SUMMARY:Girls' High Library Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Girls’ High Library was once a vibrant hub of learning\, creativity\, and inspiration. However\, it has been closed since 2013. Its research materials still include World Book Encyclopedias and a physical card catalog. There is no access to digital books\, electronic research materials\, periodicals\, and other critical technological resources to ensure that our students can excel and compete academically. Despite our school’s successes and strengths\, our students cannot effectively engage with their present education and prepare for life after graduation without a library and a technologically accessible resource center. \nThis fundraiser aims to restore the library to its former glory while incorporating modern resources to empower current and future students. We aim to provide a state-of-the-art library and resource center staffed with librarians so Girls’ High girls can thrive. And now\, there are three ways you can support\, including our Library Fundraiser planned for Sunday\, May 18th.

SUMMARY:Trillium and Wine: Complementary Pairings
DESCRIPTION:Great wine and food pairings either emphasize the similarities or highlight the differences between the two. Dr. Raguso studies the floral scents of native plant species\, including trilliums\, a core collection at Mt. Cuba. Trilliums are noteworthy for not smelling like conventional flowers\, with fragrances that evoke wine\, cheese\, fruit\, and spices. He has assembled a “flight” of Mt. Cuba trilliums and several wines that complement their woodsy aroma. Explore the chemistry and ecological value of various trillium scents and take note of the pairings you like. (Ages 21 and over)\nThis program takes place in person at Mt. Cuba Center on Saturday\, April 26\, 2025.\nAbout the Instructor:\nRobert Raguso\, PhD\, is a professor of Chemical Ecology at Cornell University. His research interests run the spectrum of insect-plant interactions mediated by chemistry\, especially the role of fragrance in pollination ecology and animal behavior. He has promoted his research by organizing symposia\, short courses\, and workshops world-wide.
