The door is unmarked\, and there is a black wedge ramp at the entrance.\nThe area is partly shady with ample tree coverage and open canopy areas.\nParking: Parking is available along the paved roads throughout the cemetery and near the Meadow.\nPublic Transportation: The Woodlands is directly across the street from the 40th Street Trolley Portal serving the T2\, T3\, T4\, T5 trolleys and Route 30 bus.\nWeather: If it is actively raining or snowing\, we will postpone or cancel the event. DESCRIPTION:The Strawberry Mansion Lake has been here for decades\, let’s see what’s inside! Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic in observing and documenting this aquatic ecosystem as the seasons change. For February 7th\, we are joined by Fairmount Water Works and will take a look at our freshwater mussels that are nursing in the lake. We will learn how to measure them for data\, and conclude with sampling the water to view and identify our microscopic organisms. We’ll also have materials for optional watercolor painting with lake water. RSVP down below to secure your spot. \nThroughout the year\, you can try our rotating activities of exploring microorganisms and macroinvertebrate sampling during warmer weather. This community science data will be collected and utilized for future management. Children ages 8–11 can join Intro to Archery & Wilderness Survival on Thursdays\, Sept 25–Oct 30\, 2025\, from 4–6 PM\, where they’ll learn the basics of archery\, try their hand at carving\, cook over a campfire\, and practice core survival skills like foraging\, knot-tying\, shelter-building\, and first aid. For older adventurers ages 11–15\, the Intermediate Wilderness Survival program runs Tuesdays\, Sept 23–Oct 28\, 2025\, from 4–6 PM\, taking things to the next level with advanced archery drills\, tool carving\, matchless fire-starting\, cooking\, and more complex survival challenges. Both 6-week sessions meet at AdventureWoods\, 6060 Ardleigh St.\, and cost $150 ($140 for Member Families)\, with space limited to 16 participants per group.
