SUMMARY:Second Saturday Guided Hike: Birding and Fair Amount Food Forest Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Fairmount Park Conservancy\, Fair Amount Food Forest\, and birding instructor Troy Bynum of TB Wildlife LLC for a guided bird walk and garden tour in East Fairmount Park.\n\nDate\nSaturday\, April 11 \n\n\n\nTime\n10:30 am – 12:30 pm \n\n\n\nLocation\nBoxers’ Trail Gateway \n33rd and West Dauphin Street\nPhiladelphia PA 19132 \n\n\n\nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy\, Fair Amount Food Forest\, and birding instructor Troy Bynum of TB Wildlife LLC for a guided bird walk and garden tour in East Fairmount Park on Saturday\, April 11 from 10:30 AM–12:30 PM. \nWe’ll start out by turning our eyes and ears to the sky as we look and listen for different birds near the Food Forest and along the park edge. This time of year\, Philly’s green spaces are bustling with migrants as well as year-round species. Then we’ll take a tour of the Fair Amount Food Forest\, a community-based\, publicly-accessible\, and educational food forest garden located outside of Woodford Mansion in Fairmount Park. \nABOUT FAIR AMOUNT FOOD FOREST: Fair Amount Food Forest is a community farm and educational garden on roughly two acres in East Fairmount Park\, whose landscape is diversely planted with fruits\, nuts\, berries\, herbs\, and vegetables. The landscape is intentionally planted to mimic a natural ecosystem\, provide healthy produce to residents and volunteers\, and serve as an educational public garden that benefits and engages its local community. \nThis hike is part of our Second Saturday Guided Hike Series. These hikes occur on the second Saturday of every month (April–November). Second Saturday hikes are at various locations. \nABOUT BIRDING INSTRUCTOR: Troy Bynum\, owner of TB Wildlife Photography LLC\, is not only an enthusiastic birder but also a passionate wildlife photographer from Philadelphia\, PA. Troy’s work focuses on capturing and showcasing the remarkable colors\, intricate patterns\, and rich textures that are abundant throughout the natural world.Troy’s work has been published by Discovery Warner Bros.\, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology\, Grid Magazine\, Northern Virginia Bird Alliance\, The Chestnut Hill Local\, and other regional publications. \nTroy is also an avid birder and experienced guide\, leading regional and international birding tours with Hillstar Nature\, Delmarva Birding Weekends\, DC Bird Alliance\, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay\, and TB Wildlife Photography LLC to name a few organizations. Troy also volunteers as Field Trip Chair for Liberty Bird Alliance where he coordinates and often leads domestic and international birding trips for the members. \nTroy currently lives in Montgomery County with his wife and daughter and loves spending his free time with them birding\, hiking\, biking\, or playing bird-themed board games. \nTICKETS: Free**\, donations appreciated. Registration is required. \n**We are proud to be able to offer these programs for free. However\, there is limited capacity for many programs. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows can take away tickets from others. We ask that you be mindful of this and please only register if you plan to attend. \n\nSPRING 2026 SECOND SATURDAY GUIDED HIKE SERIES SCHEDULE \nPlease continue to check back as additional topics will be added soon. \nApril 11: Birding + Fair Amount Food Forest Tour \nMay 9: Family Hike + BioBlitz with the Philadelphia Zoo \nJune 13: Tree Tour with Andrew Kirkpatrick \n\nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO: \n\nWe will meet at the Boxers’ Trail Gateway\, located at the corner of 33rd Street and West Dauphin Drive.\nUnlike other birding walks where we hike along trails\, most of the birding at this program will be done near the Food Forest’s garden\, with minimal walking (roughly one mile) to nearby locations to see more if needed.\nProgram is appropriate for adults and mature adolescents.\nPlease dress according to weather conditions and wear good walking shoes (boots/sneakers).\nBring water (drinking water is not available in the park) and a snack.\nUnfortunately\, there are no bathrooms along the hike route so please plan accordingly.\nPlease bring your own binoculars if you have them. If you do not have a pair\, please reach out to programs@myphillypark.org as we do have a limited number available to borrow.\nThis event is part of our Second Saturday Guided Hike Series. The hikes are not dependent on one another so feel free to sign up for one or for more than one!