SUMMARY:Stardust! Summer Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Stardust: It’s literal. It’s metaphorical. And when it touches us\, it’s magical!  \nSoaring trees. Tranquil vistas. Gardens full of natural beauty and life. Let the magic of Stoneleigh awe and inspire you as we gather for Stardust—Natural Lands’ annual summer celebration—to help raise awareness of and support for our mission.   \nThe secret to Stardust’s magic? Being outdoors on a beautiful summer evening—wrapped in a stunning conserved landscape—for cocktails\, a roving supper\, and much merriment under the stars.  \nBut the night-of experience is only part of the magic. Natural Lands’ regional mission to provide land for life and nature for all is vital. And your sponsorship or ticket purchase will advance our highest priorities for saving open space\, caring for nature\, and connecting people to the outdoors and each other.  \nSo\, join us for the fun of it all. But know that your support has an impact\, and together we will make a difference. Today. And forever.

SUMMARY:Annual Nesting Bird Census
DESCRIPTION:Grab binoculars and join us in counting birds at Mariton. Since 1981\, staff and volunteers have conducted an annual nesting bird census to count the number of species and individual birds breeding at this 200-acre preserve.   \nThe census results serve as an important tool to help assess habitat management strategies. Healthy habitats sustain various nesting species\, including flycatchers\, tanagers\, thrushes\, and warblers. Mariton’s woodlands are particularly important to birds like the Wood Thrush\, which requires large forests for nesting.   \nThe songbirds\, raptors\, waterfowl\, and shorebirds—about 300 recorded species—that rely on habitats under Natural Lands care are not just beautiful but also essential to the health of our planet. What’s more\, they are environmental indicators\, warning us of climate shifts and other ecosystem changes.   \nLearn more about what Natural Lands is doing for bird conservation. \n

SUMMARY:In Color Birding Book Club: Migrations
DESCRIPTION:Join our partners\, Philadelphia-based In Color Birding\, for their very first Book Club gathering\, where bird joy meets storytelling. \nOn Wednesday\, June 10th\, we are coming together at the Parkway Central Library to dive into Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy\, a powerful\, atmospheric novel that follows one woman’s journey alongside the last Arctic terns in a rapidly changing world. Whether you finished the book\, started it\, or are just curious\, you are welcome here. \nLike all of In Color Birding Club’s gatherings\, this space is rooted in community\, curiosity\, and connection. Come as you are. Bring your thoughts\, your questions\, your perspectives\, or just come to listen. \nNeed a copy of the book? You can borrow it through the Free Library or Libby\, grab one from your local bookstore\, or use Bookshop.org or Libro.fm\, and if cost is a barrier\, In Color Birding has you covered. \nWe’ll be gathering on the 4th floor in a conference room which holds 40 people comfortably. Small refreshments will be served. The space is fully accessible\, with elevator access and restrooms on the same floor. Easy to reach by SEPTA\, and parking support is available. \nCome build something new with us\, a space for stories\, reflection\, and community. \n \n register now

SUMMARY:Tunes on the Terrace: Arcana Music Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:featuring the works of Pauline Oliveros  \nIn collaboration with Bowerbird\, Stoneleigh is pleased to present the Arcana New Music Ensemble performing the music of Pauline Oliveros’s works The Well and The Gentle. Pauline Oliveros’ (1932-2016) life as a composer\, performer and humanitarian was about opening her own and others’ sensibilities to the universe and facets of sounds. Her career spanned fifty years of boundary dissolving music making. In the ’50s\, she was part of a circle of iconoclastic composers\, artists\, and poets gathered in San Francisco. In the ’60s\, she influenced American music profoundly through her work with improvisation\, meditation\, electronic music\, myth\, and ritual.    \nWritten between 1982-1983 and commissioned by Philadelphia’s Relâche Ensemble\, The Well and The Gentle are two of Oliveros’ Sonic Meditations – text-based\, intuitive pieces rooted in listening with minimal instructions.    \nGates open at 5:30 PM. Come early to picnic on the lawn or wander the summer garden. The concert begins at 7:00pm on the Pool House terrace. All tickets are general admission and include seating.  \nPlease note: the rain date for this event is Sunday\, June 14.  \nABOUT THE ARTISTS  \nPauline Oliveros’ (1932-2016) was the recipient of four Honorary Doctorates and among her many recent awards were the William Schuman Award for Lifetime Achievement\, Columbia University\, New York\, NY\, The Giga-Hertz-Award for Lifetime Achievement in Electronic Music from ZKM\, Center for Art and Media\, Karlsruhe\, Germany and The John Cage award from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts.  \nOliveros was Distinguished Research Professor of Music at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute\, Troy\, NY\, and Darius Milhaud Artist-in-Residence at Mills College. She founded “Deep Listening®\,” which came from her childhood fascination with sounds and from her works in concert music with composition\, improvisation and electro-acoustics. She described Deep Listening as a way of listening in every possible way to everything possible to hear no matter what you are doing. Such intense listening includes the sounds of daily life\, of nature\, of one’s own thoughts as well as musical sounds.  \n“Deep Listening is my life practice\,” Oliveros explained\, simply. Oliveros founded Deep Listening Institute\, formerly Pauline Oliveros Foundation\, now the Center for Deep Listening at Rensselaer\, Troy\, NY. Her creative work is currently disseminated through The Pauline Oliveros Trust and the Ministry of Maåt\, Inc.  \nArcana New Music Ensemble is a group of Philadelphia-based musicians dedicated to presenting interesting\, beautiful\, and unconventional music in interesting\, beautiful\, and unconventional places. Founded in 2015\, the chamber ensemble is dedicated to contemporary classical music performing works by living composers and to reexamine music from the past\, often focusing on composers whose work has been overlooked. A hallmark of Arcana’s programming is its frequent use of portrait concerts\, which allow the ensemble to explore a composer’s work in depth. These programs balance music by widely recognized composers with works by those who are less well known or historically underrepresented.
