SUMMARY:Meditation Mondays
DESCRIPTION:You are welcome here. We sit not to flee the world\, but to return to it softer\, sharper\, more present—together in the warmth of community.\n\n\nWith over twenty-five years of shared practice\, Mamalaika Hart and Noelle Warford invite you to gather in stillness at One Art Community Center in West Philly. \nEach week\, our community sits becomes a gentle return—to posture\, to silence\, to the rhythm of breath. Together\, we practice arriving in our bodies and the present moment\, meeting whatever arises with curiosity\, compassion\, and care. \nThis is an invitation to build sangha—a circle of practice where we show up for ourselves and for one another\, week after week. For those seeking a commitment to quiet the mind and sit with all that is present\, this is your place. \nWe sit together to sharpen our collective focus—to be fully here\, awake and embodied\, in a time that asks everything of us. \nBring a cushion if you like. No experience or equipment needed. Donations are welcome and help support this community space and the equipment provided.

SUMMARY:More Than Murals w/ Dominique Smack: Making Art Across Mediums
DESCRIPTION:Join us at W Philadelphia for happy hour and candid conversation with some of the city’s most exciting multi-hyphenate creatives.\n\n\nDuring this month’s installment of her dynamic speaking series\, Dominique Smack will host artists who are breaking boundaries across visuals\, music\, and performance. \nAbout Mural Than Murals\nMore Than Murals w/ Dominique Smack is a dynamic monthly speaking series presented by Mural Arts Philadelphia that brings the organization’s broader mission to life—demonstrating that Mural Arts is not only about public art\, but also about social justice\, restorative justice\, art education\, workforce development\, and deep community impact throughout Philadelphia. Through candid conversations with community leaders\, cultural changemakers\, program participants\, and local partners\, the series spotlights individuals whose lives and neighborhoods have been shaped by Mural Arts while reinforcing the importance of sustained investment in the organization’s transformative work. \nThe series is hosted on the 7th floor of W Philadelphia\, reimagining Philadelphia’s iconic First Fridays tradition through a vibrant blend of thought leadership\, culture\, and hospitality. Set across the hotel’s elevated social spaces\, each event will feature curated conversations hosted by Dominique Smack\, alongside happy hour\, live DJs\, artist showcases\, and creative networking opportunities. Aligning with the Mayor’s Ring It On 2026 campaign\, More Than Murals positions Center City as an active cultural destination while extending the legacy of First Fridays into a contemporary platform that merges public engagement\, nightlife\, and civic storytelling. Through strategic storytelling\, collaborative marketing\, and immersive live experiences\, this series serves as both a cultural activation and an advocacy platform for the More Than Murals campaign. \nCurated by Medina Oyefusi and Dominique Smack. \nPhoto caption: More Than Murals w/ Dominique Smack: Preserving Queer Art in Philadelphia\, June 5\, 2026. SUMMARY:Freedom Journeys Salon: Celebrating 250 Phenomenal Philadelphians
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Philly for Freedom Journeys Salon\, honoring 250 amazing locals making waves!\n\n\n \nAs the nation prepares to celebrate 250 years of independence\, there is a story that must be told—one that is too often overlooked\, undervalued\, and increasingly under threat. \nFrom the founding of the republic to the present day\, Black Philadelphians have been central to the building of this city\, this commonwealth\, and this country. Their contributions to science\, politics\, the arts\, faith\, education\, and community are woven into every block and boulevard of Philadelphia. The Semiquincentennial is a moment to reclaim and celebrate that legacy—on our own terms. \nJoin WURD Radio for the Freedom Journeys Salon\, a special community gathering celebrating the extraordinary people featured in our Freedom Journeys storytelling project—both past and present. This afternoon of live conversation\, reflection\, great food\, and music marks a powerful moment in WURD’s ongoing mission to honor 250 iconic African American Philadelphians from 1776 to 2026. We’re also debuting our newest podcast\, Freedom Journeys: Sacred Places\, exploring the historic spaces that anchor Black Philadelphia’s story. \nIf you’ve been struggling with how to mark the nation’s 250th—especially at a time when Black history\, culture and people are under threat—you MUST come celebrate with WURD. \nEvent Details:\n\nWhat:Freedom Journeys Salon: Celebrating 250 Phenomenal Philadelphians\nDate: July 3rd\nTime: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM\nLocation: The Love Lab | 932 Market Street\, Philadelphia\, PA\nIncludes: Live broadcast\, community conversation\, light fare\, DJ\, and the debut of the Freedom Journeys: Sacred Places podcast\n\nBroadcast: 96.1 FM / 900 AM | WURD Radio \nDigital: WURD Radio App | WURDRadio.com | Facebook Live @forWURD | Twitch @wurdradio

SUMMARY:Fridays in the Field
DESCRIPTION:Practice observation and nature identification in the Wagner's Teaching Garden!\n\n\nThe Wagner’s Teaching Garden is our most valuable classroom. Not only is our green space full of pollinator gardens\, but it is also a certified Wildlife Habitat\, Bird Habitat\, and Monarch Waystation—our milkweed plants provide valuable nutrients for Monarch butterflies during their cross continental migration. \nBeginning Friday\, April 10th\, the Wagner Teaching Garden will be open for independent educational exploration every Friday from 1 – 3:00pm. \nVisitors of all ages may borrow hand lenses for close observation of our urban ecosystem\, use nature guides to help identify the different animals\, trees\, and rocks found in our yard\, or take time to relax in the shade and draw from nature. Wagner staff will be available to facilitate use of materials\, but Fridays in the Field is a mostly unguided opportunity to experience the Wagner Teaching Garden. \nVisitors looking to attend Fridays in the Field must enter the museum through the front entrance on Montgomery street and check in with the front desk. Visitors who walk-in and visitors who preregister\, here or through the 2026 Visit the Wagner Eventbrite\, will have full access to the museum and access to the yard from 1pm – 3:00pm on Fridays. \n \n\n\n\n \nThings to Know Before Your Visit\n• Walk-in visitors are welcome. Advance registration is appreciated and will speed up your entry to the museum. \n• There is no coat check or place to stow personal items – please travel light. \n• The museum is located on the second floor of the building. There are 5 steps at the entryway and a flight of stairs to access the museum. It is not wheelchair accessible. \n• To protect the specimens and our historic interiors\, photography is not allowed in the museum. Open containers of food and drink are not permitted in the building. \n•The Institute does not have a parking lot. Street parking on Montgomery Avenue and 17th Street is free. There is 2-hour free parking on Bouvier Street and on many blocks near the Wagner and metered parking on Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The nearest parking garage is at the Liacouras Center on 15th Street and Montgomery Avenue. \n \nA dream that keeps growing… \nIn 1855\, William Wagner had a dream of providing free science education to anyone who wanted to learn\, regardless of background or ability to pay. Today\, the Wagner offers more programs to more people than ever before! Your support helps us provide free education\, not only through the museum\, but through a wide range of courses\, lectures\, field trips\, and children’s science programs. Donations also assist us in caring for the museum and library collections and in preserving our wonderful building\, which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990. To learn more about what we do please visit our website. \n \nRegistration Information\nIn keeping with its original charter\, admission is free—donations are suggested to ensure the future and quality of Wagner’s free education programs and to preserve its National Landmark building and collections. \nSuggested Donations \n$25/Family \n$10/adult \n$5/student \n$0 – Wagner members \nFor any questions\, please email communications@wagnerfreeinstitute.org or call 215-763-6529 x17. \nIf you would like to check your membership status or become a member\, please email AbigailC@wagnerfreeinstitute.org or call 215-763-6529 x11.
