We will search for the insects\, fish\, amphibians\, reptiles\, and birds that dwell about and within. We will also focus on the abundant plant life these species depend on.\nThere’s more to discover in Tyler’s 650 acres. Join Dr. Richard Brenner for a walk through the various eco-communities at Tyler. From seasonal wonders\, living fossils\, meadows\, watery locations\, geological treasures\, conservation areas\, and unexpected wildlife\, Richard will expertly guide you to prime areas for an experience you will remember. Expertise from others will often be on hand for a more in-depth exploration. These rambles are for those who have a love for nature\, exploring\, and learning. While a description of each Ramble is posted in advance\, we reserve the right to make last-minute changes\, including adjustments for weather and trail conditions. Bring your reusable water bottle and dress for the weather\, including sturdy shoes. Long pants and bug spray are recommended for tick prevention. \nUpon arrival\, please check in first at the Visitor Center\, where you’ll then meet your guide.\nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED \nMEMBERS (sign in for your discount!): FREE\nNON-MEMBERS: $18 per Adult; $10 per Teen (ages 15-17). DESCRIPTION:Connect with neighbors and your neighborhood during this fun community greening and walking program.\n\n\nFor a few weeks this Summer\, meetup at the West Oak Lane Library and let Black Girls With Green Thumbs kick off your 2025 outdoor wellness routine! \nBack for the 5th year\, Grow & Walk Philly  is community wellness challenge that combines gardening\, exercise\, and joy to help community members improve their health\, connect with nature\, and build meaningful relationships with neighbors. \n\n\n\nYOU will earn badges\, make new friends\, and discover the joy of gardening\, walking\, and exercise — all while having a blast with your neighbors! \n \nDuring Grow & Walk Philly\, you’ll begin to look at your neighborhood with fresh eyes!  \n \nEvery two weeks\, we meet up for a fun combination of group exercise with a professional trainer\, followed by a different wellness challenge (activity) that centers around gardening\, walking\, or lite fitness.  \n \nWalking destinations will include a variety of places in the West Oak Lane area – some with gardens that we tend\, others that we admire – that contribute to the community’s beauty and health: \n\nWest Oak Lane Library (+ vegetable garden)\nEmlen Elementary (+ sensory garden)\nFinley Recreation Center\nAwbury Park\n\n\n\n\nYou’ll even earn “badges” along the way to commemorate every walking and gardening milestone. Remember\, it’s okay to celebrate the small successes!\n\n\n\nAs you progress\, our walking route gets longer — leading up to the BIG day: the Grow & Walk-A-Thon! Think of it as your very own 5K adventure through the neighborhood! \n \nThe Walk-A-Thon (neighborhood walk/run) starts at the West Oak Lane Library and ends in a community celebration at Awbury Park.  \nThe Walk-A-Thon is free to all Grow & Walk program participants and West Oak Lane residents. The registration fee for all others is on a sliding scale. Registration for the Walk-A-Thon is open!  \n \n \n*participation in each bi-weekly program date is not required but encouraged so you can receive the full health benefits. \n \nWhether you’re a fitness newbie or a seasoned pro\, Grow & Walk is for all ages and abilities. Although the focus is on plants\, we will talk about whatever we might see while we are out! In July and August\, we hope to see a large variety of summer wildflowers. All levels of knowledge are welcome.\nPLEASE NOTE: To avoid the hottest part of the day\, July and August walks are scheduled for 11:00 am–1:00 pm\, with two exceptions: July 19\, 1-3 pm and August 16\, 1-3 pm\nThere may be some periods of moderately paced hiking\, so wear comfortable hiking shoes. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. DESCRIPTION:Did you know more than 40\,000 plants thrive at Stoneleigh: a natural garden? Grab gloves and join staff and fellow volunteers in weeding\, planting\, mulching\, and other seasonal garden projects. \nVolunteering with Natural Lands is a great way to learn more about the natural world\, give your time to a great cause\, and connect with like-minded people. \nThe health and safety of staff and volunteers is our highest priority during this volunteer event. Please review “before you go” details. \nCapacity is limited for this small-group event\, and pre-registration is required. If you sign-up\, please show-up. If you need to cancel\, please let us know so another volunteer can attend. All are welcome\, ages 12 and up. Children age 12-14 must be accompanied by an adult.

DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Valley Green Inn\nRegardless of where you park\, be sure to refrain from leaving any valuables in your car.\nThere will be bathroom access at the Valley Green Inn before we walk over to our worksite ~.75 miles away.\nWould you like to be part of keeping the Wissahickon Valley watershed healthy and litter-free? Then join us on Tuesday mornings this summer for a Devil’s Pool Clean-up!\nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities:\n• Litter clean-up: carrying trash bags up to 20 lbs\, hiking up to 1.5 miles\, navigating rocky terrain\n• Repetitive motions\nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants\, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email the day before the event. DESCRIPTION:Volunteer with Haverford College Arboretum!\n\n\nEvery other Tuesday during the active volunteer season (April – October) the Arboretum hosts volunteer workdays open to the community. Each session is led by a staff member and focuses on gardening in a different area of campus. Activities will vary each week and can include but are not limited to planting\, weeding\, mulching\, clearing invasives\, and watering. The tasks required in each specific session will be announced monthly via our volunteer eNews email (sign up here). \nAs an Arboretum volunteer\, you can learn new skills\, gain experience\, and become a valued member of our volunteer task force. We are always looking for new team members and hope you will consider lending a hand!
