SUMMARY:SPEAK UP for Parking-Protected Bike Lanes
DESCRIPTION:SPEAK UP for Parking-Protected Bike Lanes\n\nWhat do we want? Parking-protected bike lanes!\nWhen do want them? NOW!\n\nJoin the Bicycle Coalition and Families for Safe Streets Greater Philadelphia as we head back to Harrisburg on Tuesday\, June 4th to talk to elected officials about the benefits of Parking Protected Bike Lanes and why it’s urgent they be legalized across the commonwealth.\nCurrently\, PennDOT does not allow for the installation of parking-separated bike lanes on state-owned roads. Amending state legislation is an issue that the Bicycle Coalition\, the City of Philadelphia\, and our partners have been working on since the 2017-2018 legislative session. As an interim solution\, PennDOT has permitted a pilot program to demonstrate protected bike lanes on selected state roads in Philadelphia. An interim solution is not enough — we need this program to be made permanent.\nJoin us in calling on our state legislators to save lives by passing HB1283.\nAdditional information & sign-up available here.\nIf you can’t attend on June 4th\, you can still SPEAK UP — send a letter to your state legislators using our easy template: bit.ly/yes2ppbl

SUMMARY:TrailOff Story Walk on the Delaware South Trail: Appear to Me
DESCRIPTION:Local theater and game-making company Swim Pony will lead a FREE guided community walk of their TrailOff immersive audio story Appear to Me by author Eppchez Yo-Sí Yes. TrailOff is a groundbreaking app created by Swim Pony in partnership with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and the Circuit Trails Network that transforms nature trails into stories that one can walk into\, through the visions of incredible local BIPOC and LGBTQ+ authors. It uses the magic of GPS-triggered audio technology to create an experience that is personalized to the user. TrailOff is completely free to download and available on iPhone and Android. With stories located on trails across the greater Philadelphia region\, TrailOff is a new way to get connected to the outdoors. Featured in Best of Philly! \nEppchez Yo-Sí Yes brings the fullness of their musicianship\, movement training\, and designer’s mind to the urgent themes that imperil humanity. The story takes you on a journey that mashes together the past and present itinerant denizens of the Delaware River’s piers. Filled with a dreamy troubadour spirit\, rough songs and honest conversation swirl through these untold tales of the waterfront\, narrated by feral cats channeling the hobo poet W. H. Davies\, radical dock workers\, Lenape boaters\, cruisers\, fishing teens\, even talking litter\, each simply seeking a moment of respite. \nSwim Pony staff will meet audience members at the trail’s start at Pier 70 Blvd\, Philadelphia\, PA 19148 by Pier 68 near the South Philly Walmart and help everyone download the app onto their phones. The group will walk the trail\, listening to the story and traveling at their own pace. With location-specific audio technology\, the app syncs to their movement along the trail. They will regather at the trail’s end on the Washington Avenue Pier (aka Pier 53) to reflect on the experience\, discuss the story and hear about making-of details with Swim Pony staff and author Eppchez Yo-Sí Yes. \nTrailOff’s mission is to increase the diversity of nature trail users by featuring stories that are wide-ranging in genre – from coming-of-age to Afrofuturism\, poetry and horror – and bring the perspectives of extraordinary local BIPOC and LGBTQ+ authors to the Circuit Trails\, a network of free nature trails in the greater Philadelphia region. Even if you can’t attend the event\, TrailOff is free 24/7\, with 10 amazing stories available year round. \nLearn more about TrailOff at: https://trailoffquicklook.com/2024/03/04/appear-to-me-delaware-river-trail-south/

