Inside the lid\, you’ll find a mini journal for quick notes and sketches—perfect for storing tiny wonders discovered on the trail!\nThen\, grab your tin and hit the trails for a family-friendly scavenger hunt! We’ll search for hidden wonders—like tiny mushrooms\, unusual leaves\, and signs of wildlife—while discovering fun facts about the natural world and sharpening our observation skills.\nPerfect for young explorers and curious minds. Bring the whole family for an outdoor adventure!\nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED\nThe program is best suited to elementary school children with an accompanying adult. Family and siblings of any age are welcome.  Check-in at the Visitor Center\, where you’ll meet your guide. As with any walk on the Tyler trails\, sturdy shoes are suggested. Participants should bring water and perhaps a walking stick.\nPLEASE NOTE: Strollers may not be ideal on some of our trails. If you plan to bring an infant or young child\, we recommend a carrier. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Glen Foerd for open boating! We’ll have canoes\, rowboats\, and kayaks for guests to explore parts of the Poquessing Creek and Delaware River. This activity is open to all ages\, though be prepared for summer temperatures and moderate physical exertion. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Getting in and out of your boat can be a wet and muddy experience. Please wear appropriate clothing and consider bringing something to change into after the activity. Don’t forget your water\, snacks\, and sunscreen! \nThis is a walk-up\, first-come\, first-served event. Boat space is limited. Glen Foerd staff will do our best to ensure as many people get out on the water as possible\, but we can not make any guarantees. \n The meeting point for this event will be behind the Carriage House. Although the focus is on plants\, we will talk about whatever we might see while we are out. In May\, we should see a large variety of spring wildflowers. All levels of knowledge are welcome. There may be some periods of moderately paced hiking\, so wear comfortable hiking shoes. Feel free to bring a camera and a wildflower guide\, such as Peterson’s Field Guide or Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide\, if you’d like\, and enjoy a botanical-filled walk.  \nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED\nPlease check in first at the Visitor Center\, where you’ll meet your guide afterward. DESCRIPTION:Photo courtesy of Melvin Chappell\nMeeting at 100 Steps\n 100 Steps by Gordon Henderson\nHiking Rim to Rim in Wissahickon Valley Park may not offer the same ‘bragging rights’ as a rim to rim hike of the Grand Canyon\, but it will surely provide you with beautiful scenery\, a rewarding hike on both sides of Wissahickon Creek\, wonderful views\, and friendly folks to enjoy it with! Come join us for the second of our Rim to Rim hikes\, this time on the south side of the park.\nWe will meet at the 100 Steps trailhead and hike along the yellow trail which offers great creek views. We’ll cross Wissahickon Creek and head toward Historic RittenhouseTown where we can explore the newly certified Arboretum (aided in part by FOW volunteers!). We will then cross Lincoln Drive and hike the ‘less-travelled’ trails before returning to our starting point.\nThe hike will be 5.5-6.5 miles with several stops to discuss points of interest. The terrain is hilly with rocks and roots. Food and drink trucks available on the pier. \nThis is drop in so please budget 30 minutes to 1 hour during 12-4. You do not have to stay 12-4 \, but these are the times available fot you to drop in. Registratiion ensures materials will be available for you and your group. \n(Participants can make arrangements to dye another surface such as yarn\, head bands\, or a silk or cotton scarf blank. SUMMARY:Intro to Screenprinting
DESCRIPTION:An introduction to Screenprinting at the Soapbox Community Print Shop & Zine Library in West Philadelphia.\n\n\nAbout this Event \nIn this beginning course you will learn the basics of screenprinting. Participants will bring a prepared image and we will provide all the materials\, tools and training. Learn the protocol of our printshop and darkroom\, as well as health and safety standards for screenprinting. Turn your image into a screen and print an edition of posters\, greeting cards or even t-shirts! With the completion of this beginner course\, students will be prepared to take more specialized\, intermediate courses. Students may also choose to take this beginner course again with a personalized emphasis on multilayer printing. Our classroom environment is welcoming to all skill levels and we strive to make our shop accessible to new and experienced printers alike. A materials fee covers paper\, ink\, use of a screen\, and other consumables.  \nPlease note: Masking is now encouraged\, but optional in the studio space. Individuals who feel uncomfortable using the space with others unmasked\, whether for health or any other reason\, are welcome to request mask wearing while they are using the studio space. \nAbout the Instructor \nNicole Rodrigues is an artist and educator living in Philadelphia. Their work includes making comics\, prints\, illustrations\, screen printed shirts\, and ceramics about the connections we have to nature and our journey to self-actualization. Nicole’s work can provide visual insights on how people could inhabit the world in their physical\, mental\, and imaginary states while navigating destructive systems. Often describing existential dread and despair within their work\, Nicole will sometimes pair that thought with a hopeful avenue of possibilities. \nCost \n$40 for Current Members/$45 for Non-Members \nPlus a $15 materials fee that covers ink\, paper\, screen\, emulsion\, and use of our equipment.
