SUMMARY:Artist Closing and Talk
DESCRIPTION:“…at this very moment millions of human beings are standing at crossroads and intersections…”\n—Yehuda Amichai\, Open Closed Open \nThis is the message at the heart of “More Ink Meandering with Cutaways and Folds (Accompanied by a Poem)\,” an exhibition of ink works by artist Cheryl Levin. \nLevins’ work compels close attention with its intricate delicacy. By utilizing abstraction through thinly drawn linework and cutaways\, the artist memorializes and traces her evolution of processing loss through the years. The initial works were made using her artistic partner and late husband Robert Phillips’ metal cut-offs. Levin infuses them with ink\, bleeding into the page to echo the transitions from grief to eventual acceptance and distance\, encompassing the inconsistencies we collectively navigate in our life journeys. \nMore Ink Meandering with Cutaways and Folds (Accompanied by a Poem) will be on view in Gallery 1 at Da Vinci Art Alliance from March 4th to March 22nd.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk and Dinner: Yassi Deylami
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Yassi Deylami in a more intimate and relaxed setting. Following the talk\, dinner will be served allowing for more discussion with the artist and among guests. \nTrained as an architect\, Yassi Deylami approaches art as a form of spatial inhabitation. For her\, architecture is not merely structure but also a logic that allows space to be lived into and activated by memory\, imagination\, and presence. With a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Architecture\, Yassi creates work based on geometry and structural order\, which becomes the framework through which creatures emerge: shadow selves made visible\, ready to play.\nGrowing up between Tehran\, Iran and Sydney\, Australia\, Yassi learned to fragment and conceal aspects of her identity to survive this duality. Art became her way of unlocking her feelings of displacement\, and the demons she once believed she was fighting\, revealed themselves as exiled parts seeking recognition and belonging.\nWorking with charcoal\, pastel\, and printmaking\, Yassi allows spaces and forms to surface intuitively. Her large-scale works engulf the viewer\, drawing them into inner landscapes that house the unconscious and initiate self-discovery. Her smaller\, intimate monotypes invite viewers to be vulnerable and reflect upon the mysterious as a path toward wholeness.\nThrough her work\, large and small\, she creates surreal worlds that explore displacement\, belonging\, and the idea of home as a site of deep memory\, comfort and the universal desire for connection amid chaos. In a digital world defined by surfaces and distraction\, her work invites viewers inward – to confront the shared human truths of grief\, longing\, rage and the enduring desire for wholeness. \nMenu\n___\nCucumber\, red bell peppers\, tomato salad\n___\nBraised chicken with pomegranate glaze\nSaffron rice\n___\nOrange almond cake\n___\n*A GF vegan option of tagine with rice is available\, please inquire at time of reservation.

SUMMARY:A Closer Look by Yassi Deylami Opening Cocktail Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening cocktail reception on First Friday for our new exhibition featuring Yassi Deylami! \nRooms for the Unconscious \nIn a world of constant change\, where identity is often defined through otherness in the pursuit of uniqueness\, Yassi Deylami asks how spaces of safety and unity can still be found. Her mythological explorations strip away surface logic to connect with a deeper human narrative—one that repeats across time and geography. By removing cultural and societal conditioning\, the work seeks to uncover the fundamental forces that have sustained communities for generations. \nWith a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Architecture\, Yassi presents continuous worlds of characters navigating their place within society. Chaos breaks free at one edge while foundations are rebuilt at another\, held together by a central order that offers grounding. Rather than reinforcing binary thinking\, the work challenges the idea that experience is simply black and white. Internally\, multiple truths coexist\, yet externally we are conditioned to define opposition as “other” in order to give ourselves the illusion of being right. \nIn a world that demands differentiation to succeed\, Yassi’s sacred spaces search for belonging without sacrificing individuality—imagining community as something that can be rebuilt through shared human connection. \nOpen to the public between 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

