So\, let’s go through our closets and put them to some good use!\n \nDuring this workshop we’ll provide all of the tools to make a tote bag from your old band tees. All you have to bring is your tee***! (Safe space – no judgement here…my first concert was Backstreet Boys…) You will be using fabric scissors\, Iron\, and Sewing machine for this class. Experience with a sewing machine is suggested.  \n*** T-shirt Graphic should be no larger than 16”x16” \nWhen registering\, if it’s within your means\, please consider a donation when registering through Eventbrite to help us cover the expenses of this workshop. DESCRIPTION:Come out and use our crafty space to make some stuff. Use our tools or your own and come craft with other creatives.\n\n\nThe Craft Coven is now offering Open Studio time at our Cherry Street Pier studio space. We have this space\, so we want to see it getting used! Through workshop sales\, donations and volunteer artists we are able to occupy a space on the second floor of The Cherry Street Pier in studio 14. We’d love to see you come out and use our space and/or supplies to get your creative juices flowing 😀 Some sessions will be themed\, please note below schedule to be sure you are signing up for the right date! \nThe second Thursday of each month will be a collage focused open studio led by Jamie DeAngelis. Other crafts are also welcome. \nAny listed Friday will be hosted by Craft Coven CEO (Craft Experience Organizer): Cassie Jones \nGeneral Open Studios:The studio is setup with tables\, chairs\, temperature control\, and the basics of art supplies to get you going on a project if you need a little motivation. The space is also available to you if you’d like to show up with some headphones and just have a place to sit and get creative. All crafty mediums are accepted but please reach out ahead of time for anything that makes a substantial mess\, or requires special accommodations (ex. traditional clay will need access to water\, wood burning causes a lot of smoke etc.) Some of the supplies we have available all the time include: \n– paper\, scissors\, tape\, glues \n– prismacolor pencils \n– watercolor paints \n– markers \n– computer paper \n– various colors of sculpey (and the toaster oven to bake your tiny creations) \n– fabrics \n– magazines for collaging \n– 18″ standing embroidery hoop \n– sewing machine* \n– cover stitch machine* \n– white threaded serger* \n– table loom* \n– ball winder* \n– skein umbrella* \n– 2`1″ wide printing press* \n– 9×17″ paper/book press* \n*Any specialized tools should be checked out in advance. Please reserve a spot and email PhillyCraftCoven@gmail.com or DM through IG: CassiesCraftCoven with specifics of what tools you would like to use during open studio. \nWe will have an artist on site to guide you about art making processes if you need it. We will also have the supply library available\, and will accept donations during this time. \nThe Location: This event is held at The Craft Coven’s space in Cherry Street Pier. We are located in studio 14 on the second floor. Unfortunately there are no elevators to the second floor. You will need to go up a very large flight of steps to get to the second floor. The space is heated/cooled inside the pier and there are bathrooms located on site (on the first floor). There are often installations and events around the pier\, and the larger space is open from 12-8pm everyday. \nP LEASE SIGN UP IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND. In the event that there are no advance sign ups we reserve the right to cancel a session of open studio. If we decide to cancel we will remove ticket access 24 hours before the event. If no one shows up for a session by 1 hour in\, we reserve the right to close the studio early. If you plan to come and will be late please email Cassie@CassieJones.com ahead of time so that we can accommodate. \nIn an attempt to limit no shows we have added a mandatory $5 donation for all tickets\, and limited to 2 per reservation. If you attend open studio you can request a refund and we will send the $5 back to you as a credit towards any of our future events\, or know that your donation goes directly to supporting the Coven in keeping a physical space at Cherry Street Pier. \nThis event is for mostly self guided adults/artists to use our space. Got tangled jewelry\, IKEA furniture that needs assembling\, or a vacuum cleaner that’s on the fritz? Sit down with one of their volunteers and they’ll help you hands-on with fixing it. While they do have some limits\, they encourage a read of their ground rules before bringing in your items. \nThis independent collective of talented volunteers from differing technical backgrounds is committed to the idea of “repair rather than replace.” These volunteer Fixers do not simply fix items for people but rather work with them to teach the troubleshooting and repair process. All supplies are provided; just bring your creative spirit!\nThis program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Friday\, April 12\, 2024.\nAbout the Instructors:\nNicole DeLizzio is the Arborist Assistant at the Mt. Cuba Center. She holds a BS in Agriculture and Natural Resources with a minor in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Delaware. Nicole is an ISA certified arborist. In addition to co-teaching the Ecological Arboriculture course with the rest of the arboriculture team\, she can be found sharing her combined passion for trees and art in pyrography\, or the art of woodburning. One of Nicole’s favorite ecological gardening concepts is to allow trees to decay in place\, when it is safe to do so\, to be utilized by wildlife.\nMaria Phillips is an artist and art therapist from Philadelphia\, PA with a background in woodworking and printmaking. After a hiking trip to Glen Onoko Falls\, she began wood-burning wildflowers and ferns. Using nature as the canvas\, she hopes to encourage others to reflect on their relationship with the environment.

