SUMMARY:Origins: The Lenape\, William Penn\, and the Colonists
DESCRIPTION:Lecture by Ellen Endslow from Chester County History Center\n\n\nAlliances and negotiations in the 1600s formed relationships between the indigenous Lenape and the Europeans who colonized what is now eastern Pennsylvania. Join us on May 8\, 2025 at 7 PM in the Historic Waynesborough Carriage House for a presentation by Ellen Endslow that examines how the mutual respect for self-determination\, shared land use\, and freedom shifted as colonial leadership changed and settlers increased in the early 1700s. The presentation also looks at some of the decisions leading to the removal of indigenous people from Pennsylvania in order to share some insights into the Lenape today. \n \nEllen Endslow has been the Director of Collections/Curator at Chester County History Center for more than 25 years. She is primarily responsible for the Museum collection but also oversees the Library and Photo Archives. She is appreciative of ongoing opportunities to learn directly from the Lenape\, scholars\, and museum colleagues about these people and events.

SUMMARY:Virtual Open House: Certificate in Ecological Horticulture
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to learn how to create and maintain landscapes that are grounded in ecological principles and practice? Taught by regional horticultural experts\, this classroom and field-based program is a series of 12 courses geared toward avid home gardeners and landscape professionals looking to develop a deeper understanding of sustainable landscape design and management. \nJoin us at our free Virtual Open House\, where you’ll be able to meet some of our certificate program staff and instructors\, ask questions\, and get answers! A Zoom link will be emailed to all registrants. \nThe Morris Arboretum & Gardens’ Certificate in Ecological Horticulture is self-paced and can be completed in one year of intensive learning or up to several years at a slower pace. The first four courses in the series will be offered in fall 2025. The certificate is unique in our ecological systems-based approach to landscape design and maintenance. Our program approaches each garden as a complex living system\, where plants\, soil\, water\, animals\, climate\, human activity\, and other elements interact with and influence each other. In hands-on and classroom instruction\, our program teaches design and stewardship strategies that address these relationships holistically rather than focusing on individual components in isolation. \nThe program will focus on our region here in Southeast Pennsylvania. Drawing from our deep expertise in this region’s ecology\, all instruction will speak to our local ecosystems. Here at the Morris we have a long history in the native plants of Pennsylvania — we have literally written THE book on this topic! Instructors in the Certificate Program will include Morris staff members as well as other local professionals that are regionally and nationally acclaimed in ecological horticulture.

SUMMARY:Interwoven by Agathe Bouton - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Agathe Bouton’s latest solo exhibition “Interwoven”.\n\n\nInterwoven explores the deep histories and shared traditions of textiles in Southeast Asia and Africa. Through her new series Les Bleus à l’Âme (Blues of the Soul)\, Bouton creates a textile-driven conversation\, weaving together personal experience\, cultural exchange\, and artistic experimentation. Inspired by her time in Myanmar\, Côte d’Ivoire\, and Senegal\, she reflects on the significance of indigo\, a color that transcends borders\, linking diverse weaving traditions and everyday rituals. \nBy cutting and weaving her monoprints into modular compositions\, Bouton blends contemporary techniques with echoes of traditional craftsmanship. Gold and silver leaf shimmer across her works\, evoking the gilded pagodas of Southeast Asia and the precious metals of African artistry. Her work is both a tribute to the women who preserve these centuries-old techniques and a call to appreciate the beauty of cultural diversity\, resilience\, and artistic heritage. \n \nOpening Reception:\nFriday\, May 9\, 6-8 p.m.\n \nMusic Performance\nwith Youba Cissokho:\n Sunday\, May 18\, 5-7 p.m \n\nClosing Reception + Artist Talk\n: Saturday\, May 31\, 6-8 p.m.\n \n \nMore events TBD\, check our website. \n\nchimaeragallery.com\n \n \n3502 Scotts Lane #2113\n \nPhiladelphia Pa 19129 \n\nhello@chimaeragallery.com
