Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres\, drinks\, and a three-course dinner by Jeffery A. Miller Catering. The Spring Ting Dinner and Auction raises critical funding for exhibitions and educational programs at ASHM. The event is cocktail attire. Tickets begin at $125 for members and $150 for non-members.\nTo learn more and to register visit: https://www.americanswedish.org/events/spring-ting \nAbout Ulrika Bengtsson: Ulrika Bengtsson was born in Värnamo in the southern Swedish countryside\, where her father’s passion for hunting and her mother’s commitment to cooking everything from scratch ignited Ulrika’s love of food. After attending culinary school\, Ulrika worked at restaurants in Sweden before she came to New York City where she fell in love with the vibrant melting pot of world cuisines. In 1990\, she joined the staff at the prestigious Swedish restaurant Aquavit where she gained invaluable experience before accepting a position cooking for the Swedish Consulate General with a focus on introducing American businesses to Sweden. Fueled by her passion for authentic Swedish cuisine\, Ulrika opened her restaurant\, Ulrika’s\, on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan in 1999. The establishment embraced the Farm to Fork concept\, a notion close to Ulrika’s heart since her childhood\, emphasizing the importance of knowing where food comes from. Ulrika’s most recent venture is the Björk Café & Bistro at Scandinavia House on Park Avenue which opened in the Fall of 2022. ASHM is thrilled to honor Ulrika with our Outstanding Achievement Award\, and we look forward to many more of her culinary accomplishments.

SUMMARY:Pique Boricua Workshop with the Norris Square Neighborhood Project at Manayunk
DESCRIPTION:In Puerto Rico\, you will find a traditional hot sauce\, called pique\, used on rice\, beans\, and meat dishes. While most Puerto Ricans use their own recipes for making pique\, creating a variation of taste\, it is typically made with vinegar\, a variety of chili peppers\, garlic\, and spices\, followed by a fermentation period to allow for a more complex flavor to develop. \nThe Norris Square Neighborhood Project follows a recipe gifted to them by a community elder and land steward\, Don Angel. Don Angel’s recipe calls for ají dulces (or any hot pepper)\, garlic\, cilantro\, bay leaves\, salt\, pepper\, oil\, and vinegar\, providing just the right amount of spice that keeps you going back for more. This workshop will be led by youth from the Norris Square Neighborhood\, who will show you how to craft and ferment the ingredients to create a perfectly delicious pique to use on your future dishes. \n\nDATE\nSeptember 18\, 2023 \n\n\nTIME\n6:00 pm – 7:00 pm\n\n\nCOST\n\n$25 \n\n\n\nACCESSIBILITY\n\nClick here for more information about accessibility at the PHS Pop Up Garden at Manayunk.
