SUMMARY:Design A Doodad: Travel Game Zine
DESCRIPTION:BARRIO TELEVISION (work in progress) by Christina DiPasquale\n(USA\, 2026\, TBD) \nBARRIO TELEVISION uncovers the story of Puerto Rican activists who produced the first bilingual Latino television series to air nationwide called “Realidades.” After tracing U.S. complicity in the 1973 coup in Chile\, “Realidades” received backlash and the Nixon administration moved to cut public-media funding\, knocking the show off the air. Undeterred\, the creators mounted a comeback—training media makers in Philadelphia\, organizing a media coalition\, and sparking a fight for media power that continues to this day. \nChristina DiPasquale is a Colombian-American storyteller based in Philadelphia dedicated to advancing participatory media practices rooted in collective memory and movement-building.

SUMMARY:Bells Mill Road Clean-Up for Earth Day and MLK Day
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Bells Mill Road and Forbidden Drive\nParking: Bell’s Mill Road will be closed starting at 7:00 am\, so please plan where you’ll park ahead of time! There is plenty of neighborhood street parking near the Manatawna and Northwestern Trailheads\, but any parking location will require hiking into our meeting location. See map for details.\nBathrooms: There should be porta-potties on Forbidden Drive and Bells Mill Road.\nJoin Friends of the Wissahickon in celebrating BOTH Earth Day and Martin Luther King Jr Day (after having to cancel our service day in January) with a special large-scale clean-up along Bells Mill Road! For this effort\, the Road will be closed from Lykens Lane to Germantown Avenue\, providing volunteers with safe access to a heavily traveled road. By removing litter along the roadway\, we can prevent trash from washing into the creek during rainstorms and help protect habitat and stream health.\nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities:\n• Litter clean-up\n• Hiking up to 2 miles (we’ll be traveling up and down Bells Mill Road picking up trash)\nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants\, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email one business day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people\, please reach out to us first. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.\nRegister Below!

SUMMARY:Philly Unwrapped Community Waste Reduction Engagement Session
DESCRIPTION:Philly Unwrapped\, come let your voice be heard about waste reduction and reuse in Philadelphia! \nPhiladelphia spends millions every year managing waste. Almost nothing prevents it. At the same time\, food and beverage businesses are required to purchase single-use packaging that increases operating costs and contributes to pollution that disproportionately impacts Black and Brown communities where waste is processed and incinerated. \nThere may be a better\, less wasteful way — and it saves money and protects public health. \nPhilly Unwrapped is bringing together restaurant owners\, cafés\, caterers\, corner stores\, food trucks\, event venues\, hospitality operators\, community leaders\, and public officials to explore practical waste prevention strategies that work in Philadelphia. \nWhat This Is\nJoin ECHO Systems\, The Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia\, Rethink Disposable’s Clean Water Fund and Trash Academy in this informative and engaging community event. \nLearn How to Use the Philly Unwrapped Community Waste Reduction Toolkit — a free\, practical resource designed specifically for local food-sector businesses.\nCase studies show that businesses implementing reuse and waste prevention strategies save between $3\,000–$22\,000 annually\, while reducing trash volume\, improving operational efficiency\, and strengthening customer loyalty. Attendees will be able to join a funding consortium to demonstrate business need and interest in supporting a just transition toward reuse and waste prevention.\nThis event includes a community listening session. We want to hear directly from residents and business owners about concerns\, barriers\, and opportunities as we work to attract funding and build a just transition. \nWho Should Attend \nRestaurant\, café\, and food truck owners\nCaterers and event operators\nCorner store and grocery operators\nHospitality managers\nCommunity leaders and residents\nInstitutions and neighborhood organizations\nWe warmly invite City Council members\, local representatives\, community development corporations\, business improvement districts\, and neighborhood organizations to join this conversation. Advancing waste prevention presents an opportunity to strengthen fiscal stewardship\, support local businesses\, and protect public health — and we look forward to working together to explore what that can look like for Philadelphia. \nWhat You’ll Walk Away With\nClear\, implementable cost-saving strategies\nAccess to the free Philly-specific Toolkit\nEarly information about upcoming grant opportunities and how to participate in the funding consortium\nConnections to a growing network of local businesses and partners\nAn opportunity to help shape future funding and policy priorities\nThis is not a lecture. SUMMARY:Chestnut Hill Conservancy's Discovering: Chestnut Hill’s Victorian District
DESCRIPTION:The Discovering series\, one of the Chestnut Hill Conservancy’s signature public programs\, spotlights the area’s rich architecture\, history\, and natural beauty through guided tours and lectures\, offering Conservancy members discounted tickets.\nConservancy members enjoy discounted tickets and exclusive access to special events\, fostering deeper connections throughout the Wissahickon watershed. Advance registration is required.\nThe exact walking tour meeting location will be emailed to registrants approximately two days prior to the event. \nClick here to register.\nThe Chestnut Hill Conservancy invites you to step back into the Gilded Age with Discovering: Victorian Chestnut Hill\, a guided walking tour led by local architectural historian\, lecturer\, and Our Town columnist George McNeely. This in-person tour will explore the “top of the hill” neighborhood\, which flourished after the arrival of the first railroad terminus in Chestnut Hill in 1854\, kicking off the dramatic transformation of this town.\nThat railroad opened the area to Philadelphia merchants and professionals who sought respite from the congestion and pollution of the city. The next several decades saw an explosion in the planning of new streets across nearby farm fields and the construction of proud suburban “villas” in the Italianate and Gothic Revival styles. Some were designed by Philadelphia’s more important architects\, including Samuel Sloan and Theophilus P. Chandler. Many of those houses have survived mostly unchanged\, offering a wonderful opportunity to explore the prosperous “top of the hill” neighborhood that was the center of Chestnut Hill before Henry H. Houston and his son-in-law\, Dr. George Woodward\, developed the West side.\n“The parade of well-preserved Victorian villas along both sides of Summit Street represents a rare glimpse back into the early decades of the Gilded Age and would make a perfect setting for that television series\,” says McNeely.\nThis walking tour will provide insight into the architectural details\, urban planning\, and historical context that shaped this distinctive neighborhood long before the development of Chestnut Hill’s west side.
