See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane. SUMMARY:Nurture with Nature: Fragrance Walk & Herb Pots
DESCRIPTION:Working with the healing power of plants can help to decrease stress and anxiety\, process grief\, and improve overall well-being. Through activities that combine plant materials with eco-mindfulness and creative tools\, the workshops in this therapeutic horticulture series explore the five senses to support connection with ourselves\, one another\, and the natural environment of Nature’s Sanctuary\, Laurel Hill’s native plant garden and green burial area. Monthly sessions are led by Kate Irvine\, a trained horticulturist and mixed media artist with a certificate in Horticultural Therapy. Participants are invited to attend one\, some\, or all of the sessions. \nFragrance Walk & Herb Pots\nSmell your way through Nature’s Sanctuary with an invitation to notice and investigate scents that resonate and evoke memories. Then\, design terracotta pots with dried and pressed plant materials\, which we’ll fill with aromatic clippings as we learn more about why plants omit certain odors as well as about the relationship between smell and memory. \n(Rescheduled from June) \n\nWHEN\nSunday\, July 21\, 2024\n3:00 pm – 5:00 pm \n\nWHERE\nLaurel Hill West\nNature’s Sanctuary

SUMMARY:Profs & Pints Philadelphia: How We're Watched
DESCRIPTION:Profs and Pints Philadelphia presents: “How We’re Watched\,” on the long history and chilling future of the surveillance of faces and bodies\, with Sharrona Pearl\, associate professor of bioethics and history at Drexel University and author of Do I Know You? From Face Blindness to Superrecognition. \nMany of us associate facial recognition technology with sci fi depictions of a dystopian future. The reality\, however\, is that technology intended to track our faces and bodies has already been with us for a very long time. \nLearn about the fascinating and fraught history of biometric surveillance\, and where it might be headed\, with Professor Sharrona Pearl\, historian and theorist of the face and body whose other books include Face/On: Face Transplants and the Ethics of the Other and About Faces: Physiognomy in Nineteenth-Century Britain. \nWe’ll look back at the analogue precursors to today’s digital surveillance tools. You’ll learn about physiognomy\, which involved “reading” facial features to learn about character\, as well about the development and use of fingerprinting. You’ll be introduced to figures such as Alphonse Bertillon\, the French police officer and biometric researcher who developed the first scientific system that used measurements of body parts to track criminals and later played a key role in standardizing the use of mug shots. You’ll learn how the chief East German border guard at Checkpoint Charlie\, the busiest border between East German and West Germany during the Cold War\, developed an analogue system of face recognition technology to prevent people from sneaking across the border. \nFocusing on the present\, Professor Pearl will talk about current facial recognition technology and how a dramatic decline in the number of false positives made through it should not be interpreted as meaning it has improved. She’ll discuss how we should be concerned about how much our privacy is being eroded as increasingly effective and accurate surveillance technology tracks people across time and space. You’ll learn about the deep biases embedded in the tracking of people by their physical features. (Advance tickets: $13.50 plus processing fees. Doors: $17\, or $15 with a student ID. Doors open at 3 pm. Talk starts at 4:30.) \nImage: From an illustration of a facial recognition system by Basem Assiri and Alamgir Hossain (Creative Commons).
