SUMMARY:Free art show-Absurd Spectaculars
DESCRIPTION:The artists in this wide embrace seek to manifest a one-of-a-kind fantastical world\, percolating in metaphors by means of commingling artistic disciplines and subjects. These detractors of traditional norms and expectations wrote their own rules in an unapologetic way amidst a culture enamored with aesthetics. Because the roots of such visionaries is often steeped in the underground culture there is always a core of rebellion and being provocative shining thorough. The obscure messages are oft based on dreams and the unconscious\, on renegade concepts and provocative symbolism. At times imagery can be poking fun at the conventional matters of any kind\, using humor and sarcasm as its strongest device. Compositions are filled with abstract imagery and dreamy cartoon characters painted and drawn with impressive technical ability that candidly blurs the line between low and high art. We hope you will come join us in this journey of intrigue.\nStop in the gallery 5 days a week to view and add to your collection. All works are also available for sale online through our site www.blackmothgallery.com. You will not want to miss out on experiencing these one of a kind works in person. \nArtists Featured Work:\nWes Benscoter\nMichael Camarra\nWilly Cutlip\nCzr-Prz\nHengone\nGreg Hergert\nBriana Hertzog\nHanna Jaeun\nJoKa\nJesso Lange\nGrelin Machin\nNoseGo\nBruce Parker\nJohn Rego\nDebbie Rich\nPaul Vavarone\nAlyssa Young

SUMMARY:Stomping Ground: Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the public reception of Stomping Ground at the 20*20 House in Lansdowne!\n\n\nThe Lansdowne Art Committee invites you to join us on August 30th for the opening reception of Stomping Ground at the 20*20 House. \n \nSTOMPING GROUND \nOn view at 20*20 House from August 30 – October 19\, 2025 \n \nWhat does it mean to live in a city\, to move through it\, shape it\, and be shaped by it? \n \nIn Stomping Ground\, contemporary artists Eustace Mamba\, Kara Mshinda\, Sophie C. White\, and Nasir Young celebrate the everyday rhythms of Philadelphia. Their practices explore layered connections between personal memory\, urban space\, and cultural identity. They draw from real places\, “championing the mundane” as they elevate moments that often slip by unnoticed\, blending lived experience with imagination and aspiration. \nEustace Mamba draws on his West Indian heritage and Manhattan upbringing to challenge colonial visual norms and offer a textured look at contemporary American life. Kara Mshinda similarly considers identity\, cultural intersections\, and social dynamics in her work. Using anthropological methods to document city life\, she captures everything from graffiti and playgrounds to hastily posted signage. Her vivid scanographic collages uncover the rich stories embedded in street corners and telephone poles. \nSophie C. White’s plein-air paintings and intuitive papier-mâché sculptures are evidence of neighborhoods in flux. She mourns what’s disappearing while preserving an “artifact of a moment” with care and presence. Nasir Young’s paintings and sketches also dwell in the temporary\, capturing fleeting scenes from his time living in South Philly. Guided by happenstance\, he builds a “visual vocabulary” that shines light on what’s often passed over. \n \nTogether\, these artists encourage viewers to see the city not as a backdrop\, but as a living place shaped by human creativity\, memory\, and connection. In a city that’s constantly shifting\, where transformation carries both risk and possibility\, it can be hard to see and express our own place within it. These works ease the burden of imagination by making visible that which often feels just out of reach. They remind us what we already have\, acknowledge what’s missing\, and point us towards possible progress. \n \nStomping Ground pays tribute to the city rooted in attention\, imagination\, and the potential in acts of care. \n \nPublic gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays\, noon – 4 pm. \n \nThis exhibition is organized by the LEDC’s Art Committee\, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the Lansdowne Arts Committee is to create\, foster\, and promote Lansdowne’s identity as a vibrant and inspiring artistic community. The Lansdowne Art Committee is dedicated to nurturing creative expression\, enhancing community engagement\, stimulating economic growth\, preserving and celebrating Lansdowne’s diversity\, and cultivating arts education and access. \nThe 20*20 House is a Lansdowne Borough-owned property. Originally a residential home built in the early 19th century\, the 20*20 House has been transformed into a community space with gallery spaces on 2 floors as well as a yoga studio. \n \nAccessibility Statement of 20*20 House \nThe LEDC and Lansdowne Art Committee are committed to provide a welcoming and accessible environment for all individuals\, including those with disabilities. We strive to ensure that our facilities\, services\, and events are as accessible as we can make them\, giving you the confidence to visit us. \nParking \nThere are several dedicated parking spaces on campus available to the public\, as well as additional street parking along Lansdowne Court. \nThere is a passenger drop-off area on the rear accessibility ramp. \nFirst Floor Accessibility \nInclusive Design: Our first floor is designed to be inclusive and ensure accessibility for all. \nApproachable Entrance: Our accessible entrance is in the back of the house. SUMMARY:20s and 30s Labor Day Weekend: 4.5-Mile Phoenixville 3-Ravine Hike
DESCRIPTION:The town of Phoenixville was just voted #1 Small Town in America by Travel/Leisure magazine because of its charming combination of restaurants\, breweries\, shops and nearby hiking/biking trails. It is located about 25 miles NW of Philadelphia. \nOur 4.5-mile hike starts just outside of Phoenixville at Tow Path Road\, Lock 60 parking lot in Mont Clare\, PA\, GPS coordinates 40.144980\, -75.508560. We will walk a short distance to the Neil Thorpe trail\, the first of 3 ravine trails that intersect the Schuylkill River trail. We will exit the Neil Thorpe trail via the Ravine #2 trail. Both trails are shady dirt paths that include short\, steep elevations\, a few small stream crossings and a ridge overlook of the Schuylkill River. \nWe will leave the ravine to visit the Schuylkill Valley Nature Center\, a small\, local animal sanctuary that contains wild and domesticated animals. There\, we can relax at a picnic table and enjoy snacks and conversation. From the nature center\, we will take another dirt path that leads to the paved\, Ravine 3 trail that returns us to the Schuylkill River trail. The hike has a total elevation of approx. 400ft. \nAfter the hike\, there is an optional lunch (with parking) at Lock 29 restaurant\, which is at the entrance to Tow Path Rd. \nThe trails may be muddy after a rain\, so wear sturdy walking shoes or boots (sandals are not recommended). Depending on the time of day\, it can be buggy. Consider wearing pants because we will hit patches of low overgrowth on the trails. Bring a hiking pole if you want additional support. Layer clothing according to the temperatures and be prepared with water and a snack. Poor weather conditions may cancel the hike\, so check the trip posting before departing. \nPlease note: In order to comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws\, all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or a legal guardian. This policy applies for all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter as well as any other Chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania. \nThis is intended to be a 20s/30s affinity trip\, but everyone is welcome. If you do not identify with that group\, we trust that you have reviewed our allyship criteria\, have done your due diligence to educate yourself\, and have committed to abide by our Code of Conduct. If you have questions\, please contact the trip leader(s) by emailing them for more information.
