To join the waitlist\, email boxoffice@pcmsconcerts.org or call 215-569-8080\n \nPremiering at Bartram’s Garden\, Root Song blends live vocal chamber music by Roomful of Teeth—an eight-voice “singing forest”—with Indigenous storytelling by Tchin\, transforming the unseen realities of the woodland into a musical conversation. Inspired by ground-breaking research on the connection and communication of trees and rooted in Indigenous Knowledge\, Root Song explores the mysteries of our interconnected natural world. Presented by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and directed by Jazimina Creamer-MacNeil\, the work is composed by Christopher Theofanidis with a libretto by Melissa Studdard.  \nThis is the second of two identical performances at Bartram’s Garden\, the first taking place on May 29. \nNATURE WALK – Potawatomi botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer will lead a nature walk at Bartram’s Garden before the performance\, from 2:00-2:40 PM. \nTICKETS – Root Song concert tickets are $35. A limited number of $2 tickets are available on a first-come\, first-served basis to Southwest Philadelphia neighbors as well as all ACCESS cardholders. ACCESS tickets will be available for sale starting on May 1. Directions\, parking\, and shuttle information will be provided to ticket holders. DESCRIPTION:In case of inclement weather\, this workshop will be rescheduled to 3/28. \nJoin artist Eric César Morales for an art-making workshop! Participants will learn to weave intricate jewelry with seeds harvested from around Philadelphia\, including the grounds of Bartram’s Garden\, as well as seeds collected from Latin America and the Pacific. We will learn about the historical and cultural significance of each type of seed\, including their roles in art\, music\, food\, medicine\, and folktales.  \nParticipants will design and weave their own bracelets out of seeds! All materials are provided\, and interested participants will have the chance to hand-drill a few of their own seeds. Designed for all ages and experience levels\, this workshop welcomes everyone—from children to seniors—to engage creatively with nature\, culture\, and craft!

SUMMARY:Indigenous Phytotherapy | The Plants That Heal: Hapé Circle
DESCRIPTION:For indigenous people\, Hapé (pronounced “ha-peh”) has a powerful spirit of healing and protection against evils. Hapé is a cleansing snuff that is seen to open countless portals\, enabling a person to reach different dimensions in the spiritual world. \nThis medicinal tobacco helps to focus and sharpen the mind. Hapé is served to clear a person of distracting thoughts and bad energies in preparation for intention setting. It clears the sinuses of mucus and bacteria to combat colds & respiratory ailments. It provides a calming\, grounding effect on the emotional and spiritual body that lasts much longer than the initial application and sensation. \nHapé is a mixture of sun-dried Mói tobacco\, as well as ashes of tree bark which is presented in the form of a powder. It is widely used in rituals & ceremonies in indigenous cultures as a spiritual and physical cure of illnesses. Tobacco is considered a sacred plant by indigenous peoples\, as a plant of power and a strong healing vibration. \nAll classes and gatherings in the Indigenous Phytotherapy series are donation-based. For this session\, a donation of $60 is recommended via Venmo to the facilitators or in cash at the event. \nNo one will be turned away for their inability to pay.
