SUMMARY:Full Moon Hike
DESCRIPTION:SUITABLE FOR ADULTS AND TEENS AGES 15-17\nExperience the magic of Tyler at night!\nJoin us for a hike under the light of the full moon. Hiking at night is a unique sensory experience. We will use our senses of hearing\, smell and touch to navigate the forest. Our experienced guides will share points of special interest and seasonal highlights. We hope to see and hear some of the nocturnal wildlife that make a home in Tyler’s natural areas!\nThis moderately paced hike is for adults and teens who are comfortable walking 3+ miles on rocky\, uneven terrain\, which may include some distances up and down steep trails. A registered adult must accompany teens. Bring a handheld flashlight (please note that cell phones are not an acceptable source of light) and wear sturdy hiking boots. Feel free to bring binoculars to observe the moon.\nThis program starts after Tyler’s closing hours. The gates will open 15 minutes before the program begins and close promptly 10 minutes after the start time\, so please be on time. Using your very own magnifying glass\, you’ll examine water samples up close and uncover the hidden world of tiny aquatic creatures. This leisurely-paced tour offers a fascinating glimpse into the plants and animals that thrive in and around the pond.\nAbout your guide: Sue Fredrick is a long-time Tyler volunteer and naturalist. This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout\, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However\, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers.\nPlease come prepared to walk on a mix of asphalt\, gravel\, and natural surfaces. Solid hiking shoes are a must\, and hiking poles are recommended. Hikes are not suitable for those with limited mobility. DESCRIPTION:The Weekend Warm-up Hike returns to Tyler’s hiking trails! Start your Friday off right with a brisk\, one-hour hike through Tyler’s gardens and natural areas beyond the deer exclusion fence. This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout\, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However\, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers.\nPlease come prepared to walk on a mix of asphalt\, gravel\, and natural surfaces. Solid hiking shoes are a must\, and hiking poles are recommended. Hikes are not suitable for those with limited mobility. Join Dr. Richard Brenner for a walk through the various eco-communities at Tyler. From seasonal wonders\, living fossils\, meadows\, watery locations\, geological treasures\, conservation areas\, and unexpected wildlife\, Richard will expertly guide you to prime areas for an experience you will remember. Expertise from others will often be on hand for a more in-depth exploration. These rambles are for those who have a love for nature\, exploring\, and learning. Travel over 260 years of history as we uncover how Tyler’s past continues to shape its present.\nAbout your guide: As an experienced docent\, Nancy Heinbaugh enjoys sharing many aspects of Tyler with others\, including the gardens\, collections\, and history. She is especially interested in explaining the relationships between plants and insects\, whether at the Pollinator Preserve\, on the trails or in one of the meadows.\nAn adult must accompany all youth. Although the focus is on plants\, we will talk about whatever we might see while we are out! Join us for a walk to discover who’s making all that noise and what’s hiding beneath the surface! We’ll be on the lookout for spring peepers\, wood frog egg masses\, and maybe even some surprising critters we didn’t expect to find.\nDress warmly and wear your boots so you can get close to the action (but not in the pools). Bug spray and light-colored clothing are recommended for tick detection. Who knows what amazing discoveries are waiting for us? Come find out!\nLooking to spark your child’s curiosity about the outdoors? Join us for Family Explorers: What Lives at the Arboretum. This program invites families to explore nature using their senses to uncover its secrets. Each child will receive a Tyler journal to document their discoveries\, and there will be time at the end to create entries. Bring your journal to future Family Explorers tours to capture all the amazing moments of the season. Let’s see what we can discover together!\nAbout your guide: Barbara Frank is a PA Master Naturalist\, a Tyler-trained docent\, a yoga teacher\, an artist\, and a true lover of nature in all of its manifestations. She leads tours for children and adults.\nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED\nThis program is best suited to elementary school children with accompanying adults; however\, families and siblings of any age are welcome. Check in at the Visitor Center\, where you’ll meet your guide. As with any walk on the Tyler trails\, sturdy shoes are suggested. PLEASE NOTE: Strollers may not be ideal on some of our trails. If you plan to bring an infant or young child\, we recommend a carrier. Weather or other factors may adjust the day’s topic\, but nature will always shine through! DESCRIPTION:The Weekend Warm-up Hike returns to Tyler’s hiking trails! Start your Friday off right with a brisk\, one-hour hike through Tyler’s gardens and natural areas beyond the deer exclusion fence. This hike is intended as a moderate cardio workout\, and we typically cover 2 1/2 to 3 miles in an hour. However\, we reserve the right to pause and enjoy whatever surprises nature offers.\nPlease come prepared to walk on a mix of asphalt\, gravel\, and natural surfaces. Solid hiking shoes are a must\, and hiking poles are recommended. Hikes are not suitable for those with limited mobility. Please make sure to pre-register\, as this program takes place outside our normal operating hours.\nGATES OPEN AT 7:45 am.