SUMMARY:Decades of Funding Trans Artists: Denise Brown\, Gabriel Foster & V Chaudry
DESCRIPTION:Two Decades of Funding Trans Artists: A Conversation with Denise Brown and Gabriel Foster\, moderated by V Varun Chaudry\n\n\nTwo Decades of Funding Trans Artists: A Conversation with Denise Brown and Gabriel Foster\, moderated by V Varun Chaudry \nJune 4 at 6 pm ET (via Zoom) \nJoin us for a conversation with Denise Brown\, Gabriel Foster and V Varun Chaudhry on funding transgender artists. In 2005\, the Leeway Foundation expanded its grant funding to artists who identified as trans. After almost twenty years\, we look back at Leeway’s decisions\, strategy\, processes\, and impact on philanthropy and nonprofits. The three will also discuss how this work evolved over the years\, what is still needed\, and what’s next. \n__________________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nDenise M. Brown (she/her) is a cultural organizer and strategist\, coach\, and facilitator who is passionate about using her skills and energies on creating\, supporting\, and illuminating work at the intersections of art\, culture and social justice and working intergenerationally to support the development of young leaders. She is the Executive Director of the Leeway Foundation\, an organization whose mission is to support women and trans* artists and cultural producers creating art for social change. For over 30+ years\, Denise has worked with cultural and social justice organizations\, individual donors\, and foundations like the ArtPlace/Philadelphia Assembly\, Grantmakers in the Arts\, Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia\, Rauschenberg Foundation\, and Surdna Foundation on program development and grantmaking strategies regionally and nationally. She currently serves on the boards of the Henrietta Wurts Memorial Fund of the Philadelphia Foundation and Scribe Video Center\, a Philadelphia-based media arts organization. \n*Leeway is a trans-affirming organization committed to gender self-determination\, and we use the term “trans” in its most inclusive sense\, as an umbrella term encompassing transsexual\, transgender\, genderqueer\, Two-Spirit people\, and anyone whose gender identity or gender expression is nonconforming and/or different from their gender assigned at birth. \n \nGabriel Foster is a black\, queer\, trans “momma’s boy\,” is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Trans Justice Funding Project. \nGabriel has had the opportunity to work with brilliant leaders\, mentors\, and community members while working at The American Friends Service Committee’s GLBTQ Youth Program and the Northwest Network of Bisexual\, Trans\, Lesbian\, and Gay Survivors of Abuse (WA) in Seattle\, WA; the Leeway Foundation in Philadelphia; SPARK Reproductive Justice Now in Atlanta\, GA and the Sylvia Rivera Law Project in New York. \nWhile always on a life learning curve\, Foster often finds himself daydreaming scheming about creative collaborations rooted in liberatory visions. And making really\, really hilarious memes. \n \nV Varun Chaudhry is a critical ethnographer with research investments in transgender studies\, queer of color critique\, and Black feminist theory. They are currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Women’s\, Gender\, and Sexuality Studies at Brandeis University and a Senior Fellow with the Center for Applied Transgender Studies. V’s academic research has been published or is forthcoming in GLQ\, Transgender Studies Quarterly\, Signs\, differences\, Feminist Anthropology\, and Feminist Theory. \nV is also the author of several reports and guides on LGBTQ and trans inclusion\, including Transforming Inclusion: An Organizational Guide (published by the Leeway Foundation in 2018)\, Out in Research: A Guide to LGBTQ Market Research (published by Suzy\, Inc. in 2021)\, Funding Trans Resilience (published by the Gender \nJustice Fund in Philadelphia in 2022)\, and a forthcoming ten-year retrospective from the Trans Justice Funding Project. V has also served as a racial and gender justice consultant for a number of nonprofit organizations\, including Transponder Eugene\, Girls Rock Philly\, and Bread and Roses Community Fund. \nV is currently working on their manuscript\, Transcraft: Pedagogies of World-Building\, which ethnographically maps the counterintuitive and strategic ways that trans and gender-nonconforming people of color and their allies world-build in\, through\, and against nonprofit and funding agencies in Philadelphia and the United States more broadly. V is the recipient of a Career Enhancement Fellowship from the Institute for Citizens and Scholars. \n \nThis event is co-sponsored by the Trans Justice Funding Project

We monitor our Eventbrite registrations closely. If you think you may have completed 10 sorting sessions and did not receive an invitation to sign up\, let us know at volunteer@fabscrap.org using the email you register for sessions with. \nPlease read below for additional information on volunteering\, including other changes at the FABSCRAP Philly warehouse due to COVID-19. \n— \nWhat to expect: \n\nWelcome: Intros and overview of FABSCRAP (10 minutes)\nTraining: Learn how FABSCRAP sorts fabric for recycling (15 minutes)\nSort: Sort through fabric samples and large pieces\, pulling out usable fabrics for reuse and removing hardware and paper from fabric swatches for recycling (~2.5 hours)\nShop for fabric! SUMMARY:Community Based Solar Solutions to Renewable Energy Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Solar energy is now more accessible and coming on line faster than ever before. Thanks to historic climate wins such as Biden’s Affordable Clean Energy Law\, more Pennsylvanians can access the benefits of a whole range of environmentally friendly upgrades. Through the Inflation Reduction Act you can now receive a 30% Federal Tax Credit for rooftop solar which is propelling this incredibly promising energy source ahead across the nation. However\, rooftop solar is an impractical option for many people\, including renters across Pennsylvania\, with renters accounting for nearly half of all households in Philadelphia. \nJoin Climate Action PA\, Philadelphia Solar Energy Association\, and VoteSolar (and more) to learn more about alternatives to rooftop solar\, so that all Pennsylvania residents can be a part of a sustainable solar future! Liz Robinson of PSEA will discuss these alternatives\, including community solar and community choice aggregation (CCA). Learn more about the Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standard (PRESS) legislation and the requirement for Pennsylvania to get 35% of its electricity from solar and other renewable energy sources. We will also hear from Elowyn Corby of VoteSolar Action Fund regarding organizing efforts to legalize community solar in Pennsylvania\, and implementation in surrounding states. An update will be provided on the Biden-Harris administration’s grant of 7 billion for the Solar for All campaign and what it means for low-income Pennsylvania residents! \nCosponsors: Conservation Voters of PA\, Vote Solar Action Fund\, Philadelphia Solar Energy Authority\, Climate Action Campaign\, Solarize Philly\, Sierra Club
