SUMMARY:Stained Glass Planchette
DESCRIPTION:Learn the process of stained glass while making a Ouiji board planchette to hang in your home!\n\n\nWith this workshop you will have a chance to learn about all the steps of building a stained glass piece. This class will involve cutting much of your own glass\, copper foiling and soldering\, assembling a cane border\, and attaching a hanging crystal ball! You can choose your colors from a combo of pre cut colored glass\, and will cut some pieces yourself. We will add metal wire hangers. \n \nYou’ll be completing most steps of this project on your own. If you have any experience with a solder\, have attended workshops with us previously\, or are creatively inclined- this will be a simple class for you! If you are a complete beginner you may want to come with a lot of patience\, or look for one of our shorter classes. We will have a 30 minute break halfway through class\, and we are located conveniently next to many different food spots. \n \nWhile working\, your instructor is happy to share all the best websites and shops to help guide you towards building your own stained glass studio. Come with questions if you’re looking to continue the glass journey\, or show up just for the experience. No previous knowledge necessary. \n \nOrganized by The Craft Coven\, this event helps support our free and low cost programminng. For more information on the group’s missions and to get involved more widely check out https://www.TheCraftCoven.org and become a Member for all the inside opportunities and classes. \n \nThe Location: This event is held at The Craft Coven’s NEW SPACE AT 10 North 3rd Street in Olde City. SUMMARY:Toad Detour Training (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to protect our toads!\nToad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in the early spring\, hundreds of them cross Port Royal\, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. Toad Detour season runs from March 1st to June 30th. On select nights\, when the conditions are just right\, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings\, saving hundreds of toads.\nThis family friendly Toad Detour volunteer training session will be held virtually\, from 1-3pm on Saturday\, February 22.\nSign Up\nPrefer to attend our in-person training? We have another training session scheduled for February 8th at 1:00pm at Schuylkill Center. Learn more HERE.

DESCRIPTION:Love exploring subway history? Then this tour is for you.\n\n\nTheme: WHAT IS\, WAS\, and NEVER WAS. \nMeet inside 30th Street Station at the angel statue on the east side of the main hall. Bathrooms are nearby. Event lasts roughly 2 hours. Begins at 30th Street Amtrak Station\, ends at 69th Street Terminal. \nLove exploring subway history? Continuing on the Market-Frankford Subway/El east\, we emerge from the subway at Spring Garden Station and learn about the elevated line that went directly to Penn’s Landing 100 years ago. Returning west\, we end at the enormous\, multi-modal 69th Street Terminal filled with subways\, trolleys\, buses\, and interurbans. \nGuide Jerry Silverman was born to give this tour. He was the very first rider ever on PATCO as a teenager and later the chair of the SEPTA Citizen Advisory Committee. \n***PLEASE NOTE*** You will need to purchase one SEPTA fare during the tour. SUMMARY:Object Memory Gallery Opening
DESCRIPTION:TheLEDC’s Art Committee invites you to celebrate the opening of our newest art exhibit\, “Object Memory” on Saturday\, February 22\, from 5-8 P\n\n\nThe LEDC’s Art Committee invites you to join us for the opening reception for Object Memory on Saturday\, February 22\, from 5-8 PM at the 20*20 Gallery in Lansdowne\, PA. \nWithout prompting\, some objects have the ability to transport us to another time and place. These imprints\, however\, are often fragile and fallible — shaped by telling\, retelling\, omission\, and embellishment. \nIn Object Memory\, artists Jen Blazina and Ashley Catharine Smith collect\, mend\, and revise objects — some inherited from family members\, others left behind by strangers — to explore how the things we inherit can become objects of myth\, shaping our understanding of the past\, each other\, and ourselves. \nJen Blazina is a record keeper of memories. She salvages discarded objects\, revealing their worth as vessels of personal history. By recreating fragile items in bronze and glass\, she renders them durable against the wear of time\, preserving traces of stories that might otherwise fade. \nAshley Catharine Smith examines the forces of emotional expectations and gender roles\, unraveling how they shape relationships and narratives of identity. Using objects from family members as a foundation\, her work confronts fractures of trust\, both within her family and in a society that has repeatedly betrayed the trust of women. \nPlayful at times and poignant at others\, Blazina and Smith’s charged objects evoke cherished memories and honor past lives\, while acknowledging the weight of anxiety and intergenerational trauma. Together they remind us that repair — whether of objects\, relationships\, or histories — is an ongoing process of adaptation