SUMMARY:Home for the Holidays
DESCRIPTION:The gardens at Stoneleigh are glorious from spring to fall\, but in wintertime the warmth of the Main House beckons. During this exclusive holiday open house\, explore the spectacular Tudor Revival-style mansion while it is decked with seasonal\, nature-inspired decorations.  \nStroll through the home\, indulge in hot cocoa and tasty treats\, and on select days enjoy musical performances from local choirs\, instrumentalists\, and organists in a festive and cozy setting.  \nOn this date\, we’re thrilled to welcome pianist Francis Martin as one of our featured performers. \nRichard Francis Martin (Francis) was born in San Francisco in 2007 and moved to Philadelphia at the age of six\, where he began his piano studies. Over the years\, he has been fortunate to receive mentorship from exceptional teachers\, including Janet Woods\, with whom he studied from age 10 to 14\, and Michelle Cann\, his current instructor\, who holds the Eleanor Sokoloff Chair in Piano Studies at the Curtis Institute of Music. Francis has earned recognition in numerous competitions. Most recently he performed Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Miami Chamber Orchestra\, following his success at the Florida Young Artists International Piano Competition. In addition to his classical training\, Francis is passionate about jazz music\, drawing inspiration from artists such as Keith Jarrett\, Charles Lloyd\, and Kenny Garrett. His classical music tastes are equally broad\, with influences from pianists such as Ivo Pogorelich\, Alfred Brendel\, Stephen Hough\, and Mitsuko Uchida. \n Can’t make this date? SUMMARY:Solstice Afternoon: Reflections on Rhythms With Poet Jena Osman
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Wharton Esherick Museum on Saturday\, December 21st from 1:00-2:30PM in the 1956 Workshop as we round out a wonderful year focused on the theme of rhythms with award winning Philadelphia-based poet Jena Osman. Jena Osman has authored numerous poetry collections\, with her latest collection A Very Large Array (2023) spanning three decades of poetic and intellectual exploration. \nAt WEM\, the solstice marks a time for reflection\, meaningful conversation\, and community. Jena Osman’s poetry is grounded in historical and archival materials that she transforms into new forms of storytelling that shed light on our present moment. The selection of works Jena Osman will be reading draws our attention to the rhythms of history and locale\, while asking us to think critically about the rhythms of our daily lives today. Osman’s poetry covers topics from the Mummers\, Philadelphia statuary\, and Walt Whitman’s phrenology readings to the history of physiology\, photography\, and capturing human rhythms. Questions and conversation with the poet will be interspersed throughout the reading. \nThe Studio will be open in the half-hour leading up to the reading in the 1956 Workshop beginning at 1:30. Light fare and refreshments will be provided! \nTicket Details:\n$25 per person\n$20 for WEM members – Join or renew today on our website to purchase your ticket at this special price!

SUMMARY:Solstice Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating the shortest day of the year. We will be supplying hot drinks\, light refreshments\, and\, of course\, a bonfire by the river! If you’ve ever wondered how other cultures celebrate the solstice\, take a guided walk with naturalist Mike Weilbacher. Feel free to drop in for whatever parts of the event you wish—see the full schedule of activities below. \n*Please dress warmly and bring your own camp chairs and flashlights. \n2 p.m.– Fire building demonstration \n2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.– Hang by the fire. Self-guided tours of the mansion will be available during this time. \n2:30 p.m.-4 p.m.– Secrets of the Solstice: A Winter’s Walk with Mike Weilbacher \nDecember 21 marks the very first day of winter. But what exactly happens on this solstice day? And how did cultures from around the world and across time mark the moment? On a guided outdoor walk along Glen Foerd’s wonderful property\, naturalist Mike Weilbacher shares the science\, legends\, and traditions of the season\, from the famous Stonehenge to lesser-known Native American woodhenges\, from decking the halls to kissing under the mistletoe (at long last\, you’ll understand why we do this). And how is winter ending on the exact moment it begins?! Mike will weave into the walk what’s happening to Glen Foerd’s plants and animals during the season too. You’ll see twinkling lights\, Hanukkah menorahs\, and Christmas trees in a completely different light.

SUMMARY:Self Care Sundays
DESCRIPTION:Black Lotus Holistic Health Collective presents Self Care Sundays with meditation and yoga classes.\n\n\nWelcome to Self Care Sundays! Join us on Sundays at 11:00 AM for some time dedicated to self-care and relaxation. This event will take place at Black Lotus HHC at 206 Rittenhousetown Lane\, where you can unwind and focus on yourself. \nTake part in yoga sessions\, meditation exercises\, and mindfulness activities to rejuvenate your mind and body. Treat yourself to healthy snacks and refreshments while connecting with like-minded individuals. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to prioritize your well-being and practice self-love. See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane.
