogue about social and political issues and often challenges systems of oppression\, ascended with pioneers like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five\, Public Enemy\, Ice Cube\, A Tribe Called Quest\, and other acts at the helm. But in recent decades\, it lost much of its favor in pop culture and mainstream hip-hop. \nJeremy C. McCool and Earl Hopkins explore the evolution of the subgenre and chronicle the rise of Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole. The two rappers are synonymous with chart-topping hits and platinum-selling albums\, but their confessional poetry and soul-stirring lyrics establish them as the two biggest names in conscious rap within the new millennia. \nWhile many new artists have abandoned the subgenre in exchange for music trends linked to instantaneous success and acclaim\, Cole and Lamar have preserved the lyrical prowess and revolutionary spirit of their hip-hop forefathers. They tackle issues such as drug addiction\, poverty\, systemic racism\, and domestic violence while still appealing to mainstream audiences. McCool and Hopkins provide a fascinating look into Lamar and Cole’s ascension: their humble upbringings\, their past personal and musical challenges\, and their eventual rise to becoming the two most prolific rap artists of their time. \nAbout the Authors: \nEarl Hopkins is an award-winning features reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer\, covering arts\, entertainment\, and culture throughout the region. His work has appeared in Billboard\, Complex\, GRAMMY.com\, MTV News\, SPIN\, Stereogum\, UPROXX\, and other publications. Earl also co-authored Raps of Resistance: How Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole Reignited a Hip-Hop Tradition\, and is a recent fellow of the National Critics Institute. \nDr. Jeremy C. McCool is a media scholar\, author\, and Associate Professor of Digital and Global Media at West Chester University. His research examines the intersections of hip-hop\, media\, technology\, education\, and social change\, with a particular focus on socially conscious hip-hop\, digital storytelling\, emerging media\, and how marginalized communities use media and popular culture as tools for resistance\, learning\, and empowerment. He is co-author of Raps of Resistance: How Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole Reignited a Hip-Hop Tradition. Dr. McCool is also co-founder of the Media Ed-Tech Institute\, where he translates his scholarship into innovative media\, technology\, and educational initiatives that support youth\, educators\, and communities. \n… \nDoors open at 6:30pm. \nAll tickets are non-refundable. \nStreet parking available. \nChildren older than 5-years old need a ticket for entry.

This event is open to all new and seasoned growers\, including vegetable\, fruit\, and flower farmers and beekeepers in the Northeast Philadelphia region and surrounding areas. \nAbout the host/speaker(s) \nSince 2018\, Heroic Garden has been connecting Veterans and their families to the healing power of plants and nature—creating pathways for wellness\, purpose\, and community. Our work is rooted in the understanding that time spent outdoors\, working with plants\, can support emotional well-being while creating space for connection and shared experience. \nThe Sunflower Farm at Pennypack has expanded this impact by opening our model to the broader community. What began as Veteran-centered programming now brings Veterans\, civilians\, families\, and volunteers together in a shared\, welcoming environment. This intentional integration creates opportunities for authentic connection\, helping to bridge gaps that often exist between military and civilian life. \nAccessibility\n \n\n\n\nAttendees can expect to walk on flat\, paved\, and unpaved terrain.\n\n\n\n\nAttendees will be in direct sun for a portion of the event.\n\n\n\n\nThere will be seating for a portion of the event.\n\n\n\n\nPlease reach out to events@pasafarming.org in advance to discuss how else we can accommodate you.\n\nNotes \n\nLight refreshments are included. \nThere will be an opportunity for a self-guided farm tour. Please dress in comfortable\, weather-appropriate farm clothes that allow you to move freely.\nBring a notebook and pen\, reusable water bottle and/or mug\, sun protection\, rain gear\, and footwear.\nCapacity: This event is limited to 30 registrants.\nCOVID-19: Please review our safety protocols for in-person events.\nQuestions? Check out our in-person event FAQs. If you still have a question\, contact events@pasafarming.org.

SUMMARY:Meditation Mondays
DESCRIPTION:You are welcome here. We sit not to flee the world\, but to return to it softer\, sharper\, more present—together in the warmth of community.\n\n\nWith over twenty-five years of shared practice\, Mamalaika Hart and Noelle Warford invite you to gather in stillness at One Art Community Center in West Philly. \nEach week\, our community sits becomes a gentle return—to posture\, to silence\, to the rhythm of breath. Together\, we practice arriving in our bodies and the present moment\, meeting whatever arises with curiosity\, compassion\, and care. \nThis is an invitation to build sangha—a circle of practice where we show up for ourselves and for one another\, week after week. For those seeking a commitment to quiet the mind and sit with all that is present\, this is your place. \nWe sit together to sharpen our collective focus—to be fully here\, awake and embodied\, in a time that asks everything of us. \nBring a cushion if you like. No experience or equipment needed. Donations are welcome and help support this community space and the equipment provided.
