SUMMARY:Spring Equinox Tree Walk and Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Just as the spring equinox is a time of transition in nature\, it’s also an invitation to reflect on our own lives. As the sap is rising in trees and pushing out spring’s leaves and flowers\, we are also ready to emerge from winter with new energy. Join Arboretum Manager Aaron Greenberg and Energy Guide Asia IrgangLaden for an arboretum walk that looks at seasonal change amongst the trees\, as we are guided in short meditations that engage with balance\, transformation and emergence.

SUMMARY:Nurture with Nature – Rooted Rhythms: Seasonal Cycles & Botanical Clay Art
DESCRIPTION:Connect with the changing seasons in our “Nurture with Nature” series with a hands-on workshop that celebrates the earth’s quiet wisdom. \nAs autumn descends and plants begin their gentle journey inward\, we’ll explore the fascinating activity happening beneath the earth’s surface. Discover how plants meticulously prepare for the winter season and gain a deeper understanding of how to align ourselves with nature’s inherent cycles and rhythms. We’ll discuss the crucial role of healthy soil and focus on three magnificent native plants that are at their most vibrant as summer concludes\, beautifully marking the end of the growing cycle. \nInspired by these insights\, you’ll design your own unique clay trinket bowl. Using easy-to-work-with air clay\, you’ll embed and adorn your creation with a variety of beautiful found\, dried\, or pressed natural materials. This creative process allows you to fashion a personal keepsake that reflects the season’s beauty and the profound connection between us and the natural world. \nWorkshops are led by Kate Irvine\, a licensed Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner and mixed media artist. Participants are welcome to attend one\, some\, or all four 2025 sessions. \nThe August session will take place in Nature’s Sanctuary\, one of two green burial habitats at Laurel Hill West. \nWorking with the healing power of plants can help to decrease stress and anxiety\, process grief\, and improve overall well-being. Combining eco-mindfulness and creative activities\, the workshops in this series invite participants to learn about the uses and roles of specific native plants through the lens of natural cycles.

SUMMARY:Great Marsh Bat and Bug Night
DESCRIPTION:Get a taste of the night life at the Great Marsh. Insects such as moths and caddisflies wake up when the sun sets. And where there are insects\, other critters like bats show up to eat them. We will lure nocturnal insects in to observe and document them while we also keep track of and learn about bats flying above us. Bring a flashlight. Dress for buggy conditions and uneven natural surfaces. Please RSVP to lori@greatmarshinstitute.org. This will help us to organize and keep groups small. This event is free but donations are always welcome.
