SUMMARY:Historic Waynesborough Speaker Series: Gary Ecelbarger
DESCRIPTION:The Battle of the Clouds \nJoin historian and author Gary Ecelbarger at 7 p.m. Wednesday\, Nov. 20\, for a new and fascinating look at the Revolutionary War battle that nobody won and which hardly happened at all. \nThis tale of wet gunpowder\, muddy roads\, and missed chances still fascinates military scholars and history buffs alike. What really happened the day the Continental Army and the British redcoats stared each other down from two opposing hillsides outside of Paoli? \nEcelbarger has written 10 books and dozens of essays and articles on the American Revolution\, the American Civil War\, and a host of 18th- and 19th-century personalities and events. His latest book\, George Washington’s Momentous Year: Twelve Months that Transformed the Revolution\, features the Philadelphia Campaign\, the months-long push by the British Army to take over the colonial capital. \nAdmission is $15 at the door or online at www.philalandmarks.org. Historic Waynesborough is at 2049 Waynesborough Rd. in Paoli\, Pa.

SUMMARY:Clinic Cleaners
DESCRIPTION:Clinic Cleaners are volunteers who help us maintain a neat and tidy space for our patients at the Wildlife Clinic. \nWildlife rehabilitation can be messy work\, and volunteers foster a healthy environment by assisting with laundry\, sweeping floors\, and cleaning the lobby. This allows our expert staff to focus more time on caring for the thousands of animals that the Wildlife Clinic cares for every year. \nRegistration Required \nCleaning materials and personal protective equipment\, such as gloves and masks\, are provided. Volunteers should wear clothing they don’t mind getting dirty (yes\, that includes animal waste) and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Clinic Cleaners will not be working directly with animals or have access to patient areas. Clinic Cleaners must be at least 18 years old to sign up. Due to limited space\, we are unable to accept walk-ins.

SUMMARY:Adult Restorative Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Prepare yourself for the holiday season by releasing stress at the Schuylkill Center during the Fall Adult Restorative Retreat. Enjoy an evening in the outdoors with activities to refresh the mind\, body\, and spirit. We’ll start with a family-style dinner\, outdoor exploration\, mindfulness practice with certified Mindful Outdoor Guide Molly Frieberg\, and finally an informative and fun cocktail hour. \nAbout Molly Frieberg:\nMolly Freiberg\, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker\, the owner of Inhabit & Rise\, her private therapy practice in Philadelphia. She trained at the Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership to become a certified Mindful Outdoor Guide and studied at the Gestalt Training Institute of Philadelphia. In other lives she’s been a Forest Kindergarten teacher and a land trust employee. Currently she loves offering in-person\, virtual\, and walk-and-talk therapy out in nature\, training therapists and counselors about mindfulness in nature\, supervising MSW students at SUNY Albany\, and guiding Mindful Nature Walks and events throughout the area. \nFrom Molly: “What we will do with our time together starts with the question: What’s an early memory of being connected with the natural world? Some have shared feeling joyous and free. Others say they’ve experienced curiosity and vitality. Yet most admit losing that connection over the years. In times of high stress\, loneliness\, despair\, and endless screen time\, we can connect to the natural world for restoration\, wellness\, and belonging. Studies show that time in nature can reduce anxiety\, depression\, attentional difficulties\, and loneliness. It can improve creativity\, memory\, and the immune system while restoring an embodied sense of awe. My deepest wish is for us all to remember our place in the family of nature\, recalling we are always knitted into a reciprocal web of life and worth. In our practice together\, we will take a breath\, open our senses\, let go of all but the present moment\, and saunter slowly through the woods with fresh eyes.” \n$20 for Schuylkill Center Members\n$30 for Non-Members \nLearn more about becoming a Schuylkill Center Member. \nSign Up
