DESCRIPTION:Handbuilding allows us to create almost anything we can imagine! Students will use handbuilding techniques to make unique and functional ceramic flower vases. Instruction will cover foundational handbuilding skills\, sculptural techniques\, and a variety of surface treatments & decorations. Students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own project ideas to class. This class is appropriate for a range of skill levels\, from beginner to advanced. Whether you are looking to establish fundamental techniques or explore the bounds of your creativity and imagination\, this class is for you! \n—— \nPlease note that this workshop takes place in the Utility Works basement\, which is only accessible via stairs. The class requires participants to be able to sit and/or stand for at least three hours and use their hands for two hours. You mustbe able to lift 25lbs. There are two gender-neutral bathrooms available for students\, including one that is ADA accessible. If you have specific accessibility needs or questions\, please contact us in advance so we can discuss potential accommodations.

Afterwards\, Shakira King will lead a discussion connecting the readings with the artwork on display in InLiquid Gallery\, in an exhibition also titled “The Source of Self Regard.” We hope you’ll join us for this insightfully unique gallery experience.\nThe Source of Self Regard brings together 6 artists with roots in Philadelphia to examine the Black self in a powerful celebration and affirmation of belonging. Learn more here.\nShakira King (She/Her) is an activist\, educator\, archivist\, and West Philadelphian Native.\nShe has been an organizer for the last 13 years with organizations like Black Lives Matter Philly\, and Sankofa Community Empowerment. Her organizing focus is on youth\, LBGTQIA issues\, education disparities\, and mass incarceration. She also founded a mutual aid fund that distributed over $30\,000 to needy Philadelphians From June of 2020 to March of 2021.\nShe has previously done work with Noname BookClub around adult literacy\, and political education and is also working on two passion projects. One which highlights the impact and history of black queer folks on Philadelphia’s culture and history\, as well as a reading list curated specifically for Black children called For The Youngbouls\nShakira hopes that by doing this work she can aid in the liberation of all Black people and create equity and space in spaces for the most marginalized of us.

The program consists of Yarn by Marcos Balter\, Tarnish by Nina C. Young\, KEEN by Roshanne Etezady\, Fair and Balanced? by Frank J. Oteri\, and Graffiti II by Roberto Sierra. \nPRISM co-founder and tenor saxophonist Matthew Levy writes\, “the works on the program are among the group’s most meaningful commissions. Each resonates deeply and tests the bounds of what is possible on the saxophone. The program’s title is a nod to Ms. Young’s work\, Tarnish\, which is about revealing hidden beauty\, beauty that is ephemeral\, vanishing into the ether. All of the works on the program touch on this idea\, including Yarn by Marcos Balter\, a lament for the late saxophonist Ryan Muncy that explores the fragility of yarn as a metaphor for the fragility of life itself. PRISM recently recorded both works\, along with Mr. Sierra’s Graffiti II for a 2026 release on XAS. KEEN and Fair and Balanced? appear on previously released PRISM albums.”

Audiences will also experience the world premiere of “DNA – Part 1: Ireland\,” marking an exciting new direction for SHARP’s repertoire and the beginning of a six-year creative journey by Artistic Director Diane Sharp-Nachsin as she explores her heritage through the lens of her own DNA.\nAdding to the excitement\, SHARP Alumni Dancers will return to the stage to perform a brand-new piece and SHARP will be celebrating our dancer Miguel Quiñones who is retiring after 12 years with the company. The performance will open with several standout works\, including “Blind Faith – Part 3\,” a signature piece that encapsulates SHARP’s powerful style\, the playful and witty “Roller Coaster Rules.”

