SUMMARY:Crayfish Dinner Party!
DESCRIPTION:Like discovering new cultural cuisine? Looking for a fun night out with friends? Enjoy a summer evening at the American Swedish Historical Museum to indulge in a Swedish specialty: crayfish! \nAt one time the lakes of central Sweden were filled with crayfish\, but overfishing decimated their population. Eventually\, the government prohibited the catching of crayfish except for a short time in late summer. After going the whole summer without the delicacy\, the return of crayfish to the dinner table in August became a great cause for celebration\, a tradition that has continued through today. \nPlease join us on the Museum’s stunning terrace overlooking FDR Park for a crayfish dinner on Friday\, August 8th to experience our take on the Swedish crayfish tradition! Enjoy a buffet of crayfish and Swedish meatballs\, alongside potatoes\, cheese pie\, cucumber and beet salads\, desserts\, and a glass of aquavit\, all outside under our tent decorated with paper lanterns\, festive lights\, and all things crayfish! \n$60 for ASHM members and $70 for non-members. Register online by August 4th.\nhttps://www.americanswedish.org/events/crayfish-party-5

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: Across the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway to America
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of the ASHM Balcony exhibit Across the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway to America. \nEnjoy traditional Norwegian recipes\, a special kransekake from MANDEL bakery\, and the opportunity to meet Susan Satkowski\, Honorary Consul General to Norway. \nAcross the Atlantic explores the trans-Atlantic journey of the first organized group of Norwegian immigrants to sail to the United States. The exhibit highlights the Sloopers’ experiences on the open sea and their eventual arrival in the United States. \nAcross the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway is part of Crossings Bicentennial in North America. The exhibit is made possible with support from the Sons of Norway Foundation. SUMMARY:Girls' High Library Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Girls’ High Library was once a vibrant hub of learning\, creativity\, and inspiration. However\, it has been closed since 2013. Its research materials still include World Book Encyclopedias and a physical card catalog. There is no access to digital books\, electronic research materials\, periodicals\, and other critical technological resources to ensure that our students can excel and compete academically. Despite our school’s successes and strengths\, our students cannot effectively engage with their present education and prepare for life after graduation without a library and a technologically accessible resource center. \nThis fundraiser aims to restore the library to its former glory while incorporating modern resources to empower current and future students. We aim to provide a state-of-the-art library and resource center staffed with librarians so Girls’ High girls can thrive. And now\, there are three ways you can support\, including our Library Fundraiser planned for Sunday\, May 18th.
