SUMMARY:(In)visible Structures: Rebecca Rutstein Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the opening of (In)visible Structures\, a solo exhibition of paintings by Rebecca Rutstein. Enjoy a talk in the gallery by Rebecca Rutstein at 7pm. Light refreshments will be served.\nThis event is free and open to the public. Sign up at the link below for event updates. Walk-ins welcome!\n \nSign Up\n \nAbout (In)visible Structures\n(In)visible Structures is a solo exhibition of paintings by Rebecca Rutstein. Working at the intersection of art and science\, Rutstein’s artistic practice visualizes environmental processes that connect and sustain all life on earth despite being invisible to the naked eye. This exhibition draws from Rutstein’s established body of works inspired by oceanic voyages with scientists\, presenting her Kama’ehuakanaloa Series painted at sea during an expedition off the coast of Hawaii in 2023. Rutstein also presents two new paintings signaling her current artistic explorations: Brine Forest (2025) is a mesmerizing composition based on Rutstein’s artistic research with scientists studying the microscopic activity within salt channels in Arctic sea ice. Shape Shifter (2025) pulsates with a network of interconnected abstract patterns inspired by underground fungal networks that enable trees to communicate and are integral to the forest ecosystem. Rutstein’s works inspire contemplation and awe while also fostering knowledge and respect for the hidden processes at work in the natural world.\n(In)visible Structures is curated by Heather Moqtaderi\, Interim Director of Environmental Art\nWorks on view in this exhibition are Courtesy of the Bridgette Mayer Gallery

SUMMARY:Creative Conversations with Guest Artist Paul Dusold
DESCRIPTION:Creative Conversations (CC) is a program bringing emerging and established artists together to engage in conversation in a welcoming and relaxed environment. CC is an opportunity to meet with artists who work in various mediums and talk about the joys\, struggles\, inspirations\, and technical issues artists deal with throughout their creative journey. Participants have the opportunity to share their work and receive sensitive and useful feedback from the visiting artist.\nPaul Dusold Paul DuSold studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and privately with Arthur DeCosta and in fresco with B.F. Long. He has taught for thirty years at various institutions including Wayne Art Center\, the Delaware Art Museum\, Main Line Art Center and continues to teach at Fleischer Art Memorial and Woodmere Art Museum.\nArtistic Statement\n“My artwork is best described as atmospheric representationalism. Still life\, figures in landscape and portraits are my preferred subject matter.\nMy influences are mostly sixteenth and seventeenth century Italian and Spanish painters; I am perhaps most informed by the use of oil paint as an expressive medium by the Venetian artists of the sixteenth century.\nThe Primary aspiration of my efforts is to paint pictures whose effect of meaning is achieved through a very acute balance of color\, light and shadow and seal of forms.” Personal Website: www.pauldusold.com

During a time of winter dormancy and hibernation in the forest\, this exhibition presents colorful\, visionary abstractions drawn from Whitehurst’s attunement to forms and patterns found in nature.\nWinterbloom is curated by Heather Moqtaderi\, Interim Director of Environmental Art. The exhibition opens with an Artist Reception and Gallery Talk on Saturday February 1\, 2025 from 1pm-3pm. Claire Downes Whitehurst will give an Artist Workshop on Saturday\, March 1 from 1pm-3pm.\nLearn more about Winterbloom\nAbout the Artist:\nClaire Whitehurst is a painter\, printmaker and sculptor. She received her BFA from the University of Mississippi\, and her MFA in Painting from the University of Iowa. She draws from the landscape and atmosphere of the deep South\, exploring queer space\, religious iconography and architecture through form\, color\, and composition. Her work plays with the relationship between image and object.\nIn 2018\, she was the recipient of the Stanley Fellowship for International Research at the University of Iowa. She worked in the Dordogne region of southern France where she studied polychromatic cave paintings and engravings. Her research focused on the relationship between surface and image\, and the compositional complexities of abstract narrative.\nShe has exhibited nationally and internationally\, and a book of her drawings and poetry was published in 2021 through Drum Machine Editions in Asheville\, North Carolina. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including New American Paintings\, Oxford American\, ArtMaze Magazine\, and the Graphite Journal in collaboration with the Hammer Museum along with many others.
