Join Friends of the Wissahickon and Philly Queer Birders for a gentle hike along Forbidden Drive as we keep our eyes and ears peeled for birds summering in the park.\nPhilly Queer Birders formed in 2021 to build queer community through birding and to create welcoming\, inclusive\, and accessible LGBTQIA+ spaces in the outdoors. Bring binoculars if you have them\, or let us know you’d like to borrow a pair here! The closest bus stop at Germantown Ave and Northwestern Ave is a quarter mile walk away and is serviced by the 51 and 97 buses. If you’re coming from the Roxborough side of the park\, you can take the 27 bus to Ridge Ave and Northwestern Ave\, though that’s closer to a mile walk. See map for details.\nBathrooms: There will be porta potties available for use at our meeting location\, and there’s an ADA accessible composting restroom up the hill at Wissahickon Environmental Center.\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified\, guided hikes may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. SUMMARY:Friday Night Lights
DESCRIPTION:Picture this: warm summer breezes\, live music\, locally crafted cider\, wine and beer\, s’mores\, and unforgettable sunset views at one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Chester County… Friday Night Lights is the must-not-miss event of the summer. \nLive music: Beloved local band of three brothers (by both blood and friendship)\, The Flying Komorowski Brothers return to headline alongside openers Madisun Bailey\, a Maryland-based songwriter who draws inspiration from nature and blends soul\, alternative jazz\, and a unique rhythmic guitar style. \nNature at its best: Relax and unwind in the stunning beauty of the preserve. \nMake it cozy: Bring your favorite blankets or lawn chairs and settle in for a comfortable evening. \nFood & drink: Treat yourself to local flavors available for purchase\, including: \nCraft beer from East Branch Brewing Company and Animated Brewing Company\nLocal cider and wine from family-owned Dressler Estate\nDelicious food truck offerings including Cheezy Vegan (all-vegan)\, Buddy’s Burgers\, Breasts\, & Fries (featuring veggie burgers)\, Delco Steaks (featuring veggie and vegan options)\, and KOI on the Go (Asian/Latin fusion with vegetarian options\, plus coffee and desserts).\nStar gazing with local astronomy clubs. \nAre you a member? Join us at the exclusive Member’s Lounge under the pavilion for a unique experience at this well-loved musical evening. With high-tops to set your food and drinks\, cool treats\, snacks\, and beverages\, and more… there’s something for all ages to enjoy (and don’t worry\, there’s plenty of time to become a member today just in time for FREE ice cream… you heard that right—check out ticket options below). \nNew location: We love our birds and we hope you do too. Fields are particularly valuable as nesting areas and food sources for birds such as Bobolink\, Eastern Meadowlark\, and Grasshopper Sparrow. Two-thirds of grassland birds like these have experienced population declines\, and one-quarter of them may soon face threatened or endangered status. We made the decision not to mow the field to protect our birds. We will be hosting Friday Night Lights at the Lenfest Center with sweeping views of the preserve. Learn more: how is Natural Lands helping birds? \nFor a great cause: Your participation supports Natural Lands’ mission to preserve open space\, care for nature\, and connect people to the outdoors and each other.
