SUMMARY:Relics and Ruins: East Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hike to learn about some of Fairmount Park’s historical hidden gems!\n\nDATE\nSaturday\, March 15 \n\n\n\nTIME\n9:00 am – 12:00 pm \n\n\n\nLOCATION\nWoodford Mansion \n  \n\n\n\nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy’s John Sigmund\, Director of Partnerships and Sponsorships and park history enthusiast\, for a three-mile guided hike to explore the relics and ruins of Fairmount Park. \nAs one of America’s oldest urban parks\, Fairmount Park has accumulated many layers of history — sometimes literally! A closer exploration of the landscape reveals the ruins of abandoned infrastructure and buildings that go back to the beginnings of the 178-year-old park system and occasionally\, even further. Most of the year\, nature cloaks these hidden treasures in dense growth\, but the bare woods of the winter provide the perfect time to go off the beaten path. \nIf you’re fascinated by Philly history and discovering hidden treasures of park past\, this hike is not to be missed! \nThis is the event page for the March 15 East Park hike; however\, there will also be a West Park hike on March 29 (more info here). Sign up for one date or for both! \nPlease note\, this hike will have some challenging sections that require agility. Since we will occasionally venture off trail\, you are encouraged to wear sturdy hiking boots and rugged outerwear that can withstand scrapes from sharp sticks and branches (please\, no fashion or formal wear! :)). \nEstimated distance: about three miles\nLevel: moderate\nTerrain: mainly hilly trails \nMarch 15: Relics & Ruins\, East Park\nSome haunting historic highlights on this tour include: the smallest surviving structure designed by Frank Furness\, two forgotten spring heads and a spooky springhouse popular in neighborhood lore\, a WPA built bathroom\, and the hidden ruins of a colonial-era mansion that burnt down 36 years ago. Meet at Woodford Mansion. \nTICKET PRICE: $15 \n\n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO: \n\nOn the ticketing page\, you can sign up for one event or for both.\nThis hike is roughly three miles over mainly hilly trails.\nAppropriate for adults and mature adolescents (minors must be ticketed and accompanied by a guardian).\nPlease dress according to weather conditions and wear good hiking shoes (boots/sneakers).\nBring water (drinking water is not available in the park) and a snack.\nUnfortunately\, there are no bathrooms along the hike route so please plan accordingly.\nWe will leave a few minutes after the scheduled start time. Please arrive at the departure location at least five minutes early. We cannot guarantee that latecomers can join after the group has departed.\n\n\nPARKING/GETTING THERE: We will meet at Woodford Mansion. There is plenty of free parking available nearby. As always\, NEVER leave valuables in your car!

SUMMARY:The Kahlo Quartet: Quartets Then and Now in West Philly
DESCRIPTION:Artcinia favorite\, The Kahlo Quartet\, is back! Known for their mission to bridge the classical canon with Latin American music\, The Kahlo Quartet creates performances that celebrate both tradition and innovation. This program takes listeners on a rich musical journey\, showcasing works from the Classical period to contemporary compositions\, with a special nod to Latin American influences. You will hear music by Mozart\, Beethoven\, Caroline Shaw\, and Jessie Montgomery. \nAudrey Lee\, violin \nManuela Isabel Romero Gonzalez\, violin \nFreddy Contreras\, viola \nAndrea Beltran Landers\, cello \nAbout Kahlo Quartet: \nThe Kahlo Quartet began its journey around a shared vision that everyone should have access to meaningful musical experiences\, and a shared mission to create a bridge between the typical classical canon and Latin American music. Now based in Philadelphia\, the Kahlo members work regularly with community partners in pursuit of these core values. For the Kahlo Quartet\, success is measured by audience connection and community impact. \nMembers Audrey Lee (United States)\, Manuela Romero (Cuba)\, Freddy Contreras (Venezuela)\, and Andrea Beltran Landers (Peru) are eager to explore the chamber music repertoire from their respective cultural backgrounds. Because storytelling through music is a living and changing art form\, the Kahlo String Quartet actively seeks collaborations with composers around the world

SUMMARY:Volunteer – Nurture Nature
DESCRIPTION:Love nature and want to lend her a helping hand? Join fellow volunteers in removing invasives\, nurturing native plants\, or restoring habitat. Projects vary\, but good fun (and dirt) is guaranteed! Natural Lands cares for more than 23\,000 acres and 120 miles of trails\, and we couldn’t do it without volunteers like you. \nVolunteering with Natural Lands is a great way to learn more about the natural world\, give your time to a great cause\, and connect with enthusiastic\, like-minded people. \nThe health and safety of staff and volunteers is our highest priority during this volunteer event. Please review “before you go” details. \nCapacity is limited for this small-group event\, and pre-registration is required. If you sign-up\, please plan to participate. If you need to cancel\, please let us know so another volunteer can attend. All are welcome\, ages 12 and up. Minors under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult parent/guardian. Adult(s) and the Minor(s) for whom they are responsible\, should register in the same transaction. \n
