SUMMARY:Baby Gear Group's Pop-Up Swaptacular
DESCRIPTION:Reduce\, reuse\, upcycle at Baby Gear Group’s Pop-Up Swaptacular! Out with the old\, in with the new baby clothes sizes Premie/Newborn-5T\, as well as maternity clothing/gear\, toys\, books\, and small baby gear items – no strollers\, pack-n-plays\, high chairs\, etc\, please. All clothing should be gently used to new\, and other items in working/sanitary condition. \nWe operate the swap on an honor system\, asking that families take roughly the amount of items that they brought with them. An exception to this is expecting families! Expecting families are invited to take as-needed\, especially as newborn items/clothing are so popular to pass along. \nAll leftover items are donated locally or recycled for future swaps.

The hike will involve some light incline\, a bathroom break at the midpoint and a smoother\, low impact walk back with a steep but brief incline to bring us back to our starting point. Along the hike we will collect artifacts to add to our Fall collages which will be entered into a compettion with prizes. The overall hike will take approx. 1hr to complete. More trail info below: \nOrange Trail: Average Grade: 11% Single track\, natural surface (dirt and rock) trail that runs along the east side of the park. Terrain is varied\, and sections of the trail are rugged and involve some incline. \nForbidden Drive: Average Grade: 3% A wide\, flat\, multi-use gravel path that parallels the Wissahickon Creek for the entire length of the park \nAt the end of our hike some light snacks will be provided! \nYou will be sent an email with the specifics of the meet-up location\, parking suggestions\, what to wear/bring and a waiver you will need to complete the day before the event so check your email for updates. \n\n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING: \nAfter registering\, please look for a waiver to complete in your email (from Community Initiatives\, not Latino Outdoors) and another email with more instructions on preparing for the event. You will receive both of these emails during the week before the event. \nIf you cannot attend\, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing juliepasion@latinooutdoors.org \nPlease provide the age of every participant when registering and register each person individually with their names and age. This is required. \nAbout LO’s COVID-19 Guidelines \nAfter careful consideration and consultation with LO leaders about the resumption of in-person outings\, we have implemented the following measures to allow us to safely gather in person while minimizing the risk of community spread: \nNew policies and procedures \n1. All attendees must maintain physical distancing. \n2. Anyone who feels sick or has been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should stay home. In the case that someone begins displaying symptoms during an outing\, they will be escorted back to their vehicle to go home and rest or separated from others until they can go home. \nAs the pandemic evolves\, so will our approach to keeping you safe. We thank you for your patience and flexibility as we manage this\, and invite you to check in with us if you have any questions. \nWhat you can expect from LO \nTo ensure the number of people present at in-person gatherings does not go beyond what is considered safe by local health guidelines \nTo be given accurate and truthful information about LO outings in the context of COVID-19 \nAdherence to county level public health department guidelines \nWhat LO expects from participants \nWe take safety at our community outings very seriously. We ask participants to self-certify that they do not have symptoms\, have not been diagnosed with or had direct contact with a known or suspected COVID-19 case in the past 14 days\, and will comply with LO’s safety policies and procedures. Together\, we can ensure safe\, positive\, and meaningful experiences in nature.

SUMMARY:Walk Around Philadelphia GROUP B – Saturday September 20th walk from Overbrook
DESCRIPTION:About this segment:\nOne of the challenges of this segment involves navigating how to cross the Schuylkill River (the border itself is at the City Ave bridge). \nIn order to prepare for the choices involved with this crossing\, it might be helpful to take a good look at this area both on Google Maps (in both terrain and satellite views) and at The Circuit Trails map for both current and future trails in development. \nThis segment is estimated to take roughly 9.5 miles and 5 hours. SUMMARY:A PET RISO STUDIO TOUR AT THE BOK
DESCRIPTION:Join DVAA on a field trip to the Bok and see our current exhibiting artists at work.\n\n\nWe’re taking a fun galavant over to the Bok building! \nMeet us at 1901 S 9th St\, #1N on Saturday\, September 20th for an exciting chance to see our exhibiting artists Pet Riso in their Studio. Grab a coffee from Two Persons Coffee and see our “Friend of a Friend of a Friend” artists at work. \nIt’s sure to be a good time! \n \nAbout the Exhibition \nWhat do you visualize when you imagine an artist making their work? The cliché we often see in media is an artist working alone in their studio\, struggling over an easel. But art is rarely made in isolation. Collaboration is a defining characteristic of the Philadelphia cultural ecosystem\, and one that’s especially defined within the Printmaking community. Printmaking\, by nature\, invites shared space\, shared tools\, and shared knowledge. Friend of a Friend of a Friend explores the friendship between Ben Kraemer and Claire Cooke\, est. 2017 at Tyler School of Art\, and how their connection\, through their joint practice at Pet Riso Studio and beyond\, reflects a broader culture of interdependence. Here\, friendship isn’t just a social bond\, it’s a defining characteristic of creating form. \n \nAbout the Artists \nBen Kraemer is an artist and printmaker living and working in Philadelphia. His artistic practice has largely focused on the creation of artists’ books\, zines\, and other printed matter. His body of work investigates the role of memory in the formation of identity and has drawn inspiration and context from his multi-racial background. This has culminated in drawings\, prints and books containing family photographs\, imagery from film and television\, and appropriated cultural icons. \nHe holds a BFA in Printmaking from the Tyler School of Art and since 2022 has been running the collaborative printshop Pet Riso Studio with Claire Cooke. \nClaire Cooke works primarily through photographic printmaking processes\, with her most recent focus being risography. With degrees in both Printmaking and Art History\, Claire references the historical aspect of printmaking\, i.e. mass-production\, merchandising\, and commercial engagement\, and turns it around on itself by creating absurd\, humorous\, and satirical printed matter. Claire sources her imagery from content posted on social media platforms\, stock photos\, and even photos living in her own camera roll\, and gives them a life outside of the digital landscape. This gives us a chance to appreciate the technicality of the mediums she works in and her ability to create visually-interesting pieces\, while also enjoying the absurdity of the pieces themselves. It allows us to contemplate the consumption of mass-media without feeling overwhelmed by it all\, instead giving us a silly reminder that we can take something seen as superficial and make it something to behold!
