SUMMARY:Guided Bike Tour of East Fairmount Park
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the history and hidden gems of East Fairmount Park on this guided bike tour.\n\nDATE\nSunday\, August 25 \n\n\n\nTIME\n9:30 am – 12:30 pm \n\n\n\nLOCATION\nLloyd Hall \n1 Boathouse Row\nPhiladelphia PA 19130 \n\nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and experienced bike tour guide Graham Robb on an eight-mile\, all-levels bike ride of East Fairmount Park. \nThe guided bike ride will highlight the history\, hidden gems\, and stories of interesting places in East Fairmount Park. Stops include the birthplace of the park at Lemon Hill Mansion\, Sedgeley Porter’s House — a little-known or seen house that is the first Gothic Revival building in the US\, Hatfield House\, John Coltrane’s House\, the Discovery Center\, Smith Playhouse\, as well as many of the park’s beautiful colonial-era mansions. Graham is a great storyteller who will share many perspectives on our park’s past\, present\, and future. \nINSTRUCTOR BIO: Graham Robb is a “retired” lawyer who enjoys biking\, hiking\, gardening and learning anything new.  When he is not officiating high school sports he volunteers much of his time with various organizations including Habitat for Humanity for whom he leads teams of volunteers on builds around the world.  A lifelong resident of Philadelphia\, Graham is something of a history and genealogy buff – having traced his Philadelphia ancestors back to the 1680s – and loves sharing past and current stories about his favorite city. \nTICKET PRICE: $15 \n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO: \n\nThe bike ride is roughly eight miles (moderate exertion). Most of the ride is flat; however\, there will be some hilly sections.\nThis event is BYOB….as in\, bring your own bike (and helmet!). No bike? No problem! We’re meeting right next to Wheel Fun Bike Rentals.\nEveryone must wear a helmet at all times. Riders who arrive without a helmet will not be permitted to join the tour.\nAppropriate for adults and families with children ages 14 and up. Minors must be registered and accompanied by an adult.\nPlease dress according to weather conditions.\nPlease bring your own water and snack (drinking water is not available in the park).\nThere are bathrooms available at the start/end of the tour but not in the middle so please plan accordingly.\nThe bike ride visits the places listed above but does not go inside.\nSpace is limited so please only register if you plan to attend.\n\n\nPARKING/GETTING THERE: There is plenty of free parking in the Lloyd Hall lot at Waterworks Drive. Additional limited parking can be found in the Lemon Hill area / Sedgley Drive\, and in the small lot at the far end of Boathouse Row. As always\, do not leave valuables in your car. If traveling by public transit\, the nearest station is at Art Museum Drive–a quarter-mile walk from the start. The nearest Indego bike station is at the art museum – also a quarter-mile bike from the start.

SUMMARY:Street Movies! with Urban Creators
DESCRIPTION:Free outdoor screening series bringing independent short films and videos to vibrant public spaces throughout Philadelphia\n\n\nHosted by Urban Creators\, join us for a screening and community-led discussion showcasing empowering stories with family\, fantasy\, music\, and unity at the core. \n7:30pm – Live Performance \n7:45pm – 9:30pm Film Program & Discussion \nFilm Program: \n\nDear Philadelphia (Dir. Renee Maria Osubu / USA / 2021 / 27:48 Minutes): With the help of their family\, friends\, and faith\, three fathers unravel the incomparable partnership of forgiveness and community in North Philadelphia.\nThe Love Machine (Dir. Jasmine Lynea / USA / 2022 / 9:45 Minutes): After successfully building a time machine that uses love to help heal and replace harmful childhood memories\, a teenage scientist/influencer puts his new invention to the test to challenge intergenerational trauma.\nDon’t Go Tellin’ Your Momma (Dir. Topaz Jones & rubberband. / USA / 2021 / 34:32 minutes): The Black ABCs were once taught across the United States. Created in 1970 by two Chicago teachers and the Society for Visual Education\, the cards and posters linked the 26 letters of the alphabet with language and imagery that reflected the lives of Black children. This forward-thinking educational tool was designed to empower Black youth\, who would finally see their community reflected in teaching materials\, which had historically been dominated by white faces. For musician Topaz Jones\, the Black ABCs served as an inspiration to explore his own coming of age in Montclair\, N.J. In the Sundance Film Festival winner “Don’t Go Tellin’ Your Momma\,” Jones and rubberband. take viewers on a visual and musical journey through Jones’s education on his own Black identity. Jones’s personal update to each letter of the alphabet continues the tradition of documenting Black life as valuable.\n\nFor over two decades now\, Street Movies! has been a great way for people to gather together\, engage with independent film\, and foster discussion around the cultural histories of their neighborhood and issues affecting their communities. All screenings are free\, open to the public\, and family-friendly.
