SUMMARY:Felting Fairies (3D and 2D fibers)
DESCRIPTION:Design your own 2D or 3D felted fairy using fiber construction techniques including needle felting and sewing. All materials provided.\n\n\nIrish fairies are traditionally titled Aes Sídhe in gaelic or the Sidhe or Shee\, which roughly translates as “the people of the mound.” In the spirit of the March 17 St. Patrick’s Day holiday\, visitors are invited to create their own 2D and 3D fairies using needle felting\, sewing\, and a variety of fiber construction technique: methods including a standing figure or a flat frameable piece. \nSpecial guest teaching artist Jamie Campbell will demonstrate and guide participants through original 3D fairie construction. Jamie created large scale sculptures and instablation work in the gallery at Cherry Street Pier during Phantastic Phibers. She has taught several workshops in Studio 16 including creating bats\, light up jellyfish\, and Delaware River Monsters. \nResident Artist Bonnie MacAllister creates 2D and 3D figurative work\, and she will guide you through combining techniques and pattern making. All materials provided\, all ages and abilities. \nBonnie has exhibited at the State Museum of Pennsylvania\, Woodmere Art Museum\, Trenton City Museum\, and the Yellowstone Art Museum. She opens her studio 16 at Cherry Street Pier for community fiber arts experiences. \nGetting to Cherry Street Pier: \nhttps://www.cherrystreetpier.com/getting-here/

SUMMARY:Music Behind the Bars
DESCRIPTION:Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture is thrilled to announce an extraordinary evening of live music featuring former Syrian prisoners of war Hassan Abd Alrahman\, Asaad Shlash\, Faraj Birkdar\, Kesra Kurdi\, Ibrahim Byrakdar\, Haitham Alkatreb and Adnan Hassan. These seven musicians will perform the live in concert on March 22nd\, 2025\, at 7:00 PM at Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture\, located at 310 W Master St. Philadelphia\, PA. \nThirty years ago\, a group of political prisoners formed a band inside the cells of Syria’s notorious Sednaya Prison—dubbed the “Human Slaughterhouse” by Amnesty International in 2017—to resist the oppressive noise that deepened their suffering. Using makeshift instruments crafted from food scraps\, clothing threads\, and other prison materials\, they whispered and played their songs in secret. For the first time\, 34 of these songs were documented through Eylaf Bader Eddin’s research on Sijniyya\, a newly coined term for Syrian prison songs within the country’s cultural field. Now\, decades later\, several of these musicians have reunited to perform live\, using replicas of the instruments they originally built in prison. This concert sheds light on the resilience and creative resistance that emerged within Syria’s prison system. Davidson College and its community are invited to witness this extraordinary U.S. premiere\, followed by a discussion. Al-Bustan will provide an Iftar Dinner prior to the musical performance. \nCost: Tickets are $50\, with a sliding scale option of $20 to enhance accessibility. Student tickets are available for $15. Purchase tickets here.

SUMMARY:Self Care Sundays

This event will take place at Black Lotus HHC at 206 Rittenhousetown Lane\, where you can unwind and focus on yourself. \nTake part in yoga sessions\, meditation exercises\, and mindfulness activities to rejuvenate your mind and body. Treat yourself to healthy snacks and refreshments while connecting with like-minded individuals. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to prioritize your well-being and practice self-love. See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane.