and reinvention. What stories can we mend? In what ways do we revise them? And why should we make space for time-worn objects in our modern lives? \n \n \nPublic gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays\, noon – 4 pm. \n \nThis exhibition is organized by the LEDC’s Art Committee\, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the LEDC’s Arts Committee is to create\, foster\, and promote Lansdowne’s identity as a vibrant and inspiring artistic community. The LEDC’s Art Committee is dedicated to nurturing creative expression\, enhancing community engagement\, stimulating economic growth\, preserving and celebrating Lansdowne’s diversity\, and cultivating arts education and access. \n \nThe 20*20 House is a Lansdowne Borough-owned property. Originally a residential home built in the early 19th century\, the 20*20 House has been transformed into a community space with gallery spaces on 2 floors\, a dedicated workshop space\, as well as a yoga studio. \n \nAccessibility Statement of 20*20 House: \nThe LEDC and Lansdowne Art Committee are committed to provide a welcoming and accessible environment for all individuals\, including those with disabilities. We strive to ensure that our facilities\, services\, and events are as accessible as we can make them\, giving you the confidence to visit us. \nParking \nThere are several dedicated parking spaces on campus available to the public\, as well as additional street parking along Lansdowne Court. \nThere is a passenger drop-off area on the rear accessibility ramp. \nFirst Floor Accessibility \nInclusive Design: Our first floor is designed to be inclusive and ensure accessibility for all. \nApproachable Entrance: Our accessible entrance is in the back of the house. There is a ramp for whoever needs it. If possible\, please email us at arts@lansdownesfuture.org in advance of your visit so we can ensure that the gallery sitter is aware that this entrance will be used. \nAccessible Restroom: We offer two accessible gender-neutral bathroom for the convenience of all visitors. \nWide Walkways: Our walkways are wide enough to accommodate wheelchair users\, ensuring smooth and easy navigation. \nRest areas: There are benches and seating throughout the house for those who need to rest. SUMMARY:Greenhouse Yoga at the Horticulture Center
DESCRIPTION:Fairmount Park Conservancy is thrilled to announce the much-anticipated return of Greenhouse Yoga at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center on select dates throughout the winter. \nEscape the winter blues and connect with your practice in the lush\, tropical setting of the Horticulture Center’s greenhouse. These all-level classes take place on select Sundays and will be led by a rotation of experienced teachers from Tula Yoga. \n\nABOUT THE HORTICULTURE CENTER: The Horticulture Center in West Fairmount Park\, a modern exhibition hall and greenhouse\, was built for the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. It sits on the site of the former Horticultural Hall\, an 1876 Centennial Exposition building. Within its walls are a visitor center and greenhouse where one can see many tropical plants and a fine collection of statues interspersed in the greenery. The grounds are open daily. The greenhouse has select open hours that they list on their Instagram page. \nTICKET PRICE: $15 \n\n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO: \n\nPlease bring your own yoga mat. The floor of the Horticulture Center is similar to an outdoor surface. You may want to bring something to place under your yoga mat (both for padding and to keep your yoga mat clean) or be prepared to clean your yoga mat after the class because it will get a little dirty.\nBring your own water and snack.\nThere are bathrooms available inside the Horticulture Center.\nAppropriate for adults and mature adolescents (minors must be ticketed and accompanied by a guardian).\nDue to the large size of the class\, we recommend yogis have at least one yoga class under their belt.\nNew this year: we are offering two yoga classes on the same day – one from 10:00-11:00 AM and another from 11:15 AM-12:15 PM. The classes will be identical and led by the same instructor so we suggest only signing up for one each day. If attending the second class\, please note that you will not be able to enter the greenhouse until participants from the first class have left.\nParks and Rec staff are now locking the north entry gate behind the Please Touch Museum. The ONLY entrance available is the south entry off of Montgomery Drive.\n\n\nPARKING/GETTING THERE: There is plenty of free parking in the lot across from the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center. As always\, NEVER leave valuables in your car! PLEASE NOTE: if there’s no other event happening\, the Parks and Rec staff may close and lock the entry gate after class. We don’t recommend leaving your car in the lot after class has ended. If traveling by public transit\, the nearest stop is at Belmont Ave and South Georges Hill Drive – a half-mile walk from the start. The closest Indego bike station is at Parkside and Belmont Ave\, Case Building – one mile from the start.

