Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Bennett Compost (5650 Rising Sun Ave)
June 27 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
You are invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at Bennett Compost, 5650 Rising Sun Avenue on Tuesday, June 27th from 11am-12:30pm.
You are invited to attend our special ribbon cutting ceremony marking the official opening of Philadelphia’s first municipal food composting facility at 5650 Rising Sun Avenue, operated by Philadelphia Parks and Recreation in partnership with Bennett Compost.
This initiative was made possible by working with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to create this first-of-its-kind permit for small/mid-scale compost facilities. This permit allowed PPR to form a public-private partnership with Bennett Compost (Bennett), a local business in Philadelphia, who now collects food waste from PPR Rec Centers and City residents and is operating a food-waste composting facility on parkland. The project received funding from the USDA for staff to manage the program, and the EPA for site improvement infrastructure. To date Bennett Compost has collected over 11 tons of food waste from PPR Rec Centers and is also delivering compost to local farms and gardens that are part of PPR’s community garden network.
We would be honored to have you join this event and participate in the ceremonial cutting of a ribbon to kick start this new and exciting operation.
