SUMMARY:Earth Day Animal Spot-A-Thon at Independence Library
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to celebrate Earth Day with us by helping Snapshot Wisconsin monitor wildlife from anywhere in the world! In this hands-on event\, you’ll explore the trail camera photos. As a participant\, you will be looking at images to spot and classify the animals: what kind\, how many\, whether they are adults or young. Your contributions support a NASA-supported research project that tracks changes in wildlife distributions and abundances over time—critical data that informs wildlife management and conservation decisions.

SUMMARY:Earth Appreciation Day - Plants and Poetry
DESCRIPTION:Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic and Temple University at the Discovery Center as we work to maintain our habitats and conservation work for Earth Day! This site is home to over 170+ species of birds\, many species of insects and mammals\, and up to thousands of visitors per year. Our efforts can aid in the livelihood of these animals and stewardship for the people. We’ll focus on removing invasive bushes and plants around the trailhead so we can plant native shrubs in the future\, as well as fill our seed packets for the public seed library. \nAfterwards\, we open our space to an open stage for those to come and share their voice and appreciation of our earth and community. This can be through poetry\, stories and other types of offerings. This session will start with a brief\, Strawberry Mansion history lesson from our neighborhood and tour leader Judith. \nTime: 1-2:30pm Volunteer Engagement / 2:30-4pm Open Stage \nVolunteer and Open Stage sign up can be found here! https://forms.gle/WEattkr7Q34WwufS8 \nReach out to audubon@discoveryphila.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:Pop-Up Citizen Science Party at Independence National Historical Park
DESCRIPTION:Come have some fun Monday night (April 13) at Independence National Historical Park\, right near the Liberty Bell\, across from Independence Hall. Join Derrick Pitts\, Chief Astronomer at the Franklin Institute\, Darlene Cavalier\, Founder of SciStarter\, and regional amateur astronomers\, for a free nighttime stargazing event 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM\nIt’s a kick off to DarkSky Week and part of #CitizenScienceMonth. \nTelescopes\, astronomers\, and volunteers will be on hand to help you explore the night sky up close. Great date night in one of the most historic places in the country. \nFamily-fun activities\, giveaways\, and America 250 window clings will be distributed. \nTake part in simple activities that support real scientific research\, including measuring sky brightness to track light pollution and listening for migrating birds by identifying their nighttime calls. Scientists use this data to help birds reach their destinations safely and to better understand how light pollution affects people and wildlife. Learn about new bird-safe glass being installed around the Liberty Bell and Visitors Center to prevent bird-window collisions\, thanks to guidance from BirdSafePhilly. \nEvery activity counts toward the goal of 2.50 #MillionActsofScience in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. It is a chance to be part of something meaningful right where it all began. No RSVP needed. Just show up. 🙂 Rain date is April 14. \nPresented by SciStarter which connects millions of people around the world to scientists who need their help. DESCRIPTION:Working with the healing power of plants can help to decrease stress and anxiety\, process grief\, and improve overall well-being. Combining eco-mindfulness and creative activities\, the workshops in this series invite participants to learn about the uses and roles of specific native plants through the lens of natural cycles. \nWorkshops are led by Kate Irvine\, a licensed Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner and mixed media artist. Participants are welcome to attend one\, some\, or all four 2025 sessions. \nThis May 17th session will take place in Nature’s Sanctuary\, a green burial habitat at Laurel Hill West.
