SUMMARY:Back To My Roots: A Terrence L. Gore Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition can be viewed during open hours in the historic Bartram House as a part of the following events: Twilight in the Garden on 10/3\, Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration on  10/12\, and Harvest Fest on 10/19. \n  \n“A Creative Story of Survival \nMy family migrated here from Savannah\, GA in 1967. Terrence L. Gore\, a Geechee boy. \nWe moved into Bartram Village in 1971. \nBartram’s Garden was my backyard\, a clothes line\, fashion inspiration\, and sanctuary green space. \nIt was far too easy for me to squeeze my slight body through the fence that surrounded the Garden then and cross the tracks which separated the Village from the Garden. I would seek out and explore nature as a child to discover the world of natural wonders: seeds\, herbs\, fruits\, specimens\, animals\, the river\, and hills\, etc. \nI was amazed by John Bartram’s house\, which we could only visit from the outside when I was growing up. The architecture was astonishing. I wanted to know what was in such a structure that is so pristine – yet so private to me at times. For 50-plus years\, I have had the experience of this land. \nInterestingly enough\, John Bartram and I share so much in common; botanists and creators. Although our mediums and collections are different – our missions are similar. \nI use my art as a teaching tool\, telling stories of natural beauty; a survival tool as medicine for the soul. \nTwenty years ago\, upon my diagnosis with PML (Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy)\, and a month stay in the hospital\, I had to make a huge decision. HOW WAS I GOING TO LIVE MY LIFE – MOVING FORWARD? After I was discharged from the hospital I went back “home” to Bartram’s Garden to do some soul searching. \nIt was then that pieces of natural mediums caught my eye and began to speak to me. I started to create artworks from my soul; works that are difficult to describe at times where the completed images come alive and are seemingly looking right back at me. \nMost recently\, after two months and a few days in the hospital\, 6/15/2025 – 8/21/2025\, I am making a speedy recovery. I’m excited to share these works & my story and hope that it will bring the Garden alive for those who visit in new and wonderful ways.”

DESCRIPTION:Reduce\, reuse\, upcycle at Baby Gear Group’s Pop-Up Swaptacular! Out with the old\, in with the new baby clothes sizes Premie/Newborn-5T\, as well as maternity clothing/gear\, toys\, books\, and small baby gear items – no strollers\, pack-n-plays\, high chairs\, etc\, please. All clothing should be gently used to new\, and other items in working/sanitary condition. \nWe operate the swap on an honor system\, asking that families take roughly the amount of items that they brought with them. An exception to this is expecting families! Expecting families are invited to take as-needed\, especially as newborn items/clothing are so popular to pass along. \nAll leftover items are donated locally or recycled for future swaps.

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: Across the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway to America
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of the ASHM Balcony exhibit Across the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway to America. \nEnjoy traditional Norwegian recipes\, a special kransekake from MANDEL bakery\, and the opportunity to meet Susan Satkowski\, Honorary Consul General to Norway. \nAcross the Atlantic explores the trans-Atlantic journey of the first organized group of Norwegian immigrants to sail to the United States. Traveling aboard a small sloop called the Restauration\, the 1825 voyage took three months and challenged the strength and resolve of its passengers and crew from the very onset of the journey. The exhibit highlights the Sloopers’ experiences on the open sea and their eventual arrival in the United States. \nAcross the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway is part of Crossings Bicentennial in North America. The exhibit is made possible with support from the Sons of Norway Foundation. Additional support for the exhibition opening is provided by NorCham Philadelphia\, IK Start\, and Sons of Norway Restauration Lodge 3-555. \nThe exhibition event is free to the public\, with light refreshments served. Please RSVP to help us plan. https://www.americanswedish.org/events/balcony-exhibit-opening-across-atlantic-sloopers-and-first-organized-emigration-norway

SUMMARY:Nurture with Nature: Therapeutic Horticulture
DESCRIPTION:Working with the healing power of plants can help to decrease stress and anxiety\, process grief\, and improve overall well-being. Combining eco-mindfulness and creative activities\, the workshops in this series invite participants to learn about the uses and roles of specific native plants through the lens of natural cycles. \nWorkshops are led by Kate Irvine\, a licensed Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner and mixed media artist. Participants are welcome to attend one\, some\, or all four 2025 sessions. \nThis May 17th session will take place in Nature’s Sanctuary\, a green burial habitat at Laurel Hill West. We’ll utilize pressed flowers and collage to create take-home suncatchers