See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane. SUMMARY:Creative Conversations with Guest Artist Paul Dusold
DESCRIPTION:Creative Conversations (CC) is a program bringing emerging and established artists together to engage in conversation in a welcoming and relaxed environment. CC is an opportunity to meet with artists who work in various mediums and talk about the joys\, struggles\, inspirations\, and technical issues artists deal with throughout their creative journey. Participants have the opportunity to share their work and receive sensitive and useful feedback from the visiting artist.\nPaul Dusold Paul DuSold studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and privately with Arthur DeCosta and in fresco with B.F. Long. He has taught for thirty years at various institutions including Wayne Art Center\, the Delaware Art Museum\, Main Line Art Center and continues to teach at Fleischer Art Memorial and Woodmere Art Museum.\nArtistic Statement\n“My artwork is best described as atmospheric representationalism. Still life\, figures in landscape and portraits are my preferred subject matter.\nMy influences are mostly sixteenth and seventeenth century Italian and Spanish painters; I am perhaps most informed by the use of oil paint as an expressive medium by the Venetian artists of the sixteenth century.\nThe Primary aspiration of my efforts is to paint pictures whose effect of meaning is achieved through a very acute balance of color\, light and shadow and seal of forms.” Personal Website: www.pauldusold.com

SUMMARY:Vegan Soul Food Cooking Demo
DESCRIPTION:https://www.meetup.com/blackphiladelphia/events/305903628/?utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=share-btn_savedevents_share_modal&utm_source=lin\n\n\nThe origins of soul food emerged out of struggle and survival mechanisms of enslaved African people in the Deep South. They were given scraps of animals\, such as chicken feet and heads\, pigs snouts and intestines\, oxtails\, and other leftover organs\, low in quality and nutritional value. Using these\, they refined African traditional recipes into dishes that have become staples in American food culture. \nTo commemorate Black History Month\, we will be paying homage to African American soul food traditions in a budget friendly\, veganized way\, \n \nMenu: \nChicken (oyster mushrooms)Mac-n-cheezeKale Greens \nAll gluten-free\, soy-free\, nut-free \n \nFebruary is Black History Month and Vegan Cuisine Month\, so bring your family and friends to this celebration of Black culture and history with great discussions and a spectacular taste testing session! \nBio:Vegan Chef Taslim “Taz” Patterson witnessed health issues in her family\, so in 2016 she did a personal 30-day vegan challenge\, which resulted in her losing 20 pounds. But Taz was just guessing what to do. \nTaz started to veganize her favorite foods for her friends\, family\, and community; she would mimic the smell and texture of foods. Her passion for making delicious vegan foods turned into her business Royal T Vegans in 2017\, and she went completely vegan for good. She operated out of a ghost kitchen and began to vend\, meal prep\, and host events. \nTaz partnered with Philly radio station Power 99 providing food for their vegan week at the end of 2019. She has hosted several events (live demos)\, sold hundreds of platters\, and donated food to organizations. Taz’s passion is fueled by making food affordable and healthy for people. Look for what she does next @RoyalTVegans.

SUMMARY:The Wissahickon in February with Debbie Hoellein and Jim McClory
DESCRIPTION:Photo courtesy of Chuck Uniatowski\nMeeting at the Rex Avenue Trailhead Kiosk\nJoin Debbie and Jim on our last hike of the winter. This month we’ll be appreciating some of the work done by the FOW in 2024 as we traverse 2 reroutes and walk across the new pedestrian bridge. And we’ll note the beautiful vistas before the trees leaf up in the spring. We’ll pass by some areas of historical and cultural interest and also some beautiful rocks.\nOur route is about 3.5 miles and includes some rocky ascents and descents. Save some energy for the climb up to Rex Avenue at the end.\nChildren 12 years of age and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult\, but\, please\, no dogs except for service animals.\nDistance: 3.5 miles\nLevel: Difficult (many inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.\nRegister below!
