SUMMARY:Design A Doodad: Travel Game Zine
DESCRIPTION:BARRIO TELEVISION (work in progress) by Christina DiPasquale\n(USA\, 2026\, TBD) \nBARRIO TELEVISION uncovers the story of Puerto Rican activists who produced the first bilingual Latino television series to air nationwide called “Realidades.” After tracing U.S. complicity in the 1973 coup in Chile\, “Realidades” received backlash and the Nixon administration moved to cut public-media funding\, knocking the show off the air. Undeterred\, the creators mounted a comeback—training media makers in Philadelphia\, organizing a media coalition\, and sparking a fight for media power that continues to this day. \nChristina DiPasquale is a Colombian-American storyteller based in Philadelphia dedicated to advancing participatory media practices rooted in collective memory and movement-building.

SUMMARY:Earth Appreciation Day - Plants and Poetry
DESCRIPTION:Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic and Temple University at the Discovery Center as we work to maintain our habitats and conservation work for Earth Day! This site is home to over 170+ species of birds\, many species of insects and mammals\, and up to thousands of visitors per year. Our efforts can aid in the livelihood of these animals and stewardship for the people. We’ll focus on removing invasive bushes and plants around the trailhead so we can plant native shrubs in the future\, as well as fill our seed packets for the public seed library. \nAfterwards\, we open our space to an open stage for those to come and share their voice and appreciation of our earth and community. This can be through poetry\, stories and other types of offerings. This session will start with a brief\, Strawberry Mansion history lesson from our neighborhood and tour leader Judith. \nTime: 1-2:30pm Volunteer Engagement / 2:30-4pm Open Stage \nVolunteer and Open Stage sign up can be found here! https://forms.gle/WEattkr7Q34WwufS8 \nReach out to audubon@discoveryphila.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:Screening: "You Don't Have to Go Home\, But..." by Aidan Un
DESCRIPTION:You Don’t Have to Go Home\, But . . .by Aidan Un (USA\, 2024\, 78 min) is an ode to dancing bodies\, a grimy love letter to Philly\, a story about what to do when the DJ has played the last song\, the club’s lights come on\, and you gotta go . . . somewhere. Following dancers at different stages of their artistic lives\, with legendary party Second Sundae as backdrop\, this film examines the possibility of spiritual fulfillment in a socioeconomic configuration that ultimately doesn’t value the practices that make us free. \nThe evening will also feature the next generation of storytellers\, opening with “Hop Hop Life”\, produced through Scribe’s Documentary History Project for Youth (DHPY). The event will also feature appearances by Second Sundae dancers who helped shape the scene\, joining Un for a post-screening discussion about the community\, history\, and influence of hip-hop culture.

SUMMARY:Winterfest Lantern Walk
DESCRIPTION:Finishing off our month-long celebration for wildlife at the Schuylkill Center\, we will be hitting the trails for one of our beloved nighttime hikes. See the woods from a whole new perspective as we gather for an evening of exploration while the sun sets. Together we will create our own lanterns\, then take a guided hike with our educators through the trails. Winter uncovers a unique beauty in our forest while the trees are bare and the nights are quiet.\nSign Up\nWinterfest\nThis event is part of our Winterfest series\, which celebrates wildlife at the Schuylkill Center. We invite you to bring a donation of cotton balls\, kitchen trash bags (13 and 55 gal)\, free and clear laundry detergent\, or Dawn dish soap to this event to help us care for sick\, injured\, or abandoned wildlife at the Wildlife Clinic.

SUMMARY:2nd Hand Circus Scrap Night : Sustainable Love
DESCRIPTION:Love Letters to Old Things\nA Sustainability Valentine’s Scrap Night \nOn the eve of Valentine’s Day\, 2nd Hand Circus invites you to fall back in love — with the things that have been left behind. \nScrap Night is a curated evening of short circus works made from thrifted\, passed-down\, recycled\, or once-forgotten objects. Eight circus artists each receive (or bring) a secondhand item and transform it into a brand-new act. Think juggling\, contortion\, aerial\, fashion experiments\, and delightful curiosity — all sparked by old stuff with a story. \nThis Scrap Night leans into Valentine’s Day through a sustainability lens:\n💘 loving what you already have\n💘 repairing instead of replacing\n💘 choosing care\, creativity\, and reuse \nBecause sustainability is an act of love — for objects\, for people\, and for the future. \n2nd Hand Circus is a new performance company creating spaces for creative ingenuity rooted in sustainability. Scrap Night is our playground and our laboratory: a low-stakes\, high-curiosity experiment asking artists to think outside the box and make something meaningful from what already exists. \nWhat can you make from what’s been left behind?\nCome watch these artists find out. \nFebruary 13\n📍 Thunderbird Hall — 2856 Frankford Ave\, Philadelphia\, PA 19134 (at E Cambria St) NOTE: This event is NOT at Thunderbird Salvage!\n🕗 Show at 8pm | Doors at 7:30pm \n🎟 Tickets: $35–$75 (all tickets includes two drink tickets)\nNOTAFLOF options available at the door\nBar on site + food available \nBefore or after the show\, browse the 2nd Hand Circus Thrift Store and explore Thunderbird Hall’s estate items\, surplus\, tools\, and legendary $2-per-pound bins. \nAccessibility note: Thunderbird Hall is up one full flight of stairs with a landing halfway. \nCome for the circus.