SUMMARY:2nd Hand Circus Scrap Night : Sustainable Love
DESCRIPTION:Love Letters to Old Things\nA Sustainability Valentine’s Scrap Night \nOn the eve of Valentine’s Day\, 2nd Hand Circus invites you to fall back in love — with the things that have been left behind. \nScrap Night is a curated evening of short circus works made from thrifted\, passed-down\, recycled\, or once-forgotten objects. Eight circus artists each receive (or bring) a secondhand item and transform it into a brand-new act. Think juggling\, contortion\, aerial\, fashion experiments\, and delightful curiosity — all sparked by old stuff with a story. \nThis Scrap Night leans into Valentine’s Day through a sustainability lens:\n💘 loving what you already have\n💘 repairing instead of replacing\n💘 choosing care\, creativity\, and reuse \nBecause sustainability is an act of love — for objects\, for people\, and for the future. \n2nd Hand Circus is a new performance company creating spaces for creative ingenuity rooted in sustainability. Scrap Night is our playground and our laboratory: a low-stakes\, high-curiosity experiment asking artists to think outside the box and make something meaningful from what already exists. \nWhat can you make from what’s been left behind?\nCome watch these artists find out. \nFebruary 13\n📍 Thunderbird Hall — 2856 Frankford Ave\, Philadelphia\, PA 19134 (at E Cambria St) NOTE: This event is NOT at Thunderbird Salvage!\n🕗 Show at 8pm | Doors at 7:30pm \n🎟 Tickets: $35–$75 (all tickets includes two drink tickets)\nNOTAFLOF options available at the door\nBar on site + food available \nBefore or after the show\, browse the 2nd Hand Circus Thrift Store and explore Thunderbird Hall’s estate items\, surplus\, tools\, and legendary $2-per-pound bins. \nAccessibility note: Thunderbird Hall is up one full flight of stairs with a landing halfway. \nCome for the circus. Stay for the romance.\nBreak up with fast fashion. 💔♻️

SUMMARY:First Friday February 6th @ Arch Enemy Arts
DESCRIPTION:Arch Enemy Arts invites you to join us on Februray 6th from 5 – 9 pm for the opening celebration of four new solo exhibitions\, featuring new-contemporary artists working in a wild range of styles and mediums\, plus The 2026 Spotlight Showcase\, our only open call group exhibition of the year. \nMore about the Shows: \nBabs Webbs’ “Same Window Different Visual” is a raw and emotive series. It is sweeping and intense; at once private\, personal\, delicate and dramatic. The show features five of the Colorado-based artist’s signature drawings\, plus three light-up dimensional works\, and a gorgeously constructed rare sculpture. As a whole\, the collection serves as a gateway into the artist’s dark and ethereal inner world. www.archenemyarts.com/samewindowdifferentvisual2026 \nThe debut solo exhibition by local Philly artist\, Alex Eckman-Lawn is a collection of gorgeous dimensional collages made from hand-cut paper\, constructed in an architecture of mysterious portals\, like catacombs and ghostly terrains. www.archenemyarts.com/ap-alexeckmanlawn \nAndrea Hooge’s “Futures Reimagined” is a series of twelve scratchboard illustrations\, sculptural dioramas\, and layered cutouts by Canadian artist Andrea Hooge. The series reflects on generational conflicts at different times in living memory in scenes that have all of the illustrative whimsy we love about Hooge’s work. www.archenemyarts.com/futuresreimagined2026 \nSpanish pop-surrealist painter Perrilla debuts a romp of madcap monsters lead by powerful big-eyed girls. Perrilla’s work is weird\, surreal\, and full of joy. \nThe 2025 Spotlight Showcase is our annual pulse-check on the new contemporary landscape and an excuse to look beyond the familiar and find what’s next. This year’s lineup features 18 artists new to Arch Enemy Arts from across the globe\, working in a wide range of styles and mediums. www.archenemyarts.com/spotlightshowcase2026

SUMMARY:Devan Shimoyama: SHIFT
DESCRIPTION:Glassboro\, NJ (January 6\, 2026) — Philadelphia native artist Devan Shimoyama will present new work in his regional debut\, SHIFT at Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum. This solo exhibition runs January 26 to March 21. Opening reception Wednesday February 4th 2026 at 5-7pm. \nDevan Shimoyama is a visual artist who works primarily in painting and self-portraiture\, with works inspired as much by classical mythology as by the culture of his youth. Through his depictions of the queer Black male form\, Shimoyama investigates the politics of queer culture while navigating his own personal narratives. Referencing the dramatic sensibilities of painters such as Caravaggio and Goya\, he layers his surfaces with jewels\, black glitter\, rhinestones\, and sequins to evoke both the beauty and alienation of the Black queer body.
