SUMMARY:Art as Medicine: The Clare Feldman Poliakoff Inaugural Lecture
DESCRIPTION:How does art heal? Can creativity transform healthcare? Join us for the inaugural Clare Feldman Poliakoff Lecture\, where medicine meets artistic expression in a groundbreaking conversation about accessibility\, empathy\, and the power of art to restore and inspire. \nIranian-American cardiologist and visual artist Dr. Nazanin Moghbeli delivers the keynote address\, drawing on her unique practice that transforms EKGs and diagnostic imagery into stunning works bridging Persian calligraphy and modern medicine. As Jefferson Health’s Artist-in-Residence\, Dr. Moghbeli pioneers the use of art to cultivate empathy among healthcare providers and prevent burnout—proving that creativity is not merely decorative\, but essential to healing. \nFollowing the keynote\, a distinguished panel explores how art creates inclusive\, therapeutic experiences across healthcare and community settings. Panelists include Dr. Moghbeli\, Megan Voeller (Director of Humanities at Thomas Jefferson University)\, and Julie Nolan (Recreation Therapy and Creative Arts Therapy\, Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation Hospital). \nThis inaugural event honors the Clare Feldman Poliakoff Endowment’s mission to celebrate art’s transformative power—launching on the public opening day of A Nation of Artists\, our landmark exhibition marking America’s 250th anniversary.

SUMMARY:Help Preserve the Nation's History-One Document at a Time! at Parkway Central Library
DESCRIPTION:Discover how you can help deepen our understanding of American history by transcribing original post–Civil War documents. Your work will uncover stories of family\, resilience\, and community in the years following Emancipation.\nIn this Acts of Science: Connected program\, Smithsonian experts will introduce the Freedmen’s Bureau records\, explain their significance\, and share why your participation matters. Together\, we’ll explore how these documents illuminate the lives of formerly enslaved people during Reconstruction and why preserving them is vital for research and education. \nThis nationwide effort—led by the National Museum of African American History and Culture\, the Smithsonian Transcription Center\, and the Free Library of Philadelphia—aims to transcribe more than 1.7 million images\, making this the largest crowdsourcing project in Smithsonian history. \nThe event will be livestreamed via Zoom. Participants will follow along in real time while completing transcription activities on their own devices. \nJoin us in preserving the nation’s history—one document at a time! Click here for more information about the program series. \nTHIS EVENT WILL BE HELD IN THE HEIM CENTER\, FIRST FLOOR\, ROOM 131/132