SUMMARY:Community Hero Action Group Hosts Fourth Annual  Community Health Conference and Festival
DESCRIPTION:Community Hero Action Group (CHAG) will host its fourth annual Pennsylvania Black Health Matters Conference. This free four-day-long hybrid conference will hold a festival on Saturday\, April 13th\, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. EST held at Vernon Park\, 5800 Germantown Avenue\, Philadelphia\, PA\, with live entertainment\, dancing\, food\, giveaways\, health demos\, a voting lounge\, the “Woosah” area\, and more. The remaining days of the conference include a line-up of prominent speakers such as Senator Art Haywood\, Commissioner Omar Sabir\, and Keisha Hudson\, Philadelphia Chief Defender. Daily topics span from health policy to chronic disease and the interrelatedness of social issues. \nThe 2024 PA Black Health Matters Conference theme\, “Release and Restore\,” centers around mental wellness. In a world filled with stress and anxiety\, this year’s conference aims to guide attendees in the art of releasing emotional burdens and negative thought patterns that may be holding them back. DESCRIPTION:Meet at Houston Playground\nWe’ve learned so much from our Wellness Consultant\, Brandi Aulston especially that healing and wellness aren’t linear\, it’s a continued investment in ourselves. We’re happy to invite you to a family-friendly hike led by Brandi and her organization\, Hike+Heal where you can focus on you and your loved one’s wellness. This hike is a great chance to connect with the outdoors and your community! Together we’ll engage in interactive exercises\, reflect and practice mindfulness and experience the beauty of the Wissahickon.\nBrandi Aulston\, MHA/MHE founder of Hike+Heal Wellness LLC\, is a wellness entrepreneur extremely dedicated to women’s overall wellness to help eliminate health disparities and increase diversity in the outdoor space for inner city women of color. Since 2019\, Hike+Heal has created a safe space for strong community connections for people who desire to prioritize their self-care while connecting together in a powerful and healing way in nature. Hike+Heal was one of nineteen winners of the 2021 Pennsylvania COVID-19 Champion awarded by the Pennsylvania Parks & Forests Foundation.\nPlease note: this event will be recorded. Please fill out the photo waiver here.\nIn order to attend participants must print and sign this waiver from Hike+Heal. Please bring it\, completed\, to the event. SUMMARY:Sankofa Community Farm Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers will work alongside Farm staff to support seasonal plantings\, harvesting\, weeding\, invasive species removal\, and orchard support. \nVolunteers will meet at the Sankofa Community Farm at 9:30 AM and be separated into groups and provided with instructions and safety protocols for the day. Out of respect and safety for our staff and others\, please arrive on time. \nPLEASE NOTE: Each adult must register individually in order to complete the waiver. Parents/guardians must complete registration for individuals 18 and under. \nRegistration full but would like to still participate? Please contact Kimani Keaton at kimani@bartramsgarden.org to be added to our waitlist. \nPlease also email Kimani immediately if you plan on cancelling your attendance\, so that we may make room for those on our waitlist. \nThank you! \nHealth reminders: We are in accordance with Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia’s current COVID-19 response levels.
