SUMMARY:Now + Then Marketplace Make Love Market
DESCRIPTION:Now + Then is a curated market that happens ‘now and then’ featuring local artists\, artisans\, makers\, and resellers in Philly. The markets are always free to the public\, dog\, and kid friendly. Local event producer\, Steph Irwin\, started N+T Marketplace in 2021 after her time helping start Philly vintage institution Thunderbird Salvage. \nThe community of vendors & shoppers has grown exponentially in the last 5 years\, with monthly markets popping up everywhere from Fishtown to Love Park to Eakins Oval. Irwin sees the market as a way to stimulate local economy while informing the public about ecological impact of shopping within your community. \nLast year’s Make Love Market brought over 700 people out to the old Visitor Center at Love Park\, soon projected to be a restaurant\, but now home to Irwin’s light install. This is the third Make Love Market along with weddings on Valentine’s Day at Love Park. Vendors include a local caricature artist who will be onsite to paint couples\, sweet treats from NiniBsweets\, self-love gifts from Not a Bad Life and Tinder profile reviews from Free Dating Advice Philly.

SUMMARY:Scenic Schuylkill Century Recreational Bicycle Ride 2025 on 9/7
DESCRIPTION:Scenic Schuylkill Century Recreational Bicycle Ride 2025 on 9/7 \nEvent Website: www.ScenicCentury.org \nFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nHundreds of Cyclists to Ride in the Scenic Schuylkill Century Recreational Bicycle Ride on Sunday\, September 7\, 2025 \nEach year\, hundreds of cyclists take part in the Scenic Schuylkill Century\, a one-day recreational bike ride\, not a race. Routes offered from 21 to 101 miles through Philadelphia\, Montgomery\, and Chester Counties. The event\, organized by the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia (BCP)\, will be held on Sunday\, September 7\, 2025. \nThe fully supported ride starts and finishes at AIM Academy (1200 River Road\, Conshohocken)\, located directly on the Schuylkill River Trail across from the SEPTA Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail Miquon Station. \nRegistration begins at 6am. Rolloffs commence at 7am or slightly later at the choice of the riders. \nEvent Highlights\n• Seven routes to choose from: three mostly flat\, paved trail routes for casual riders; four longer\, more challenging road routes for experienced cyclists.\n• Rest stops at AIM Academy\, Lloyd Hall (No. 1 Boathouse Row)\, the Phoenixville YMCA\, and Ridge Fire Company in Spring City\, Chester County.\n• Coffee\, bagels\, and fresh fruit at the start; fresh fruit and homemade baked goods at all rest stops; a celebratory pizza party at the finish.\n• On-course support: SAG drivers patrolling the routes and marshals stationed at key locations.\n• Scenic highlights include:\n• Main Street Manayunk\, West Laurel Hill Cemetery and Arboretum\, MLK Drive\, Fairmount Park mansions\, the Philadelphia Museum of Art\, and six Schuylkill River crossings—including the Manayunk Viaduct and Strawberry Mansion Bridge.\n• Some of the most picturesque stretches of the Schuylkill River between Philadelphia and Phoenixville.\n• Valley Forge National Historical Park\, four historic covered bridges\, and Chester County’s scenic horse country with rolling hills above Phoenixville. \nRain or shine. Helmets are required. \nAbout the Event\nThe Scenic Schuylkill Century Recreational Bicycle Ride has been a Philadelphia cycling tradition for more than 25 years. This unique bicycle ride is organized by volunteers\, not by a for profit company. At the end of each year\, BCP donates event proceeds to local cycling-related organizations\, such as the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and Neighborhood Bike Works\, not to unrelated charities. \nAbout the Organizers\nThe Bicycle Club of Philadelphia (BCP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to promoting cycling in the greater Philadelphia area through a year-round calendar of daily rides\, seasonal events\, and educational programs. SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: Across the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway to America
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of the ASHM Balcony exhibit Across the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway to America. \nEnjoy traditional Norwegian recipes\, a special kransekake from MANDEL bakery\, and the opportunity to meet Susan Satkowski\, Honorary Consul General to Norway. \nAcross the Atlantic explores the trans-Atlantic journey of the first organized group of Norwegian immigrants to sail to the United States. Traveling aboard a small sloop called the Restauration\, the 1825 voyage took three months and challenged the strength and resolve of its passengers and crew from the very onset of the journey. The exhibit highlights the Sloopers’ experiences on the open sea and their eventual arrival in the United States. \nAcross the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway is part of Crossings Bicentennial in North America. The exhibit is made possible with support from the Sons of Norway Foundation. Additional support for the exhibition opening is provided by NorCham Philadelphia\, IK Start\, and Sons of Norway Restauration Lodge 3-555. \nThe exhibition event is free to the public\, with light refreshments served. SUMMARY:Girls' High Library Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Girls’ High Library was once a vibrant hub of learning\, creativity\, and inspiration. However\, it has been closed since 2013. Its research materials still include World Book Encyclopedias and a physical card catalog. There is no access to digital books\, electronic research materials\, periodicals\, and other critical technological resources to ensure that our students can excel and compete academically. Despite our school’s successes and strengths\, our students cannot effectively engage with their present education and prepare for life after graduation without a library and a technologically accessible resource center. \nThis fundraiser aims to restore the library to its former glory while incorporating modern resources to empower current and future students. We aim to provide a state-of-the-art library and resource center staffed with librarians so Girls’ High girls can thrive. And now\, there are three ways you can support\, including our Library Fundraiser planned for Sunday\, May 18th.

SUMMARY:Tavern Night
DESCRIPTION:Join Historic Rittenhouse Town for Tavern Night! Outside the church\, the tavern was the most important institution in most towns. Taverns were used for political assemblies\, markets\, and\, of course\, a place to enjoy a good meal and learn the news of the day. Come join us as the buildings and grounds of our historic 18th-century homestead are transformed into a tavern from the 1770s\, where the simple pleasures of good food\, drink\, and fellowship collide. \nTavern Night will feature an evening of storytelling and merriment\, complete with 18th-century beer and cocktails and hearth-cooked food prepared in our Bake House. Patrons will be encouraged to learn the popular parlor games (like whist\, shut-the-box\, and farkle) and join in toasts and popular songs of the day. \nRegister for early registration discount\, walk-ins are welcome! Be sure to look at the food and drink selections below.