SUMMARY:The Spectrum of Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Glassboro\, NJ (March X\, 2026) — New Jersey native\, Philadelphia-based interdisciplinary artist Jazlyne Sabree will debut her latest body of work in The Spectrum of Resilience on view April 6 through July 30\, 2026\, at the newly renamed Rowan University Museum of Contemporary Art (RUMOCA).\nSabree’s exhibition presents timely work that speaks to identity\, history\, and cultural continuity.\nSabree creates large-scale collages composed of paint\, paper\, and found materials that center members of the African Diaspora as spiritual figures and vessels of memory. Through richly layered surfaces and textured compositions\, she elevates her subjects while examining ancestry\, displacement\, and the enduring presence of cultural identity across generations.\nBorn in Willingboro\, New Jersey\, Sabree earned her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia. She currently serves as executive director of Camden FireWorks\, a multidisciplinary arts incubator in Camden. Sabree holds a master’s degree in art education from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from Clark Atlanta University\, an HBCU in Atlanta\, Georgia. She is an alum of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Black Artist Fellowship\, and her work is included in collections such as The Colored Girls Museum in Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum.\nThe Spectrum of Resilience features Sabree’s large-scale collages layered into textured portraits of members of the African Diaspora\, including three works debuting for the first time in this exhibition:\nBetween Drips and Dignity\nPatient Recovery: Evidence of Survival\nClosed Eyes Because I’m Practicing Trust (The Kiss)\nHer subjects are presented as spiritual messengers — figures grounded in ancestral memory yet fully present in contemporary life. Through posture\, gaze and symbolic materials\, Sabree conveys both vulnerability and strength\, holding resilience and fragility in dynamic tension.\nDrawing from research into her own genealogy and diasporic histories\, Sabree explores how traditions\, belief systems\, and cultural practices endure despite displacement and systemic erasure. The exhibition invites viewers to witness not only historical trauma\, but also joy\, persistence\, and quiet power of cultural survival.\nRUMOCA in Glassboro\, New Jersey\, just outside Philadelphia\, mounts new contemporary art exhibitions by professional artists every two to three months. With a reputation for attracting respected international talent\, it’s a cornerstone of South Jersey’s vibrant arts scene. All exhibitions and special events are open to the public with free admission.\nRUMOCA\, formerly Rowan University Art Gallery and Museum\, recently adopted its new identity to reflect its continued growth\, expanded educational programming\, permanent collection\, and strengthened service to the Rowan community and the broader South Jersey region. The unified name brings together its two locations under one contemporary vision.\nArtist Statement\n“The Spectrum of Resilience reveals moments of strength\, tenacity\, vigor\, and adaptation expressed through the spirits of members across the African Diaspora. This work is developed alongside research into my own African ancestry and genealogy\, and the ancestral histories of those that I connect with on the way and my own research from literature such as: Oxford’s Archaeology of the African Diaspora\, the African Union’s The Diaspora Division\, and Cultural Resilience and Filial Responsibility Among the African Diaspora: To Be or To Belong among other texts.\nThese themes of resilience are expressed in the work through posture and moment\, capturing the candid lives of the sitters\, communicating their authentic spirit and their strength in all of their subtle declarations. It captures the range of emotions\, struggles\, joys\, and pains that are witnessed in the lives of African descendants\, calling for acceptance and embrace of their presence and their history in a time where their presence is being inhibited and their truths\, erased and distorted.”\nHow to Visit\nRowan University Museum of Contemporary Art is located at 301 High Street West\, Glassboro\, NJ 08028\, and is open to the public with free admission Monday to Friday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and Saturday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.\nLearn more.\nPRESS PHOTOS (Courtesy: Jazlyne Sabree)\nAbout Rowan University Museum of Contemporary Art\nRowan University Museum of Contemporary Art (RUMOCA) presents curated exhibitions by professional contemporary artists alongside dynamic educational programming. SUMMARY:Artist Closing and Talk
DESCRIPTION:“…at this very moment millions of human beings are standing at crossroads and intersections…”\n—Yehuda Amichai\, Open Closed Open \nThis is the message at the heart of “More Ink Meandering with Cutaways and Folds (Accompanied by a Poem)\,” an exhibition of ink works by artist Cheryl Levin. \nLevins’ work compels close attention with its intricate delicacy. By utilizing abstraction through thinly drawn linework and cutaways\, the artist memorializes and traces her evolution of processing loss through the years. The initial works were made using her artistic partner and late husband Robert Phillips’ metal cut-offs. Levin infuses them with ink\, bleeding into the page to echo the transitions from grief to eventual acceptance and distance\, encompassing the inconsistencies we collectively navigate in our life journeys. \nMore Ink Meandering with Cutaways and Folds (Accompanied by a Poem) will be on view in Gallery 1 at Da Vinci Art Alliance from March 4th to March 22nd.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk and Dinner: Yassi Deylami
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Yassi Deylami in a more intimate and relaxed setting. Following the talk\, dinner will be served allowing for more discussion with the artist and among guests. \nTrained as an architect\, Yassi Deylami approaches art as a form of spatial inhabitation. For her\, architecture is not merely structure but also a logic that allows space to be lived into and activated by memory\, imagination\, and presence. With a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Architecture\, Yassi creates work based on geometry and structural order\, which becomes the framework through which creatures emerge: shadow selves made visible\, ready to play.\nGrowing up between Tehran\, Iran and Sydney\, Australia\, Yassi learned to fragment and conceal aspects of her identity to survive this duality. Art became her way of unlocking her feelings of displacement\, and the demons she once believed she was fighting\, revealed themselves as exiled parts seeking recognition and belonging.\nWorking with charcoal\, pastel\, and printmaking\, Yassi allows spaces and forms to surface intuitively. Her large-scale works engulf the viewer\, drawing them into inner landscapes that house the unconscious and initiate self-discovery. Her smaller\, intimate monotypes invite viewers to be vulnerable and reflect upon the mysterious as a path toward wholeness.\nThrough her work\, large and small\, she creates surreal worlds that explore displacement\, belonging\, and the idea of home as a site of deep memory\, comfort and the universal desire for connection amid chaos. In a digital world defined by surfaces and distraction\, her work invites viewers inward – to confront the shared human truths of grief\, longing\, rage and the enduring desire for wholeness. \nMenu\n___\nCucumber\, red bell peppers\, tomato salad\n___\nBraised chicken with pomegranate glaze\nSaffron rice\n___\nOrange almond cake\n___\n*A GF vegan option of tagine with rice is available\, please inquire at time of reservation.

SUMMARY:A Closer Look by Yassi Deylami Opening Cocktail Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening cocktail reception on First Friday for our new exhibition featuring Yassi Deylami! \nRooms for the Unconscious \nIn a world of constant change\, where identity is often defined through otherness in the pursuit of uniqueness\, Yassi Deylami asks how spaces of safety and unity can still be found. Her mythological explorations strip away surface logic to connect with a deeper human narrative—one that repeats across time and geography. By removing cultural and societal conditioning\, the work seeks to uncover the fundamental forces that have sustained communities for generations. \nWith a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Architecture\, Yassi presents continuous worlds of characters navigating their place within society. Chaos breaks free at one edge while foundations are rebuilt at another\, held together by a central order that offers grounding. Rather than reinforcing binary thinking\, the work challenges the idea that experience is simply black and white. Internally\, multiple truths coexist\, yet externally we are conditioned to define opposition as “other” in order to give ourselves the illusion of being right. \nIn a world that demands differentiation to succeed\, Yassi’s sacred spaces search for belonging without sacrificing individuality—imagining community as something that can be rebuilt through shared human connection. \nOpen to the public between 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
