SUMMARY:Nurture with Nature – Rooted Rhythms: Seasonal Cycles & Botanical Clay Art
DESCRIPTION:Connect with the changing seasons in our “Nurture with Nature” series with a hands-on workshop that celebrates the earth’s quiet wisdom. \nAs autumn descends and plants begin their gentle journey inward\, we’ll explore the fascinating activity happening beneath the earth’s surface. Discover how plants meticulously prepare for the winter season and gain a deeper understanding of how to align ourselves with nature’s inherent cycles and rhythms. We’ll discuss the crucial role of healthy soil and focus on three magnificent native plants that are at their most vibrant as summer concludes\, beautifully marking the end of the growing cycle. \nInspired by these insights\, you’ll design your own unique clay trinket bowl. Using easy-to-work-with air clay\, you’ll embed and adorn your creation with a variety of beautiful found\, dried\, or pressed natural materials. This creative process allows you to fashion a personal keepsake that reflects the season’s beauty and the profound connection between us and the natural world. \nWorkshops are led by Kate Irvine\, a licensed Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner and mixed media artist. Participants are welcome to attend one\, some\, or all four 2025 sessions. \nThe August session will take place in Nature’s Sanctuary\, one of two green burial habitats at Laurel Hill West. \nWorking with the healing power of plants can help to decrease stress and anxiety\, process grief\, and improve overall well-being. Combining eco-mindfulness and creative activities\, the workshops in this series invite participants to learn about the uses and roles of specific native plants through the lens of natural cycles.

SUMMARY:Philadelphia's Lost Jewish Quarter
DESCRIPTION:Explore the dense history of Philadelphia’s historically Jewish neighborhood – 2 miles\, 2 hours.\n\n\nEvent lasts 2 hours. Meet at the Southwest corner of 6th and Lombard\, outside Starr Garden playground. Tour ends at 5th and Spruce. \nFrom the 1880s through the 1920s the area between Spruce and Christian Street and 2nd and 6th was the Philadelphia equivalent of New York’s famous Lower East Side. Hear about the dramatic Kosher butcher strike of 1911\, learn about the Jews arrested on Yom Kippur in 1889\, hear the ongoing debate over the first hot-dog roll\, and discover the true story of the Three Stooges. \n \nJerry Silverman is a certified member of the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides. He earned a Bachelor of Hebrew Literature and a Master of Jewish Education\, served as the High School principal of Temple Beth Sholom in Cherry Hill\, NJ\, as well as the Educational Director of Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel. Since 2009\, Jerry has been giving tours for Mural Arts Philadelphia\, and the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia. SUMMARY:Free art show-Absurd Spectaculars
DESCRIPTION:The artists in this wide embrace seek to manifest a one-of-a-kind fantastical world\, percolating in metaphors by means of commingling artistic disciplines and subjects. These detractors of traditional norms and expectations wrote their own rules in an unapologetic way amidst a culture enamored with aesthetics. Because the roots of such visionaries is often steeped in the underground culture there is always a core of rebellion and being provocative shining thorough. The obscure messages are oft based on dreams and the unconscious\, on renegade concepts and provocative symbolism. At times imagery can be poking fun at the conventional matters of any kind\, using humor and sarcasm as its strongest device. Compositions are filled with abstract imagery and dreamy cartoon characters painted and drawn with impressive technical ability that candidly blurs the line between low and high art. We hope you will come join us in this journey of intrigue.\nStop in the gallery 5 days a week to view and add to your collection. All works are also available for sale online through our site www.blackmothgallery.com. Treat yourself to healthy snacks and refreshments while connecting with like-minded individuals. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to prioritize your well-being and practice self-love. See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane.