DESCRIPTION:“Sessions with the Muse” offers a peek into my creative process\, showcasing the documentation of my experiments\, the pages of my journals\, and an array of samples\, messy prototypes\, doodles\, sketches\, and pieces that are complete—for now—alongside those that remain works in progress. This collection emphasizes process and materials\, each drawing me back to nature and\, ultimately\, to my own wild nature. These sessions are practices\, pathways I’ve explored to find inspiration: looking to the light within\, channeling source energy\, and becoming quiet enough to hear the golden wisdom of ancestors. Through these pathways\, I seek the glow of inner muses to guide practices and illuminate pathways to purposeful\, meaningful creation. \nOver the last year as artist-in-residence at the Random Tea Room\, I’m was able to share the creative practices that help me connect with myself\, with nature\, with others\, and with sources of creative energy and inspiration—the muse within. I look forward to creating\, solving small process puzzles\, and playing together. Join me for journaling\, weaving\, mending\, natural dyeing… and plenty of tea and plant magic! Mural Arts and the Philadelphia Museum of Art have collaborated to bring the internationally renowned artist to Philadelphia to recreate her artwork\, The Beautyful Ones Series #1c\, as her first permanent public art installation. \nIn her methodically layered compositions\, Crosby combines painted depictions of people\, places\, and subjects from her life with photographic transfers derived from her personal image archive\, Nigerian magazines\, and other mass media sources. Hands-on activities will be available throughout the day; try your hand at blacksmithing\, candle dipping and paper making. Family-friendly activities will be available with the sites of Historic Germantown. \nHear the stories of the Revolution from Ned Hector\, an African American teamster and Dinah\, a once-enslaved woman who lived and labored at Stenton\, requested and gained her freedom April 15\, 1776\, and witnessed the Revolutionary War. Visitors can tour Cliveden and view an exhibit of portraits from the Souls Shot Portrait Project in the Cliveden Barn. \nTwo memorials will help mark the lives lost to violence both long ago and today. At 12:15 pm\, there will be a moment of commemoration for those who died during the Battle of Germantown. DESCRIPTION:Exhibition\nUntitled\nSept 8–26\, 2025 \nOpening Reception:\nSept 11 2025\, 5–7pm \nChester County Art Association\n100 N Bradford Ave\nWest Chester\, PA 19382\nDoes an artwork’s title provide a lens that shapes how the viewer will see the work? \nDoes a title provide context\, narrative\, and emotional essence\, hinting at what the artist wants us to feel\, or does it impede the viewer’s interpretation? \nDepending on the artist you ask\, the task of titling work can be an opportunity to take stock of their creation\, or a nebulous exercise in seeking to honor the work and speak to the viewer. \nPhiladelphia CollageWork’s Untitled exhibition invites viewers into the artwork titling process. Based on their observations\, imagination\, and interactions with the work\, viewers will have the opportunity to create a title for each piece in the exhibition. \nWe look forward to a collaborative engagement with the viewers and hope guests will revisit the show to see all the proposed titles.

DESCRIPTION:Touring from Hawaii\, Susan Edsall brings “Buen Camino\,” directed and developed by Jessica Lynn Johnson\, to the Yellow Bicycle Theatre (1435 Arch St) for the 2025 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. \nSusan has a perfect life\, a perfect love\, and perfect happiness. When she suddenly undergoes an unexpected loss\, her perfect life ends. Consumed by excruciating pain\, she finds it impossible to imagine any future worth living.\nUntil\, on an ordinary trip to the grocery store\, she hears The Voice. The trouble is\, Susan doesn’t believe in Voices. And yet\, when The Voice tells her to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain\, she obeys despite knowing nothing about this ancient pilgrimage. \nAt rock bottom\, Susan has nothing left to lose except the stories that bind her to the past. With the help of some improbable Spiritual Guides\, a little bit of magic\, and the Camino itself\, Susan must face her past to have any hope of creating her future. \nAlone on stage\, she becomes 23 characters to take the audience on her solitary walk through 540 miles of rain\, resentment\, and redemption. “Buen Camino” is a moving story of how grief can lead to surrender and ultimately to freedom. \n“Through the vivid\, funny and at times heartbreaking story of an excruciating and intense time in her life\, she magically transfers her own metamorphoses\, from profoundly bereft widow to hopeful\, determined and inspiring human\, to us — the audience.
