SUMMARY:Ed Bradley Tribute Mural Paint Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us in recreating a beloved mural tribute to West Philadelphia's Ed Bradley\, award-winning correspondent for CBS News’ "60 Minutes."\n\n\nCome celebrate what would have been Bradley’s 85th birthday surrounded by neighbors and friends. Enjoy cake and other food and beverages as you paint. \nBradley was first honored with Ed Bradley: Curious\, Relentless\, Timeless in 2018\, celebrating his 26 years as a correspondent on CBS News’ “60 Minutes.” After new construction obscured the original artwork\, artist Ernel Martinez collaborated with the Ed Bradley Family Foundation to bring the mural back into view on a new wall at North 44th Street & Parrish Street. \nBradley\, who passed away in 2006\, was the first Black television correspondent to cover the White House and the recipient of dozens of prestigious journalism awards\, including Emmys\, Duponts\, Peabodys\, and both the George Polk and Paul White awards. He was injured in Cambodia as a war correspondent\, and later anchored his own broadcast\, “CBS Sunday Night News with Ed Bradley.” \nPhoto credit: Ed Bradley: Curious\, Relentless\, Tireless dedication\, June 16\, 2018. SUMMARY:Pages of Pride: Junk Journal Workshop with Kyra Pope
DESCRIPTION:Pages of Pride: Junk Journal Workshop with Kyra Pope\n\n\nIn this activity\, led by mixed media artist Kyra Pope\, participants are invited to decorate the cover of their own handmade junk journal using a wide range of recycled and collage materials. These journals serve as a personal space to explore joy\, identity\, and self-expression! \nThis activity celebrates Black creativity\, hair empowerment\, and affirmation\, encouraging everyone to experiment with layering\, color\, words\, and texture. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s expression. \nNo experience is needed! If you can tear paper and place a sticker\, you can create something beautiful. \nParticipants can take home their journal to continue exploring their voice\, story\, or simply to collect thoughts\, memories\, or dreams. \nWhat to expect: \n\nNo experience needed\nEngaging and communal space\nTake home a custom journal!\n\nAbout the Artist: \nKyra Pope\, a multidisciplinary artist\, fine art student\, and hairstylist explores themes of identity\, faith\, and transformation in her art\, using acrylics\, oils\, and collage. She often creates intimate\, story-driven pieces that reflect her lived experiences as a Black Woman; her practice is rooted in personal narrative. Kyra is a firm believer of the need and right of expression\, so as a passionate artist\, she strives to build community through art\, as well as create a space for underrepresented voices. Much of her work is centered around empowerment and the language of adornment; treating the creative process as both an archive and an offering. \n“I’m constantly inspired and grounded by the voices\, hands\, and stories that show up in shared spaces like this.” \nThis workshop is offered as part of ongoing creative programming for the Lansdowne community in an LEDC-associated space\, supporting artists who want to try something new in a relaxed\, collaborative environment. \nAges:\nRecommended for ages 10+\, with anyone age 10 – 16 required to have an accompanying adult present. Our goal for this time is to have an intergenerational conversation where the community can discuss their differing and shared experiences. \n—— \nParking:\n\nStreet Parking is metered.\nThere is ample street parking on Baltimore Ave. The Highland Avenue parking lot (18 N Highland Ave.) is brightly lit and half a block away.\n\nFirst Floor Accessibility\n\nInclusive Design: Our first floor is designed to be inclusive and ensure accessibility for all.\nApproachable Entrance: Our entrance is approachable to all who enter\, providing ease of access for everyone.\nAccessible Restroom: We offer an accessible gender-neutral bathroom for the convenience of all visitors.\nWide Hallways: Our hallway is wide enough to accommodate wheelchair users\, ensuring smooth and easy navigation.

SUMMARY:Fridays in the Field
DESCRIPTION:Practice observation and nature identification in the Wagner's Teaching Garden!\n\n\nThe Wagner’s Teaching Garden is our most valuable classroom. Not only is our green space full of pollinator gardens\, but it is also a certified Wildlife Habitat\, Bird Habitat\, and Monarch Waystation—our milkweed plants provide valuable nutrients for Monarch butterflies during their cross continental migration. \nBeginning Friday\, April 10th\, the Wagner Teaching Garden will be open for independent educational exploration every Friday from 1 – 3:00pm. \nVisitors of all ages may borrow hand lenses for close observation of our urban ecosystem\, use nature guides to help identify the different animals\, trees\, and rocks found in our yard\, or take time to relax in the shade and draw from nature. Wagner staff will be available to facilitate use of materials\, but Fridays in the Field is a mostly unguided opportunity to experience the Wagner Teaching Garden. \nVisitors looking to attend Fridays in the Field must enter the museum through the front entrance on Montgomery street and check in with the front desk. Visitors who walk-in and visitors who preregister\, here or through the 2026 Visit the Wagner Eventbrite\, will have full access to the museum and access to the yard from 1pm – 3:00pm on Fridays. \n \n\n\n\n \nThings to Know Before Your Visit\n• Walk-in visitors are welcome. Advance registration is appreciated and will speed up your entry to the museum. \n• There is no coat check or place to stow personal items – please travel light. \n• The museum is located on the second floor of the building. There are 5 steps at the entryway and a flight of stairs to access the museum. It is not wheelchair accessible. \n• To protect the specimens and our historic interiors\, photography is not allowed in the museum. Open containers of food and drink are not permitted in the building. \n•The Institute does not have a parking lot. Street parking on Montgomery Avenue and 17th Street is free. Today\, the Wagner offers more programs to more people than ever before! Your support helps us provide free education\, not only through the museum\, but through a wide range of courses\, lectures\, field trips\, and children’s science programs. Donations also assist us in caring for the museum and library collections and in preserving our wonderful building\, which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990. To learn more about what we do please visit our website. \n \nRegistration Information\nIn keeping with its original charter\, admission is free—donations are suggested to ensure the future and quality of Wagner’s free education programs and to preserve its National Landmark building and collections. \nSuggested Donations \n$25/Family \n$10/adult \n$5/student \n$0 – Wagner members \nFor any questions\, please email communications@wagnerfreeinstitute.org or call 215-763-6529 x17. \nIf you would like to check your membership status or become a member\, please email AbigailC@wagnerfreeinstitute.org or call 215-763-6529 x11.
