SUMMARY:Philadelphia Film Project Mural Paint Day
DESCRIPTION:Mural Arts\, BlackStar\, and PFS launched a new mural project celebrating Philly’s vibrant film community.\n\n\nIn 2023 talks between Mural Arts Philadelphia\, BlackStar Film Festival and the Philadelphia Film Center seeded an exciting new mural project celebrating the Philadelphia Film Community. To create the list of films and organizations featured\, a public survey asked Philadelphians which films\, and organizations impacted them the most. We also created an advisory panel made up of representatives from BlackStar Film Festival\, PhillyCAM\, Scribe Video Center\, Philadelphia Film and others to advance the work. The group met over the course of a year looking at survey responses\, selecting an artist and advancing the project. The result is a vibrant new mural designed by Marian Bailey that will adorn the Sansom Street side of the Philadelphia Film Center. As the film community is massive and has spanned many years\, the mural focuses on some of the key films and film related organizations that have impacted filmmaking\, film presentation and film-related training in Philadelphia. On April 12th\, please join us to help paint the mural!

SUMMARY:Self Care Sundays

Join us on Sundays at 11:00 AM for some time dedicated to self-care and relaxation. This event will take place at Black Lotus HHC at 206 Rittenhousetown Lane\, where you can unwind and focus on yourself. \nTake part in yoga sessions\, meditation exercises\, and mindfulness activities to rejuvenate your mind and body. Treat yourself to healthy snacks and refreshments while connecting with like-minded individuals. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to prioritize your well-being and practice self-love. See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane. SUMMARY:Building Community-Centered Practices
DESCRIPTION:Our next Creative Conversations will explore “Building Community-Centered Practices” with Jeannette Lloyd & Kathryn Pannepacker\n\n\nEvery quarter\, DVAA hosts Creative Conversations\, an event open to both our community and the general public. The objective of this program is to explore the nitty-gritty of professional development within artistic practice. \nThe next in our Creative Conversations series will explore “Building Community-Centered Practices” with prominent Philly Arts Leaders Jeannette Lloyd & Kathryn Pannepacker on Sunday\, April 13\, 12–2 PM. \nAs speaker Pannepacker states\, “Times are intense. Let’s take care of ourselves and one another!” In our volatile and unstable times community is the only thing we can rely on. In this thoughtful presentation and discussion\, we’ll explore how to meaningful build resilience and solidarity in Philly’s current arts landscape. \nJeanette Lloyd is a multi-disciplinary artist and creative producer that choreographs complex community and cultural projects with ease. She is kindred and servant of the underserved\, and thrives working behind the scenes to curate and amplify powerful experiences and marginalized voices. Her passion for art\, background in entertainment\, and professional experience in marketing and partnerships allows her to advise and collaborate with a diverse group of people. Jeanette currently works as the Director of Marketing for Asian Arts Initiative and advises many local individuals and collectives on artistic strategy. \n \nKathryn Pannepacker is a textile/visual/community artist living in Germantown/Philadelphia\, PA. She graduated from Penn State University back in the late 80’s with a major in English and a minor in art. Her studies continued with numerous intensive apprenticeships\, nationally and abroad. She has done many projects with Mural Arts Philadelphia and other organizations over the years with folks of all ages and backgrounds. \nKathryn exhibits locally\, nationally and internationally\, and has work in private and public collections. She balances her time doing studio work\, and art as harm reduction & wellness support with folks in active addiction\, many of whom are unsheltered in Kensington at the Sunshine House and Prevention Point Philadelphia. She believes that creating an environment of belonging\, meaning and purpose is a critical component for any wellness journey as the nation scrambles for solutions during an epidemic of addiction\, isolation and despair. \nKathryn has received numerous grants including The Leeway Foundation’s Transformation Award and The Pollination Project. Her work has been featured on the cover of AMERICAN CRAFT and in many other publications. She offers hands-on workshops and presentations about art and social change. \nKathryn is delighted and honored to be apart of this afternoon’s conversation … Da Vinci Art Alliance has a very special place in her heart\, as back in the mid 1990’s she helped to re-invigorate it from it’s once sleepy state. These Community Conversations here at DVAA are vital. May that the work we each do come from a heart-centered place. Times are intense. Let’s take care of ourselves and one another! \nLook for Kathryn’s solo exhibition in Sept./Oct. at William Way LGBT Community Center called “You are Welcome Here; I Saved A Chair for You.” \n \nAccessibility Information \nDVAA is a historic row home in the Bella Vista neighborhood. We are not yet wheelchair accessible; Da Vinci is a three floor gallery with narrow staircases. (We are working towards becoming ADA accessible by 2027!) It is 5 steps up to the first floor level\, and 14 steps from the first to second floor\, where the gender-neutral bathroom is located. Da Vinci has masks and COVID tests available at our events. We can reserve seats for low-vision and Deaf and HoH community members as needed. DVAA exhibitions are free to visit and all of our programs are free or suggested donation. If food is being served at the event you are coming to\, please reach out to us about dietary restrictions. For information\, or to notify our team members of any needs prior to your visit\, please contact info@davinciartalliance.org.

SUMMARY:Death & Life at Mt. Moriah Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:Mount Moriah is the largest cemetery in Pennsylvania\, and home to some of our city’s finest grave architecture.\n\n\nMount Moriah is the largest cemetery in Pennsylvania\, and home to some of our city’s finest grave architecture. Almost every style of tomb can be found here\, from Egyptian Revival to Art Nouveau. Guests will learn about the role of cemeteries as a place for leisure in the Victorian era\, as well as the influence of the Freemasons. Part wilderness and part sculpture-garden\, this city of the dead is by turns eerie and poignant. Join Hidden City as we peel back the canopy and reveal the wonders below. \n \nIMPORTANT DETAILS \nWe’ll meet at the main gate\, where Kingsessing dead-ends at 62nd Street.***If you’re using Google Maps type in 6191 Kingsessing Avenue*** \nThis tour requires significant walking\, so practical shoes and water are a must. There are plenty of ticks\, especially as the weather warms\, so we recommend long pants\, socks\, and most of all a careful check of oneself after the tour is over. \nTour guide John Vidumsky has been exploring abandoned spaces for as long as he can remember.
