SUMMARY:2025 Revolutionary Germantown Festival
DESCRIPTION:Germantown’s place in the American Revolution will be on full display at the Revolutionary Germantown Festival\, Saturday\, October 4\, 2025\, from 10am to 4pm\, rain or shine. Enjoy hands-on activities\, meet the soldiers\, tours\, food and more at this annual free event hosted at Cliveden\, the epicenter of the 1777 Battle of Germantown. \nExplore the lives and experiences of people from the past throughout the day. Meet soldiers from the British and Continental armies and visit their camps to learn about life during the American Revolution\, including the Museum of the American Revolution’s replica of George Washington’s mobile headquarters during the war. Watch Justin Cherry of Half Crown Bakehouse bake fresh bread in an 18th-century oven and purchase some for yourself. Hands-on activities will be available throughout the day; try your hand at blacksmithing\, candle dipping and paper making. Family-friendly activities will be available with the sites of Historic Germantown. \nHear the stories of the Revolution from Ned Hector\, an African American teamster and Dinah\, a once-enslaved woman who lived and labored at Stenton\, requested and gained her freedom April 15\, 1776\, and witnessed the Revolutionary War. Visitors can tour Cliveden and view an exhibit of portraits from the Souls Shot Portrait Project in the Cliveden Barn. \nTwo memorials will help mark the lives lost to violence both long ago and today. At 12:15 pm\, there will be a moment of commemoration for those who died during the Battle of Germantown. At 3:45 pm there will be a moment of remembrance for those lost to gun violence in Philadelphia in 2025. \nFor the event schedule\, parking\, and more information about the Revolutionary Germantown Festival\, visit https://cliveden.org/revolutionary-germantown-festival/. The Revolutionary Germantown Festival is generously sponsored by Asher’s Chocolate Company\, Cheshire Law Group\, Elfant Wissahickon Realtors\, John Milner Architects\, Randall and Linda Miller\, Ted and Dianne Miller\, and Wissahickon Landscape Design.

SUMMARY:Crayfish Dinner Party!
DESCRIPTION:Like discovering new cultural cuisine? Looking for a fun night out with friends? Enjoy a summer evening at the American Swedish Historical Museum to indulge in a Swedish specialty: crayfish! \nAt one time the lakes of central Sweden were filled with crayfish\, but overfishing decimated their population. Eventually\, the government prohibited the catching of crayfish except for a short time in late summer. After going the whole summer without the delicacy\, the return of crayfish to the dinner table in August became a great cause for celebration\, a tradition that has continued through today. \nPlease join us on the Museum’s stunning terrace overlooking FDR Park for a crayfish dinner on Friday\, August 8th to experience our take on the Swedish crayfish tradition! Enjoy a buffet of crayfish and Swedish meatballs\, alongside potatoes\, cheese pie\, cucumber and beet salads\, desserts\, and a glass of aquavit\, all outside under our tent decorated with paper lanterns\, festive lights\, and all things crayfish! \n$60 for ASHM members and $70 for non-members. Register online by August 4th.\nhttps://www.americanswedish.org/events/crayfish-party-5
