DESCRIPTION:See Passyunk Avenue reflected in a vibrant\, detailed new mosaic by Eric Okdeh!\n\n\nJoin Mural Arts Philadelphia\, the Philadelphia Parking Authority\, and the East Passyunk Business Association to dedicate Passyunk Passeggiata\, a new 120-foot mosaic artwork by Philadelphia artist Eric Okdeh. \nStretching across a low wall on Passyunk Avenue\, at the foot of Jared Bader’s East Passyunk Historical Street Scenes\, Passyunk Passeggiata celebrates the history\, character\, and everyday life of the avenue. \nWith 60+ murals in the city\, Okdeh has incorporated mosaic into murals for more than 20 years\, but this is only his second wall constructed entirely of glass. The result is a colorful\, detailed work filled with scenes to discover—from South Philly’s iconic Tofani doors to The Pythians\, one of the first African American baseball clubs in the country\, founded by civil rights activist Octavius V. Catto in 1866. \nEast Passyunk neighbors are especially invited to come celebrate this new addition to the neighborhood! Look closely\, and you’ll spot real storefronts\, street scenes\, and familiar faces the artist observed on the avenue.

Lunch will be available following the talk. \nThe twenty-first century has seen major transformations in the U.S. electricity sector—but while the use of coal power wanes and the need for renewable energy becomes more urgent\, financial actors maintain a complicating influence on the trajectory of energy transition. Brokers of Power identifies changing patterns of investment intertwined with the shift from state-regulated electricity monopolies to a market-driven price model and the embrace of wind and solar hookups to the grid. \nDrawing from case studies such as catastrophic Winter Storm Uri that hit Texas in 2021 and in-depth interviews with people working in the electricity and financial sectors\, Conor Harrison reveals how the various entanglements of private equity\, investment banking\, and financial modeling are shaping the future and raising the costs of this vital infrastructure. Today’s financial firms\, he shows\, are engaged in the electricity industry beyond matters of investment: they own electricity generation infrastructure\, trade electricity on markets\, capture federal renewable energy tax credits\, and advise on electricity firm operating strategy. \nLooking beyond technology and policy\, Harrison interrogates what it means to have powerful financial institutions as the primary agents of change in the fraught and ongoing energy transition. By the end of this workshop you’ll be an expert in all of the elements of making a handmade book. \nWe are making just one book\, and will dedicate the full three hours to this process. \nSpace is limited in our studio- we are able to accommodate 4 attendees. As always we are doing a costume contest – mushroom themed costumes are highly encouraged. We will provide index cards if you need them. If your dish contains wild mushrooms that you foraged\, please make sure that you had them properly identified\, and preferably retain pictures of the mushroom you cooked (on your phone\, etc).\nFrom 3:30 to 4:30 we will have a guided mushroom walk around the property. We will have a mushroom ID table so bring your recent finds for identification! We will talk about famous mysterious creatures such as Bigfoot\, Nessie\, the Jersey Devil\, and some lesser-known local monsters as we encounter ruins and travel through a shady little pine grove. Along the way\, we’ll work together to create legends and lore of a brand new Wissahickon creature. Costumes are highly recommended!\nPlease note that there will be a rocky stream crossing over the Cresheim Creek—sturdy shooes are a must!\nWell behaved dogs on leash are welcome.\nPreview our route on Komoot below.\nDistance: 2.5-3 miles\nAudience: Ages 12+\nParking and Transit: If you’re driving\, there is street parking along St. Martin’s Lane. Tours are available Thursdays through Sundays\, 12pm to 4pm\, beginning on the hour. The last tour of the day is at 3pm. Each tour is an hour-long experience\, led by a Cliveden Interpreter. Tours begin in the Cliveden Barn (located at 98 E. Cliveden Street\, 19119) followed by the grounds\, first and second floor of the House\, and our new exhibit\, Procuring Liberty in the Emerging Nation\, debuting in 2026. \nTours can be scheduled in advance through our website or in person during tour days. The construction of Cliveden occurred during this violent time. A growing household of over twenty people at Cliveden reshaped their identities and looked to retain or procure their liberty at a time when discussions of freedom and independence were in everyone’s thoughts. DESCRIPTION:No barriers to entry. All equipment provided!\n\n\n \nAll Ages Learn to Ride\n \nJoin us for a free All Ages Learn to Ride series for kids\, teens\, and adults who are ready to build confidence on two wheels. \nOur last session will run from Sunday\, 10/25/26\, 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM and includes 1 hour of guided instruction for each participant in a small-group format. Coaches will help riders work on the basics of balance\, braking\, starting\, stopping\, steering\, and building comfort on the bike. \nBikes and helmets will be provided. Registration is required so instruction groups can be planned and riders can be matched with the right bike size. Registration will ask for each participant’s name\, age\, and height. \n \nPresented in partnership by Riverfront North Partnership and YJR Outdoors.

DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Mt. Airy Avenue Trailhead (W Mt. Airy Ave and Mt. Airy Terrace)\nDistance: 2 miles\nDifficulty Level: Moderate (some inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nAudience: Ages 5+\nParking: There is plenty of street parking nearby on W Mt. Airy Avenue and Mt. Airy Terrace and a stop for Bus 53 on Sedgwick Street & Wayne Ave. See map for details.\nRestrooms: There will be a composting toilet available for use at Kitchen’s Lane.\nRain Date: November 1\nJoin Trail Ambassadors Doug Gibson\, Dan Hyman\, Courtney Malley\, Jill Curatolo\, and Peter Curatolo for a leisurely\, kids centered family-friendly loop hike in the Wissahickon\, paced to the age and abilities of participants. Starting at the Mt. Airy Trailhead\, we’ll head toward Frog Pond to talk about stormwater management and how frogs survive and thrive year round. We’ll continue along the White Trail to Kitchen’s Lane\, with stops to share the history of the mill\, bridge\, and surrounding landscape.\nThe hike will also pass through the Monastery grounds\, where we’ll see the historic house and barn and learn about the site’s origins. If we are lucky\, we will see some of the horses and donkeys that live there. Along the way\, children can participate in a nature scavenger hunt\, and we’ll pause to observe mosses\, fungi\, and plants we encounter. All children must be accompanied by an adult; no dogs except for service animals\, please.\nCheck out a preview of our hike on Komoot!  \nRegistration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks.
