DESCRIPTION:Meeting location TBD\nWould you like to be part of keeping Wissahickon Valley Park beautiful and sustainable? Then join us for a variety of stewardship projects!\nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities:\n• Trail work: carrying and using long-handled tools\, moving large rocks\n• Drain-clearing: carrying and using long handled tools\n• Planting: bending over\, crouching/squatting\, carrying up to 20 lbs\n• Invasive plant removal: bending over\, using long handled tools\n• Litter clean-up\n• Repetitive motions\nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants\, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email the day before the event. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the natural beauty of Mt. Cuba’s forests and meadows this fall and winter as you experience the change of seasons – from autumn’s foliage to winter’s serenity. Become familiar with our native flora as you improve your health and explore the extensive walking trails in our natural lands.\nEach walk will be different and will cover approximately 2.5 to 3 miles. Dress for the weather\, bring a water bottle\, and be prepared for hilly (sometimes steep) and uneven terrain.\nThis program takes place in person in Mt. Cuba Center natural lands on Three Thursdays: 10/3\, 10/10\, & 10/17 (Rain Date: Thursday\, October 24).\nAbout the Instructor:\nEileen Hazard\, community outreach coordinator at Mt. Cuba Center\, enjoys connecting people to nature through gardening and science. She earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Lafayette College and an MS in Water Resources from the University of Vermont. She has supplemented her degrees with plant-focused biology classes at West Chester University\, a PA Master Naturalist certification\, and an Ecological Gardening Certificate. Prior to joining Mt. Cuba Center in 2014\, Eileen worked in environmental consulting and education.

This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout\, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However\, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers. We hope to see some beautiful fall color during our walk. We’ll observe what our favorite plants look like this time of year and may even see some Osage oranges and a flowering native euonymus. Toleration is on our route along with some other points of historical interest.\nOur approximately 3.5-4 mile route includes some steep and rocky inclines and descents. Children 12 years of age and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult\, but please\, no dogs other than service animals.\nDistance: 3.5-4 miles\nLevel: Difficult (many inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Learn about the nocturnal animals that call our natural areas home and how to spot and listen for them once the sun goes down.
