SUMMARY:Watershed Wellness Walks at Blue Bell Hill with Margaret Kinnevy & Lisa Kleiman
DESCRIPTION:Blue Bell Hill Parking Lot\nCome join us on a set of 2 Watershed Wellness Walks to deepen your connection to nature and to the Wissahickon Watershed. During our walk\, we will be guided into slowness\, stillness\, and quietude to better receive what is happening in the life around us and within.\nThis walk will be repeated at this location on April 19\, allowing us to see the dramatic change in scenery after the trees have leafed out.\nOur path will take us on trails of varied terrain\, connecting with nature through slow paced observation and sensory awareness intended to increase our appreciation of the environment and enhance our connection to nature.\nDuring the first hour of the walk\, we will explore deliberately\, covering only about 1 mile in distance. We will approach the area slowly and quietly\, tuning in to the environment with our senses; invitations and prompts will be offered to heighten our awareness of all the forest has to offer us. After we return to our starting point\, those interested can continue the experience with a more traditionally paced walk on different trails in the area\, allowing for observation and appreciation of another landscape and adding another hour and about 1.5 – 2 miles of distance.\nWhile the distance and elevation experienced on this hike are not difficult\, it’s important to be prepared with footwear appropriate for roots\, rocks\, dirt and possibly mud. Dress in layers for the weather\, and bring along water and snacks for one or two hours in the woods.\nDistance: ~1.5- 2 miles\nLevel: Moderate (some inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. We ask all event attendees to bring a mask and mask up if a distance of six feet cannot be maintained during the activity. If you or anyone in your household are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms\, please stay home. More information is at fow.org/covid-19.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Claire Brennan at brennan@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.\nRegister Below!

SUMMARY:THE MESSTHETICS AND JAMES BRANDON LEWIS
DESCRIPTION:Ars Nova Workshop presents punk-jazz power trio The Messthetics\, joined by fire-breathing saxophonist James Brandon Lewis\, at Solar Myth on Saturday\, March 30\, 2024. \nDrummer Brendan Canty and bassist Joe Lally were the rhythm section for the iconic D.C. punk band Fugazi from its inception in 1987 to its period of hiatus in 2002. They reunited for the first time to form The Messthetics with the eclectic guitar wizard Anthony Pirog. One half of the duo Janel & Anthony\, Pirog has emerged as a primary figure in the city’s out-music community. Together they’ve crafted a band approach dedicated to the live ideal\, where structure gives birth to improvisation. The New Yorker hailed their “ecstatic\, exploratory squall that lands between starry post-rock and heaving jazz fusion.” They’ll be joined by the acclaimed saxophonist James Brandon Lewis\, who has forged a singular sound encompassing ancient and future\, inside and outside\, density and openness\, church and street.
