Then join us for a variety of stewardship projects!\nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities:\n• Trail work: carrying and using long-handled tools\, moving large rocks\n• Drain-clearing: carrying and using long handled tools\n• Planting: bending over\, crouching/squatting\, carrying up to 20 lbs\n• Invasive plant removal: bending over\, using long handled tools\n• Litter clean-up\n• Repetitive motions\nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants\, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email the day before the event. DESCRIPTION:Clinic Cleaners are volunteers who help us maintain a neat and tidy space for our patients at the Wildlife Clinic. \nWildlife rehabilitation can be messy work\, and volunteers foster a healthy environment by assisting with laundry\, sweeping floors\, and cleaning the lobby. This allows our expert staff to focus more time on caring for the thousands of animals that the Wildlife Clinic cares for every year. \nRegistration Required \nCleaning materials and personal protective equipment\, such as gloves and masks\, are provided. Volunteers should wear clothing they don’t mind getting dirty (yes\, that includes animal waste) and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Clinic Cleaners will not be working directly with animals or have access to patient areas. Clinic Cleaners must be at least 18 years old to sign up. Due to limited space\, we are unable to accept walk-ins.

DESCRIPTION:The Weekend Warm-up Hike returns to Tyler’s hiking trails! Start your Friday off right with a brisk\, one-hour hike through Tyler’s gardens and natural areas beyond the deer exclusion fence. This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout\, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However\, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers. Be prepared for a mix of asphalt\, gravel and natural surfaces. Hikes are not suitable for those with limited mobility. We recommend bringing along a reusable water bottle. Please make sure to pre-register\, as this program takes place outside our normal operating hours.\nGATES OPEN AT 8 am. Starting at Germantown Avenue\, we’ll see the ruins of the barn of Buttercup Cottage and where Lake Surprise once was. We’ll take note of what some of our favorite and least favorite plants look like in late autumn as we hike ~4-4.25 miles. We’ll be sure to point out two interesting tulip trees on our route! Some of the trails are rocky\, so come prepared in sturdy\, close-toed shoes.\nChildren 12 years of age and older are welcome to attend when accompanied by an adult\, but please\, no dogs except for service animals.\nDistance: 4-4.25 miles\nLevel: Difficult (many inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. She has dual bachelor’s degrees from the University of Delaware in Environmental Science and Wildlife Ecology. She is a Delaware Master Naturalist and Vice Chair of the Delaware Invasive Species Council. She’s an avid contributor to the Delaware Native Plant Identification and Exchange group on Facebook. Her passion is sharing the joy of nature and native gardening with others.