\nSpace is limited in this program and registration is required. If you cannot attend an event\, please show courtesy to fellow parkgoers and try to cancel your registration with advance notice so that someone else can participate.\nImportant pre-event information and any event updates are sent out via email. Please make sure the email address entered is correct and that you check it before coming out to the event.\n\n\nPARKING/GETTING THERE: We will meet at the Boxers’ Trail Gateway\, located at the corner of 33rd Street and West Dauphin Drive. There is plenty of free parking along West Dauphin Drive. As always\, never leave valuables in your car! If traveling by public transit\, the nearest stop is at 33rd and Dauphin Street – a 2-3 minute walk from the start. The nearest Indego bike station is also at 33rd and Dauphin. \n\nQUESTIONS? Please reach out to programs@myphillypark.org \nEnjoy our programs? Play it forward for Philly parks! Fairmount Park Conservancy’s Fair Play Campaign is creating healthy park infrastructure\, expanding people-centered programs\, and preparing our organization for the future. Learn more and get involved at fairplayphilly.org \n\n\n\nThis event will take place in light rain. In the event of heavy rain or other severe conditions\, the event will be canceled\, and attendees will be notified and eligible for a full refund.

SUMMARY:Cadence in the Clouds
DESCRIPTION:Cadence in the Clouds is an industry night that celebrates the dreamers in Philadelphia; the artists\, the creatives\, the entrepreneurs\, and the supporters of the arts. It is meant to show Philly artists that they don’t need to move out of the city to have a thriving career. Philly is a city rich in history\, and they should be a part of it given the necessary resources and connections. We aim to create the industry night that puts all of those people in one room\, while using all local Philadelphia businesses and artists\, to make a night where people connect and collaborate through the language of music. While patrons get to enjoy a live concert featuring music from DJ Bear One\, A.Rob\, and Sahlii\, their ticket also comes with artist bios\, raffles for a studio session and a photography/music video shoot\, live art\, complimentary snacks and sweets\, and so much more. \nThis particular concert is all about celebrating artists who are courageous enough to use their music and their art to make a change and stand up to what is going on in the world. It’s meant to show that while some pay punish you for speaking up\, we will highlight you\, putting you on our stage to amplify your voice. Every artist and business who is taking part has used their platform as a release\, and as a means to protest everything happening in the world. By purchasing tickets or any of the art that will be at the event\, you are directly putting money into the pockets of Black and Brown artists.

SUMMARY:20s and 30s Labor Day Weekend: 4.5-Mile Phoenixville 3-Ravine Hike
DESCRIPTION:The town of Phoenixville was just voted #1 Small Town in America by Travel/Leisure magazine because of its charming combination of restaurants\, breweries\, shops and nearby hiking/biking trails. It is located about 25 miles NW of Philadelphia. \nOur 4.5-mile hike starts just outside of Phoenixville at Tow Path Road\, Lock 60 parking lot in Mont Clare\, PA\, GPS coordinates 40.144980\, -75.508560. We will walk a short distance to the Neil Thorpe trail\, the first of 3 ravine trails that intersect the Schuylkill River trail. We will exit the Neil Thorpe trail via the Ravine #2 trail. Both trails are shady dirt paths that include short\, steep elevations\, a few small stream crossings and a ridge overlook of the Schuylkill River. \nWe will leave the ravine to visit the Schuylkill Valley Nature Center\, a small\, local animal sanctuary that contains wild and domesticated animals. There\, we can relax at a picnic table and enjoy snacks and conversation. From the nature center\, we will take another dirt path that leads to the paved\, Ravine 3 trail that returns us to the Schuylkill River trail. The hike has a total elevation of approx. 400ft. \nAfter the hike\, there is an optional lunch (with parking) at Lock 29 restaurant\, which is at the entrance to Tow Path Rd. \nThe trails may be muddy after a rain\, so wear sturdy walking shoes or boots (sandals are not recommended). Depending on the time of day\, it can be buggy. Consider wearing pants because we will hit patches of low overgrowth on the trails. Bring a hiking pole if you want additional support.
