Volunteer Shell Bagging Event-June 17th-Delaware

June 17 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Help PDE bag oyster shells so that they can used in restoration projects and support clean waters!

PDE has been collecting oyster shell from Wilmington area restaurants since early 2016. Generally, spent oyster shells go to landfills, but with our recycling program, shells are going back to the bay! Oyster shells are important for baby oysters and the entire aquatic ecosystem. Juvenile oysters need hard structures to attach to…which in turn leads to more oysters! We need to put our recycled oyster shells into bags so that they are easier to transport and easier to use on restoration projects.

Who: Anyone age 12 or over! (Children under 18 need parental consent prior to participating, and those under 16 would need a parent present during the event)

What:  Putting oyster shells into bags. It is time consuming, so we need volunteers like you! It is also a little messy and a bit physical, so be prepared!

When: Saturday, June 17th, 9:30am-1:00pm

Where: North Church St., Wilmington, DE (exact address to follow after registration).

What to Bring: Weather dependent clothing, close toed shoes, gloves (if don’t have your own, we’ll have some available), water, and snacks (if you’d like)! We will have extra water and light snacks available.

Please contact us if you have any questions. sbouboulis@delawareestuary.org
