SUMMARY:The Historical Society of Pennsylvania Presents: Black Music as History with Dyana Williams
DESCRIPTION:Join legendary radio host\, journalist\, and cultural advocate Dyana Williams for a conversation on the power of Black music as a vessel for history\, memory\, and identity. As a cofounder of Black Music Month and a tireless champion for artists’ rights and cultural preservation\, Williams brings a unique perspective to the intersection of music and activism. She will trace the origins of Black Music Month\, highlight the role of music in preserving African American stories across generations\, and reflect on the responsibility and urgency of archiving these cultural expressions. All ticket reservations will include a Zoom link\, but only onsite tickets will be honored at the door. \nOnsite tickets include admission to the talk and the exhibit Voices of the Community: Local Black Preservation. SUMMARY:3rd Biennial Exhibition: THE PEACE OF WILD THINGS
DESCRIPTION:Artessa Alliance is excited to announce its 3rd Biennial Exhibition\, “THE PEACE OF WILD THINGS”\, at the renowned Cheltenham Center for the Arts\, September 15 – October 10\, 2025. An Opening Reception will be held on Thursday\, September 18\, 2025\, 6-8pm. \nInspired by Wendell Berry’s poem of the same name\, “The Peace of Wild Things” explores the intersection of nature\, tranquility\, and the human spirit. The exhibition showcases a diverse and vibrant collection of works by members of Artessa Alliance\, a collaborative of Philadelphia women artists. \nHighlights of the exhibition include a meditative installation focused on resilience and transformation\, as well as works inspired by the captivating forms of human life and the natural world—encompassing animals\, plants\, and non-living elements of ecosystems and the environment —that encourage viewers to take a closer look at the world around them. Discover introspective and innovative approaches to photography\, mixed and emerging media\, alongside traditional works that enhance the appeal of this diverse exhibition. Each piece invites viewers to reflect on the restorative power of both explicit and imagined wild places\, as well as the sense of calm they offer amid life’s chaos. \nThe Opening Reception is free and open to the public\, offering attendees the opportunity to meet the artists\, enjoy light refreshments\, and experience an evening that promises an inspiring atmosphere for art lovers\, collectors\, and anyone seeking a moment of peace through the creative process. We hope this exhibition provides visitors with a space to pause and rediscover the solace found in the wild.
