SUMMARY:The Art of Soil Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join InLiquid’s 40th Parallel North Preservation Brigade and artist Rebecca Schultz to make soil pigments!\n\n\nPlease RSVP to join InLiquid and artist Rebecca Schultz on September 16th for a soil pigment and painting workshop at Penn Treaty Park! There will be two sessions of this workshop; please only choose one that works best for your schedule. \nPrehistoric humans made their paint from rocks and soil – and we can still make art with these rich colors today! In this workshop\, participants will explore the process of creating watercolor pigments using local soil samples. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with these materials by creating your own painting. The soil used in this workshop will be collected from Penn Treaty Park\, situated in Fishtown along the Delaware River\, as well as other neighborhoods within the Philadelphia region. \nThe pigments produced during the event will be used by artist Rebecca Schultz in her newest work\, which will be showcased in Material Time\, an exhibition at Park Towne Place in October 2023. By attending this workshop\, not only will you learn a fascinating historical technique\, but you will also have the chance to contribute to this collaborative artwork. \n \nThis event is held outdoors. Please keep the weather in mind when dressing and make sure to bring adequate hydration. There is no running water or bathrooms on site. Rain date September 17th.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Shell Bagging Event-September 16th-Delaware
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Estuary Week and help PDE bag oyster shells so that they can used in restoration projects and support clean waters!\n\n\nPartnership for the Delaware Estuary has been collecting oyster shell from Wilmington area restaurants since early 2016. Generally\, spent oyster shells go to landfills\, but with our recycling program shells are going back to the Delaware Bay. \nOyster shells are important for baby oysters and the entire aquatic ecosystem. Oysters are ecosystem engineers and a keystone species in the Delaware Bay. These awesome shellfish not only filter our water but oyster reefs are important habitat for lots of local wildlife. By returning oyster shell back to the Delaware Bay we can create habitat for juvenile oysters to settle on. We need to put our recycled oyster shells into bags to use in local living shoreline installations. The process is time consuming\, so we need volunteers like you! It is a little messy and a bit physical\, so be prepared! \nWho: Anyone age 12 or over! (Children under 18 need parental consent prior to participating\, and those under 16 would need a parent present during the event) \nWhat:  Putting recycled oyster shells into bags for use in Delaware Bay shoreline restoration projects. \nWhen: Saturday\, September 16th\, 9:30am-1:00pm \nWhere: North Church St.\, Wilmington\, DE (exact address to follow after registration).  \nWhat to Bring: Weather dependent clothing\, close toed shoes\, gloves (if don’t have your own\, we’ll have some available)\, water\, and snacks \n Please contact Jecy Klinkam (jklinkam@delawareestuary.org) for any additional questions.
