Visitors will be invited to interact with components of the installation and may encounter docents in guiding roles. The experience will culminate in a “lounge” space full of “Bearded baggage” which will also serve as the performance site for the Now Hoarding: In-Flight Entertainment live event series. \nIt will take visitors approximately 60-75 minutes to view the entirety of the Priority Hoarding installation. Groups of 6 will enter the installation\, at 15-minute timed entry intervals. An opportunity to ride a Surrey bike is offered but not required.

These purposes often collided; eventually drinking water won out. The environmental movement changed the river as radically as the industrial age had. These changes\, and contemporary uses\, leave imprints. “Walking the Schuylkill” intends to capture and highlight those marks\, illustrating the character of the modern Schuylkill River.

SUMMARY:Russell Brodie- Paintings 2001–2026
DESCRIPTION:Moderated by Elizabeth Spungen\, Tarver\, Bullock and Burton will reflect on their lifelong journeys shaped by Black cowboy culture\, their commitment to preserving its vital cultural history\, and how they have come together for The Long Ride Home project. \nRon Tarver was a staff photojournalist at The Philadelphia Inquirer for more than 30 years\, where he received a Pulitzer Prize and numerous other awards. Tarver has also been awarded Guggenheim Foundation\, Independence Foundation\, NEA and Pew Fellowships. His work has been widely exhibited in numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally and is included in many public collections. \nJordan Bullock is a Philadelphia-based racehorse trainer whose work is rooted in the city’s tradition of Black urban horsemanship. Raised in North Philadelphia\, he grew up as part of the White House Stables in Brewerytown\, where his father\, George “Bumpsey” Bullock\, was a central figure. Bullock gained attention as a young subject of Ron Tarver’s series about Philadelphia’s Black cowboys in the early 1990s. Today\, he trains at Parx Racetrack\, continuing a lifelong dedication shaped by family\, community and enduring cultural traditions. \nArt T. Burton spent 40 years in higher education as both a Professor of History and an administrator in African American Student Affairs. Burton is an award-winning author who published the first books on African American and Native American outlaws and lawmen in the Wild West\, as well as African Americans soldiers. His most recent work\, Cherokee Bill: Black Cowboy\, Indian Outlaw\, was published in 2020. In addition to receiving numerous recognitions\, Burton has appeared in documentaries and shows on the History Channel\, FOX and AHC. He was recently named the Historian for the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum of Fort Worth\, TX.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, September 26\, 2026 at 2 PM in the Art Department for a talk by Philadelphia artist Cavin Jones. \nCavin Jones is a painter\, muralist\, and collagist whose figurative work is inspired by American history\, particularly the African American experience. Jones has said that his work is “a catalyst to stimulate thought and promote discussion about various issues prevalent in society.” His dynamic compositions often feature contrasting elements that as he says\, “infuse the paintings with layers of meaning and associations.” \nCavin will talk about his art journey\, including his public mural work. After the talk in the Art Department\, we’ll visit the Print and Picture Collection to view the original drawings for Cavin’s reimagined Alice in Wonderland. Cavin will have copies of his books available for purchase.

Groups of 6 will enter the installation\, at 15-minute timed entry intervals. An opportunity to ride a Surrey bike is offered but not required.

SUMMARY:Diane Burko: Extraction\, Dialogue of Extremes
DESCRIPTION:August 24 – October 17\, 2026\nRUMOCA at 301 High Street\nIntersections of Art and Science: Communication and Collaboration\nSeptember 16th\, 4:00 – 5:00 PM with reception to follow \nIn collaboration with the Arctic Radium Isotope Observing Network (ARION) research project led by Rowan Associate Professor Dr. Lauren E. Kipp\, with Dr. Matt Charette and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution\, Diane Burko: Extraction\, A Dialogue of Extremes is the community engagement component of the National Science Foundation grant that has funded the research. \nPulling from scientific drawings and maps provided by the research team\, artist Diane Burko has depicted in her paintings the chemical changes and flow of elements recorded in the Arctic. Rendered as markings and data-like graphs\, these flows circulate within and around recurring spherical forms that anchor the paintings. The compositions feel distant and restrained\, their cool detachment echoing the region’s vast isolation\, yet they remain quietly captivating\, amplifying the Arctic’s environmental extremities. \nIn contrast\, a second body of work responds to the corporate mining industry and deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. Here\, the sphere reappears\, interchanging perspectives by encasing sites of extraction\, or amplifying the indigenous areas that have been impacted. Fragments of charred bark protrude from the surface of these paintings\, focusing attention on these locations as if viewed under a microscope. Unlike the Arctic works\, these paintings are intimate but foreboding and unavoidably dominant.

DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Friday\, July 24\, 4 – 6:30 PM \nThis exhibit brings together the work of artists Jihan Thomas\, Efi Green\, and Linda Fernandez in an exhibition exploring healing\, identity\, and self-possession through deeply personal visual language. Across painting\, mixed media\, abstraction\, and symbolism\, the artists transform experiences of grief\, motherhood\, migration\, mental health\, and cultural memory into spaces of reflection and resilience. Rooted in vivid color\, expressive gesture\, and layered storytelling\, Possession considers home not only as a physical place\, but as something carried within the body\, memory\, and spirit. SUMMARY:20/20 Opening Night with InLiquid
DESCRIPTION:Programming partners InLiquid and TILT present exhibits on our opening night party at the Crane Arts Building while also celebrating Second Thursday\, a monthly event where galleries and artist studios open their doors to the public for an evening of celebrating art. \n​InLiquid No Other Place to Go featuring Anita Allyn\, Richard Boutwell\, Laura Krasnow\, Kaitlin Pomerantz\, and Emma Ressel curated by Katie Tackman \n​No Other Place to Go considers how photography reflects the psychological weight of climate change\, shaped by collective anxiety\, grief\, and uncertainty. The featured work exemplifies photography’s capacity to show what is happening in a world undergoing rapid climatic and ecological change. These images affirm that evidence and emotion are not opposing forces\, but complementary forms of knowledge—together shaping how environmental realities are seen\, remembered\, and acted upon. \n​TILT Institute for Contemporary Image Eco-Social Realism: Historic Mural Activations \n​Mural Arts Philadelphia and TILT present Eco-Social Realism: Historic Mural Activations. The exhibition takes as its starting point four murals within the larger neighborhood around TILT that were produced in the early years of Mural Arts Philadelphia. Those murals include: Forest Green (1996) by Ras Malik\, Cinema Verde (1998) by Dennis Haugh\, Tropical Landscape (1999) by Diane Keller\, and Tropical Landscape with Waterfall (2000) by Ana Uribe. As with many murals of that time period\, these four engaged in the representation of pastoral and garden scenes\, often mixing fantasy with landscapes familiar to both nearby Pennsylvania and the Caribbean\, where many neighbors originally migrated from.
