SUMMARY:Make Your Own Watercolors
DESCRIPTION:Using soil and natural materials we will make our own watercolor paints!\n\n\nI was shocked when I learned that acrylic and oil paints are made out of plastics. I knew there had to be a way to create paints that were conducive to my health and belief systems. I mean\, people did it before there were plastics\, right? So ten years ago\, I embarked on a journey to learn everything I could about pigments and dyes. And\, I want to share it with you. \nJoin me for the Make Your Own Watercolors workshop\, where we will learn how to make every color in the rainbow using soil\, insect based\, and plant pigments. I will offer up my personal watercolor recipe\, and teach you about all the tools and tricks I have collected along my journey. You will make your own watercolors\, name them\, and share them with classmates to build a full set of 6 or more colors. \nEveryone will leave with a small set of watercolors in an upcycled tin container. We’ll even create a one of a kind color guide for understanding your colors. \nYour Make Your Own Watercolors Workshop Ticket Includes:-2.5 hours of dedicated creative time with no interruptions-Invitation to a Facebook Group where we will share meditations\, inspiration\, artwork and feedback-Your own unique color guide for understanding the colors in your set-A graphic printout with my own personal recipe for watercolors-A new paintbrush– A small upcycled tin with your own set of bespoke watercolors made with love \nAbout your Instructor Heidi Lowell: \nI am a multi-disciplinary artist based in Austin\, Texas. I use site specific soils and other plant materials from sites around Texas and the country to produce my own paint. Through my work\, I nudge the viewer into a more intimate relationship with place. I believe making and teaching art is a spiritual practice. \nI also come with 20 years of experience in education\, starting out as a public school art teacher for about a decade. I now regularly teach at retreats\, museums\, and festivals around the United States. \nAbout the Location:This event is held at The Craft Coven’s space in Cherry Street Pier. We are located in studio 14 on the second floor. Unfortunately there are no elevators to the second floor. You will need to go up a very large flight of steps to get to the second floor. The space is heated/cooled inside the pier and there are bathrooms located on site (on the first floor). There are often installations and events around the pier\, and the larger space is open from 12-8pm everyday.

DESCRIPTION:FOR ALL AGES \nExplore Tyler’s bluebird boxes! \nFor more than fifty years\, volunteers at Tyler Arboretum have been monitoring the nesting activities of the Eastern Bluebird.  Please join us on this family-friendly tour to share this tradition.  We will walk the succession field and check on quite a few bluebird boxes.  We expect to see bluebirds\, active nests of bluebirds and other cavity-nesting birds\, eggs\, and young nestlings!  We will be walking on grassy fields\, so bug spray and close-toed shoes are recommended. \nPlease check in first at the Visitor Center patio window by 1 pm\, where you’ll then meet your tour guide. \nMembers: Adults: $5 each; Youth ages 3-17: $3 each (sign in for your discount!); children ages two and under are free. \nNon-members: $21 per adult; $13 per child ages 3-17; children ages two and under are free.  The non-member fee includes admission to Tyler for the day\, so stay as long as you’d like!  Children must be accompanied by an adult; the fee is for each adult and each child. \nGuest Pass Holders: $5 each (Please give the Visitor Center Associate your guest pass at check-in.) \nREGISTER HERE
