SUMMARY:Toad Detour Training (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to protect our toads!\nToad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring\, hundreds of them cross Port Royal\, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights\, when the conditions are just right\, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings\, saving hundreds of toads.\nThis family friendly Toad Detour volunteer training session will be held virtually\, from 1-3pm on Saturday\, February 22.\nSign Up\nPrefer to attend our in-person training? We have another training session scheduled for February 8th at 1:00pm at Schuylkill Center. Learn more HERE.

Returning west\, we end at the enormous\, multi-modal 69th Street Terminal filled with subways\, trolleys\, buses\, and interurbans. \nGuide Jerry Silverman was born to give this tour. SUMMARY:Object Memory Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:TheLEDC’s Art Committee invites you to celebrate the opening of our newest art exhibit\, “Object Memory” on Saturday\, February 22\, from 5-8 P\n\n\nThe LEDC’s Art Committee invites you to join us for the opening reception for Object Memory on Saturday\, February 22\, from 5-8 PM at the 20*20 Gallery in Lansdowne\, PA. \nWithout prompting\, some objects have the ability to transport us to another time and place. These imprints\, however\, are often fragile and fallible — shaped by telling\, retelling\, omission\, and embellishment. \nIn Object Memory\, artists Jen Blazina and Ashley Catharine Smith collect\, mend\, and revise objects — some inherited from family members\, others left behind by strangers — to explore how the things we inherit can become objects of myth\, shaping our understanding of the past\, each other\, and ourselves. \nJen Blazina is a record keeper of memories. She salvages discarded objects\, revealing their worth as vessels of personal history. By recreating fragile items in bronze and glass\, she renders them durable against the wear of time\, preserving traces of stories that might otherwise fade. \nAshley Catharine Smith examines the forces of emotional expectations and gender roles\, unraveling how they shape relationships and narratives of identity. Using objects from family members as a foundation\, her work confronts fractures of trust\, both within her family and in a society that has repeatedly betrayed the trust of women. \nPlayful at times and poignant at others\, Blazina and Smith’s charged objects evoke cherished memories and honor past lives\, while acknowledging the weight of anxiety and intergenerational trauma. Together they remind us that repair — whether of objects\, relationships\, or histories — is an ongoing process of adaptation and reinvention. What stories can we mend? In what ways do we revise them? And why should we make space for time-worn objects in our modern lives? \n \n \nPublic gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays\, noon – 4 pm. \n \nThis exhibition is organized by the LEDC’s Art Committee\, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the LEDC’s Arts Committee is to create\, foster\, and promote Lansdowne’s identity as a vibrant and inspiring artistic community. The LEDC’s Art Committee is dedicated to nurturing creative expression\, enhancing community engagement\, stimulating economic growth\, preserving and celebrating Lansdowne’s diversity\, and cultivating arts education and access. \n \nThe 20*20 House is a Lansdowne Borough-owned property. Originally a residential home built in the early 19th century\, the 20*20 House has been transformed into a community space with gallery spaces on 2 floors\, a dedicated workshop space\, as well as a yoga studio. \n \nAccessibility Statement of 20*20 House: \nThe LEDC and Lansdowne Art Committee are committed to provide a welcoming and accessible environment for all individuals\, including those with disabilities. We strive to ensure that our facilities\, services\, and events are as accessible as we can make them\, giving you the confidence to visit us. \nParking \nThere are several dedicated parking spaces on campus available to the public\, as well as additional street parking along Lansdowne Court. \nThere is a passenger drop-off area on the rear accessibility ramp. \nFirst Floor Accessibility \nInclusive Design: Our first floor is designed to be inclusive and ensure accessibility for all. \nApproachable Entrance: Our accessible entrance is in the back of the house. There is a ramp for whoever needs it. If possible\, please email us at arts@lansdownesfuture.org in advance of your visit so we can ensure that the gallery sitter is aware that this entrance will be used. \nAccessible Restroom: We offer two accessible gender-neutral bathroom for the convenience of all visitors. \nWide Walkways: Our walkways are wide enough to accommodate wheelchair users\, ensuring smooth and easy navigation. \nRest areas: There are benches and seating throughout the house for those who need to rest. SUMMARY:Greenhouse Yoga at the Horticulture Center
DESCRIPTION:Fairmount Park Conservancy is thrilled to announce the much-anticipated return of Greenhouse Yoga at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center on select dates throughout the winter. \nEscape the winter blues and connect with your practice in the lush\, tropical setting of the Horticulture Center’s greenhouse. These all-level classes take place on select Sundays and will be led by a rotation of experienced teachers from Tula Yoga. \n\nABOUT THE HORTICULTURE CENTER: The Horticulture Center in West Fairmount Park\, a modern exhibition hall and greenhouse\, was built for the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. It sits on the site of the former Horticultural Hall\, an 1876 Centennial Exposition building. Within its walls are a visitor center and greenhouse where one can see many tropical plants and a fine collection of statues interspersed in the greenery. The grounds are open daily. The greenhouse has select open hours that they list on their Instagram page. \nTICKET PRICE: $15 \n\n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO: \n\nPlease bring your own yoga mat. The floor of the Horticulture Center is similar to an outdoor surface. You may want to bring something to place under your yoga mat (both for padding and to keep your yoga mat clean) or be prepared to clean your yoga mat after the class because it will get a little dirty.\nBring your own water and snack.\nThere are bathrooms available inside the Horticulture Center.\nAppropriate for adults and mature adolescents (minors must be ticketed and accompanied by a guardian).\nDue to the large size of the class\, we recommend yogis have at least one yoga class under their belt.\nNew this year: we are offering two yoga classes on the same day – one from 10:00-11:00 AM and another from 11:15 AM-12:15 PM. The classes will be identical and led by the same instructor so we suggest only signing up for one each day. If attending the second class\, please note that you will not be able to enter the greenhouse until participants from the first class have left.\nParks and Rec staff are now locking the north entry gate behind the Please Touch Museum. The ONLY entrance available is the south entry off of Montgomery Drive.\n\n\nPARKING/GETTING THERE: There is plenty of free parking in the lot across from the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center. As always\, NEVER leave valuables in your car! PLEASE NOTE: if there’s no other event happening\, the Parks and Rec staff may close and lock the entry gate after class. We don’t recommend leaving your car in the lot after class has ended. If traveling by public transit\, the nearest stop is at Belmont Ave and South Georges Hill Drive – a half-mile walk from the start. The closest Indego bike station is at Parkside and Belmont Ave\, Case Building – one mile from the start.
