SUMMARY:Summer Creative Practice Series
DESCRIPTION:Join coven organizer Cassie Jones in an open studio session of discussion and crafty play. Different mediums each day\, & enjoy a free beer!\n\n\nCome by the coven studio at 10 North Third Street and join in on whatever craft I’ve got planned for the group. Throwback style to hosting events in my basement for years\, I get to choose the craft\, and you just show up! \nThis series will serve as a creative exploration project both for me\, and for anyone that chooses to come to multiple sessions. People often ask me how I’ve built up a collection of so many different skillsets in the craft and art world- this is how. I’ll be inviting you all into my studio to see how I work from one project to the next\, and how each of them are treated as a way to hone my artistic mind and keep the motivations flowing in a productive direction. \nEach session will begin with a circle discussion of what we’ve been processing in our art lately\, and where we’d like things to go next. We’ll trade feedback with anyone looking for insight on their work\, and each person will have an alotted time to speak -or not speak- After the discussion portion of our workshop I’ll introduce the skill for the day\, something different for each group. Some of the projects that are on the list for this summer are: \n-Puppet Building \n-Stop Animation \n-Gelli Printing \n-Cyanotypes \n-Accessory Design \nWe’ll make some things together and work open studio style. Feel free to bring your own projects and you have access to the tools on hand. Message if you’re looking for something specific like a sewing machine etc. \nBYO snacks\, beverages\, party favors etc. I’ll have beers available\, filtered water and a handful of tea varieties. \nAbout the Location: \nThe coven studio is located in the heart of Olde City in a below ground storefront. There are 10 steps down to get into the space\, and our ceilings are not very high. Anyone over 6’4″ will have watch their head until they have a seat. Any more questions about the space or accessibility-please reach out!

SUMMARY:Outdoors Online – Restoring Crum Creek
DESCRIPTION:Want to learn how we’re improving water quality and restoring ecosystems?  \nJoin Preserve Manager Mike Coll for an exciting webinar on the innovative deer enclosure fence at Hildacy Preserve and how it’s enhancing the water quality of Crum Creek\, a vital source of drinking water. Thanks to funding from AQUA\, this project focuses on revitalizing the floodplain to improve the health of our water resources.  \nDiscover how this initiative is creating a lush\, native planting area that slows and absorbs water runoff\, reducing harmful erosion and sedimentation. The exclosure fence also helps improve water quality by allowing native leaves to naturally filter the creek\, supporting macroinvertebrates that are essential for clean water.  \nBut that’s not all! Learn how this project is also sequestering carbon\, providing new habitats for floodplain species\, and supporting migrating wildlife. Plus\, it’s boosting native plant diversity\, which is crucial for pollinators and other vital insects.  \nDon’t miss out on this opportunity to learn how ecological restoration is benefiting both the environment and our water supply.  \nRegister for free or become a member to show your support for Natural Lands.

SUMMARY:LEGACY: A Community Mural Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Explore legacy through mural-making\, storytelling & bold color in Germantown with artist Diego Mendoza-Ramos. Art as memory\, power & protest\n\n\nRooted in Germantown’s layered history\, this workshop will explore personal and neighborhood legacies through collaborative mural-making by blending storytelling\, typography\, and public art in celebration of legacy as collective power.  Led by muralist Diego Mendoza-Ramos\, the session will center around the word LEGACY\, stenciled across a gridded mural inspired by quilts\, protest posters\, and early print blocks. \nParticipants will paint freely within and around this grid—mirroring the physical and symbolic fabric of Germantown—using bold color and shared memory. The final reveal will uncover clean type at the mural’s center\, paying homage to the neighborhood’s role in early American printing and visual activism. * \n \nThis workshop is part of a broader community series offered through the collaboration between Ourchive and visual artist Levester Williams and supported by Monument Lab. It aims to deeply engage the Germantown neighborhood around the powerful and resonant story of the late Hercules Posey\, George Washington’s enslaved cook who courageously escaped. Germantown\, known both for its painful legacy of slavery and its landmark role in America’s first recorded anti-slavery protest\, offers a potent space for exploring themes of historical preservation\, social justice\, and creative resistance. \n \nAt the heart of these events is the belief that individual narratives are powerful tools in safeguarding historical truth\, especially during a time when censorship and revisionist pressures threaten collective memory. Participants will not only create personal artifacts\, but also contribute to a collective effort to creatively preserve and honor untold stories that shape our communities. \n \nFree and open to all. Light refreshments provided. \nSpots are limited—please register in advance to reserve your place. \n \n*By attending this event\, I consent to OHCC/6S\, Monument Lab\, and Ourchive photographing or filming me and my guests\, and I authorize them to use these images for any lawful purpose\, including publicity and digital or print media\, with or without my name.

DESCRIPTION:Are you already gardening with native plants\, but want to learn how to convince others to do the same?\n\n\nTHURSDAY\, JULY 17 \nNative Plants—Spreading the Word Beyond the Choir \n7:00–8:30 PM \nMary Anne Borge\, Naturalist\, Author\, and Photographer \nSponsored by Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens + Tredyffrin Public Library’s Arbo-READ-um partnership \nRecent studies show bird populations have decreased almost 30% in the past 50 years. Insect populations have declined 40% worldwide in the past 40 years. Native plants are a key part of the solution to reversing this trend. Discover how Mary Anne Borge and her team at Lambertville Goes Wild transformed their town into a wildlife haven\, and how you can use their strategies to achieve this transformation in your own neighborhood or town. \nFree of charge | Virtual event (a Zoom link will be emailed to participants prior to lecture date) \nThis virtual lecture is a part of our Third Thursday Lecture series
